Hello, hello Arianna and Maple!! This timing couldn't be better at all.. Truth, I just saw y'all's LOTR trilogy vids a few hours ago in order, consecutively.. l.o.l. They were phenomenal.. I hadn't seen clippings of the original films in year(s).. As a millennial, it's great to have a chance to experience these movie stories from a new perspective with y'all.. I have this HP 1st added to my calendar & soo looking forward to joining y'all t.o.d.a.y.!! Cheers 🥂
Arianna - since you said you've seen and read all of the Harry Potter materials, may I suggest a Harry Potter book you likely haven't read? "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality". It is a so-called 'fan fic'. But don't let that fool you. It is a very professionally written novel that re-imagines the story if Harry had been raised by loving step parents, one of whom was a scientist. It is a funny and touching and imaginative story that includes many of the same beats/characters as the original stories - but, especially when one is so thoroughly immersed in the HP lore as it seems you are (what with the Deathly Hallows tattoo and all), is an enriching and amazing story (especially after you get through the first few chapters - which are still good but the author was still finding his feet as it were, since this was written the same way 'The Martian' was written: as a chapter-at-a-time internet release). It is a much loved book by many in the HP fanbase and I actually feel it is better in many respects to the original. I think you may enjoy it.
Yep. Milk has been a staple part of the human diet since thousands of years before Jesus walked the earth. And people started thinking it was abnormal like 2 years ago 🤦♂️🤦♂️
The scriptwriter's favorite character from the books was Hermione. As such, he gave her a lot of Ron's lines. In the book, Ron served as the source of lore (since unlike Harry and Hermione, he grew up in the wizarding world). Unfortunately, this made Ron look like a dumbass. For example, it was Ron who gave the others the way out of the Devil's Snare plant trap. In the books at least.
To this day, I still find it nuts that they replaced the original term 'philosopher's stone' for 'sorceror's stone' in all the US book and movie releases, even recording the different versions of movie dialogue both with and without the change.
"American children wont wanna read it. It doesn't sound magical enough" Yeah I guess that makes a little sense.... But the Philosophers Stone is a REAL thing (Well in historical mythology it was) Like Nicolas Flamel was a real Alchemist in the 14 century who tried to turn lead into gold and create the elixir of Life, that wasn't created for the HP series, he ACTUALLY existed. Why change the name since it technically existed in the mythos??
The train station scene was filmed at King's Cross station in London. The film gained so much popularity that they kept the sign for 9¾ between platform 9 and 10. The station later had a reconstruction so unfortunately the original platform is no longer there but they did add a photo wall and a shop to replace it's honour.
On top of what Arianna said about family owls, the school also has a bunch of owls students can borrow, and people can pay to rent an owl at a post office.
In hindsight it´s honestly amazing that all three in the main trio grew up in a massive production like Harry Potter and all three came out of it as well adjusted people and 2/3 with a good career post HP (though Grint seems to have a bit of a tax dodging thing going on) Oh and RIP Dame Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman, you absolute legends
Yeah I'm shocked too, not just the main trio but managing to keep all the kids (Malfoy, Neville, Dean, Seamus, the twins, Ginny) on track to do 10 years worth of movies (no recasting), it's pretty freaking amazing. I remember in the anniversary movie Emma confessed how at one point she didn't want to return as Hermione because of just how big it got and how famous she became at such a young age.
Seeing the Snape scene when he's humbling Harry in class regarding his new found celebrity status was actually quite emotional to watch when you're in the know of the whole story. I haven't seen the first film in so long.
5:40 In the novel, this is just a rickety shack on a rock out in the ocean (but probably not too far out) called hut-on-the-rock. For the film, I think they were trying to evoke a lonely lighthouse feel.
Every time I see this movie I realize more and more how fucking good Richard Harris was. I liked Michael Gambon better but you can’t deny how good Harris was. These movies hurt to watch now - half of the cast has passed away at this point.
9:35 You ladies definitely need to go to Wizarding Wold of Harry Potter here in Florida. I’ve been a couple times and it’s an absolute blast. Expensive, potentially, once you get there and see everything but it’s absolutely awesome. Best time to go is early in the year, sometime between the new year and spring break when the weather is nice. You could even film it and have a meet up or some thing, make a really cool video out of it.
I went to Harry Potter world in Orlando with my sister. She was like 37 at the time and I was 33. lol. My only regret is I was totally broke so I couldn’t drink like 150 butter beers like I wanted to or buy any souvenirs. The gringotts ride was cool.
Something fun about Harry Potter that people might not know is how terrible an idea the house system is. Putting all the ambitious, cunning leader types in one house. Putting all the gung-ho justice and adventure thrill-seekers who won't think before they act in another is also a bad idea. Similarly walling off the potentially-reclusive bookworms together and keeping the loyal/supportive/hardworking types with a well-developed sense of fairness away from interacting with the other more dominant personality types are also bad choices. The houses are a way of taking your most dominant traits and putting you in an echo chamber where they will become more dominant. And I'm sure JK knew that and found it interesting. But then there's something about our main trio of Harry, Hermoine and Ron. Despite all being in the justice-seeker category, and at least partly belonging in Gryffindor as a result, they each exhibit some of the better traits of the other houses, which balances them and makes them effective. Of course, none of them fit entirely into any one additional house, especially Ron, who might have some Slytherin in him as well. I mean, he's got dreams of being head boy and holding the house cup and what have you when he looks in the mirror after all. Harry - Natural leader, competitive, definitely cunning, will to succeed. - Slytherin traits. The sorting hat even remarks on it. Hermoine - Highly intelligent, pursues knowledge. - She's clearly at least part Ravenclaw. Ron - Loyal, in backing the plans that are normally instigated by his friends, and will normally only go against the consensus if something seems unfair. - Hufflepuff. Hopefully none of that is really a spoiler at this point, you've seen enough about their characters after just the first story in the series for these traits to have been revealed about them I think.
R.I.P to Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, Maggie Smith, and Richard Harris.🙏❤ Watching these films takes me back although I wasn't a Harry Potter kid growing up.
I'll NEVER forgive American publishers for forcing the name switch from Philosopher's Stone to Sorcerers Stone. "American children wont wanna read it. It doesn't sound magical enough" Yeah that makes a little sense.... But the Philosophers Stone is a REAL thing (Well in historical mythology it was) Like Nicolas Flamel was a real Alchemist in the 14 century. Why change the name since it technically existed in the mythos??
I was waiting for your reaction to Voldemort's appearing Now I'm waiting for your reaction to Chamber of Secrets, it will be a lot more fun (for us; you would definitely be freaked out)
Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter. The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione. The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells. (Even though she froze up out of fear in the book and had to be reminded that she was a witch by Ron) The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch. And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess. Side notes: The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits: Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry. Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit. Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness. Erised (The Mirror of Erised) is the word desire spelled backward. Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have ruffled wing feathers to silence their flight so prey animals don't hear them coming. They also have natural camouflage due to their coloration, and they're the only birds of prey who don't have bare feet due to their habitats, like the Arctic Tundra. At the time of the deaths of Lily and James Potter at the hands of Voldemort, Harry was only 15 months old.
How far in did you get before having to explain why the movie has 2 titles? lol, they changed the title because apparently test US audiences didn't understand what a "Philosopher" is ?!
Correction: They changed the titled because US children didn't associate the word "philosopher" with "magic user" since a philosopher in America is someone who studies philosophy (e.g. Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Kant). Meanwhile sorcerer in America means powerful magic user/wizard.
Oh wow, that must be the first reaction to the films that I seriously didn‘t like. Only got halfway through it. On the other hand, you two might just be the perfect fans for this franchise. You unerringly missed most of the points and beats and you didn‘t care for any of the bad storytelling, but nonetheless you are fully committed to the consumerism part. So, remember for your studio tour that you are not a real fan unless you have all of the merch!
I am highly enamoured of the names Rowling used, especially the double referent of brightest witch of our age. Hermione is a form of Hermes, god of knowledge, books, magick, etc. Hermione Granger reduces to the initials HG, which abbreviation on the periodic table refers to Mercury, the Roman form of Hermes.
How far in did you get before having to explain why the movie has 2 titles? lol, they changed the title because apparently test US audiences didn't understand what a "Philosopher" is ?!
No, it was the book that had the title changed. It was the publisher who thought Philosopher was too obscure a term in the US. Changing it to Sorcerer doesn't make any sense because Nicholas Flamel was actually a real person, and he was an alchemist/philosopher. The filmmakers were simply keeping the US book title. It had nothing to do with test audiences. They also shot some scenes twice to change some words to the US equivalents (Cupboard under the stairs became Closet under the stairs, for example).

