CORRECTION: At one point in the video, I accidentally reversed the descriptions of the A and K indices. This was unintentional and due to being a little nervous. Apologies for any confusion.

Ham radio seems pretty important now with what we see going on in the Ukraine. Last line of communication. Great channel Tim

You're exactly right. When the Internet and the grid fail, ham radio always works. Glad you liked it. :)

Very interesting things being discussed here. I knew about them.. so I thought. And now I learned more about them. Thanks for sharing this information.

Interesting stuff and good presentation. I got my technician license last year but have yet to do anything real with it.

There's a lot for you to do as a technician. I've been working satellites on VHF and UHF quite a bit, including the International Space Station. That's all within your license. You'll have fun if you ever decide to dig in. Cheers!

Awesome Tim. Funnily enough, I just watched a doco last night on the sun and observatories in Australia.
A question: When there is a CME (or even large solar storms), our computers etc get bombarded with the energised particles (protons?) which can cause errors... enough errors and you get a computer crash. But can they do permanent damage to a computer chip? I assume there would have to be enough power to not just short the chip circuits, but to burn out or fuse the circuits.

That's an excellent question I don't know than answer to. But I do know that severe storms can destroy power transformers and sub-stations, so it does seem plausible with regard to certain computer components, depending on how they are used and where they are located.

25% or greater chance of a killshot in the next few years.
In 20 to 30 ish years, the sun will micronava. That is the 12,000 year cycle great reset.
That is the only thing that explains the glass beads on earth, the moon and Mars. That is the only explanation for certain isotopes found on earth. Boom 💥
That is carved into rock throughout the world. Pictures of the sun going off carved on every continent.
    Awesome presentation Tim!
    🌟👍
