Sorry I didnt' read completely the question. The attack shows that if you use a random well known password that exists in the dictionary, someone would be able to crack the wifi password. It's not useless. There are different types of attacks on wifi. More to come...

hey man, how are you? I'm using this Kali VM in which i'm trying to use Fern. This thing needs to be held the WiFi interface, but it's being controlled by the host. Do you know by any chance if it can be used too by the VM like it was theirs? Cheers

Go to Kali VM Options > Removable Devices > Select the WiFi adapter > Connect (Disconnect From Host)

Use VMware workstation instead. I had issues on VMware, then I installed vbox and it was working without problems on vbox, then I went back on vmware and it worked 🤷🏾‍♂️. Trial and error

Change between virtual box and vmware player or vmware workstation. Probably compatibility issues. At the end a reboot might be required on your host...
