Nice video, as ever, Nick. I did spot the shiny new anchor on a previous video and I believe someone else spotted the watch. All very good upgrades and I am so glad that you mentioned and enforced the requirement for the Carbon Monoxide alarms, VERY IMPORTANT. The davits are a top buy.
You can get a combo Smoke & CO2 Alarm detector that is both electrical & battery backup that will speak to you & let you know what triggered it or when the battery needs replacing. They are 10 year lifecycle. These boat upgrades are great & one hopes you will never need most of the safety ones but the insurances they give your Type A personality gives you much peace of mind. Good job Nick 👍🇨🇦🙏
All very useful and worthwhile upgrades but I do like the tender system, simple non-fussy & practical and the best part, the electronic aspect of it will never let you down! Thanks for the Yacht Club membership, Stay Safe & Keep Reporting!!
One would never guess that you are a boat geek. I love your pride of ownership. Each of the upgrades is smart and practical. I am particularly impressed by the new anchor and by the tender system. May you and your bride have many more years of enjoyment on the water.
I love how you have made this boat your own, the upgrades are considered and are so much based in experience of what makes sense to improve the usability of a boat. Keep up the fantastic tours and please let us continue to enjoy the improvements Smugglers Blues 2 undergoes.
Can I suggest adding another larger bilge pump about 12” above current pump. It is usually called a flood pump. The normal position of a bilge pump means they can get clogged with bilge scum, cable ties, etc. Flood pump is clear of this debris and for use in serious flooding.
Fantastic information. Safety 1st, always. I am a journalholic and prefer things written rather than on the phone. I would have a list of everything on the vessel which has an expiration date to it, because in case the power goes out, there is a back-up. And the journal does not need a battery, or a charge to see it! Call it old school, but it works. Glad to see that you have made these modifications - and upgrades to Smuggler's. I especially like the tender and the way that you have fitted it on the aft section. Very well done. The anchor looks terrific and has a great way to be tucked almost away when not in use. I would keep a list of the checks that need to be done before departure - especially the carbon warning box and the fire extinguishers. You are doing your viewers such a great service. Thank you so much! 🤗 🍷
Some nice upgrades Nick 👌🏻 Just sold my motorboat, on the survey the surveyor picked up on the swivel attached to the anchor, what he said was ‘MCA recommends that these swivels shouldn’t be attached directly to the anchor, there should be a couple of links of chain in between’ When I queried this with the surveyor, he said if the boat changes direction whilst anchored the chain doesn’t have full movement and could potentially pull out and cause the boat to drag the anchor, When I asked numerous chandeliers they were all stumped as to why the surveyor would say that, as the manufacturers of said anchors say they are fine to use with swivel direct to the anchor, The surveyor also mentioned that my 12kg anchor wasn’t heavy enough for a 24ft motorboat, quoting the ‘MCA’ again 🙈 Obviously my purchaser didn’t know boats and took the surveyors word as gospel,
Excellent video. No wasted time, you are prepared, you have great dexterity which is entertaining, you know your topic and your enthusiasm for boats and boating is infectious,.
Thanks so much Nick. S.B. is has been so well taken care of it almost looks new. I particularly liked the new dingy contraption and the new (blue) canopy! Enjoy the summer!
We used to put an old tire over the posts holding our peer up and nail pieces of old tire to the edges where boat docks. Your customized guards with Aqaholic logo look much more professional. 😀 🛥
A friend watches you for the watches you wear. Which watch, I've wondered aloud - the watch he's wearing. Well. Wonderful upgrades - Cool Epirb. The anchor is SUE WHEAT - especially that flip around trick. Dingy mounts - all so cool. Thanks so much for sharing.
There's a very happy chapie loving all the new bits and well werth the wait for the video now you just have to both make time to enjoy them speaking of which the weather down there this weekend is serpose to be very hot looking forward to more you/marianne/smugglers videos
There is no end in improving the boat and her equpiment. The trap must to say, but... Desired , expected.and approved. I really appreciate the solution for a rib or dinghy for such a small boat. So simple and so effective. BTW, there were not any socks themselves. It makes me sad and confused. :)
14:00 and 15:00 absolutely the best kit !!!! All others are convenient, lovely, and of course helpful. These units have literally saved us ( and hundreds of others I'm sure ) " Don't leave the dock without it ". Thank you Nick for a Smuggler's update, she's the best on your channel!
