Sean Connery: Fame, James Bond, and Controversy

  • Sean Connery rose to fame in the 1960s portraying a British secret agent. He became part of that decade’s British Invasion, which saw music, films, television programming, and fashion from the United Kingdom overwhelm cultures in Europe and North America. Yet throughout his long life, Connery recoiled at being called British. He was, loudly and proudly, a son of Scotland. He called himself a Scot and wore a clan’s kilt when he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.
Connery was not the first choice to play James Bond on film, and the fictional agent’s creator, Ian Fleming, openly disapproved of his casting. Yet Connery’s acting talents were such that he not only won over Fleming, but the writer added portions of Sean’s performance in new stories, including his Scottish background. Connery eventually tired of the role and branched out significantly, yet he remains the standard against which subsequent portrayers of Bond are measured.
In his long career, he worked with distinguished directors including John Huston, Sidney Lumet, and Alfred Hitchcock. He starred opposite notable actresses including Tippi Hedren, Lana Turner, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Candace Bergen, and Gina Lollabrigida, to name just a few. It was his Bond that introduced the bevy of actresses known to fans and film buffs as “Bond girls”. His film career covered more than 50 years and led to international acclaim. Yet, he is forever linked with the persona he created when he first uttered, “Bond…James Bond”.

Anytime, Daniel Craig is my top bond these days due to his film output being higher tier. Daniel Craig’s Casino Royal, Skyfall, & No Time To Die all are fantastic. Sean Connery had Goldfinger, From Russia With Love that both were among the best films. Anyways, Enjoyed the video keep up the good work and nice suit.

Whenever my mother heard about Sean Connery, she was always hyped and joyful. That guy has a high influence on women, for sure.

Well if you look at physical types like Sean, they all lose their hair earlier. But what is hair when you have a gentlemen like that.
    And you look dashing…

Piers Brosnan the only bond capable of pulling that caliber of women….someone has no idea what women want. Connery is a stud, hubba hubba, he’s a manly man, reow. Piers is a posh Ken doll.

Nothing against you, but like if there's one channel I'd prefer Simon narrate, it's biographics and geographics. Can take or leave the others.

If you watch old hollywood movies people are slapping around women all the time - thankfully they stopped depicting that kind of thing at some point but Connery's attitudes would have been formed at least in part by the casual and alarmingly common trope of someone "slapping some sense into a hysterical woman" which he would have seen over and over again in the movies he grew up watching.

well, women often do not act straight. Him slapping Jill St John in Diamonds are Forever is hilarious.

Can you please do more historical figures?
Maybe do different takes on some of Simon’s earliest episode like Stalin or Alexander the Great.
This is just my opinion, I think you’re doing a good job with big shoes to fill.
Just my opinion, keep up the good work.

There are plenty of historical figures. They can do plenty of monarchs from Eastern Europe. They can do Chinese emperors, Korean monarchs, Vietnamese monarchs, etc.. This could go on for decades. Now, some Biographics videos could be outdated. The one With Elon Musk for example. Pretty much anyone that was alive when the video was made could be remade with new information.