Great advice. Boats and rvs need to have a carbon monoxide alarm. I personally know some people who almost had a tragedy on an rv because of an exhaust leak. People don't realize how dangerous it is and you will never realize it is happening without that device. Thanks Nick
Hi Nick. Thank you for the info. I can attest to the fact that my wife and I had our lives saved by the very type of Carbon Monoxide alarm you demonstrate in your review. Our central heating boiler had a baffle that became dislodged in some cold weather last February causing CO emissions to leak into our house. You cannot smell this gas but the alarm sounded and once alerted I rang the power company who came over in 15 minutes and condemned our system shutting it down and surrounding the now defunct gas boiler with black and yellow tape. The technician said he had never seen such a high reading - we are lucky to be alive thanks to the alarm unit!
Great Video Nick, I use Fire Angel in my houses, the remote monitoring of them is very useful for when I'm away from home gives great peace of mind, that and the CCTV monitoring over the 'tinternet lets me keep an eye as to what's happening and that the gardener did actually cut the grass when he said he did ;)
Davits are great for tender storage. May I suggest you look at a Stainless staple for your tender to lean against and tie too. It serves to keep the duckboard clear, whilst being a handy rail when not holding the tender. Some add bbqs or outboard brackets etc too. We love ours, it also helps us to climb out the water after swim. Good sturdy rail.
Great entertainment... It makes me feel very lucky as a relative novice boater as my 1989 Fjord Touring 930 that I bought last year had had several of the same updates that you too have made, already. What a fine hobby we have chosen.....
Aloha; well done sir! We enjoyed your upgrades and the show-and-tell you shared with us all. We also encourage you to do more of these (upgrades) - your vessel and others who'd be willing to "share." It's extremely helpful for us not-so-boat owners to keep up on what's new - not only in boats and yachts - but also the little gadgets and services that, as you said so eloquently, keep us safe and life aboard more pleasurable. Now to that galley upgrade! 🤣Mahalo nui loa.
Looking good there. Very tidy. Thought, if you mount tender other way around, ie bottom inwards, then it will create far less wind pocket effect and air draught when under way. The floor seams will also get less stressed. 🎉
To be honest, the wind resistance is negligible compared to water resistance - water is 800 times denser than air. Bear in mind we cruise at about 20 knots (about 22mph) so it's not like a car on a motorway at 70.
@@AQUAHOLIC sure but one large wave around the transom could easily scoop into the tender. Btw I also keep a boat at Noss and am an ex trawlerman, so understand wind and wave power. Plenty of tenders get ripped off davits when they fill at sea. Fine for pottering tho….we lost a pram dinghy on passage to Guernsey in a similar way many years back.
Hi Nick, I have a 1990 Fairline and like to keep it as up to date as I can. Swapped out the Bennet Auto Tabs for Zipwake Interceptors last year. Has changed the boat and improved fuel consumption. I can highly recommend. This year have changed to Hydrive Fully Hydraulic Steering.
Thoughtful and excellent upgrades Signore Aquaholico! I got a kick out of your branded dock bumpers. That anchor is high art and an exercise in form following function. It also looks like something Predator was gonna whack Ahnold with. Which is rad. The tender stowage is perfect. And the safety stuff. I think the pure safety related upgrades to any conveyance are sooo satisfying huh? Perhaps second only to go faster and go better upgrades. Thanks for the tour and all the excellent tech info. Brilliant video of your boat Nick but the most i was impressed by was to be honest was the Anchor don’t know why but it just fascinated me, but the rest of your upgrades were also amazing Cheers Nick 👍👍👍

Great video Nick, nice to see how much you care about your boat and the people aboard. I like the app, love this kind of thing I would get one if only I had a boat. I have smoke alarms on all 3 floors of my house wired into the mains with battery back up and carbon monoxide alarms as well, you cant be to safe. Thank you for the tour.