Any thoughts on Roy Kent from Ted Lasso being cast as Hagrid for the HBO TV Series adaptation?
Cannot wait for you to watch the third one :) So happy you are watching these. Much love from the UK! x

Makes me teary eyed to see all the wonderful actors that aren't with us anymore.
Maple, you’re killing me, the milk slander has to stop.
Nothing like glugging cold milk right out of the carton.
was genuinely drinking a glass of milk after eating a dessert right when she said it xD

Yeah the movies did Ron dirty throughout the series, imo.

1:00:45 so Harry straight up killed somebody 😂
Bro got his 1st body at 11 years old
Straight up G.
Harry didn't even need the wand, he did it with his bare hands. Ice cold
Not what happens in the book.
Pretty sure we're watching the movie right now, not the books@@bluetone-amv
When Draco had to kill a teacher he was crying about it... Harry straight went for the headshot!

I bet having a safe set, and plenty of hugely positive role models there helped a ton.
Radcliffe used to be an alcoholic while the series was still in production. Luckily, he got some help before it got too bad.
Seeing the Snape scene when he's humbling Harry in class regarding his new found celebrity status was actually quite emotional to watch when you're in the know of the whole story. I haven't seen the first film in so long.

Maple: He literally looks like Gandalf
Me: He kind of looks like a former Roman Emperor 😉
When Harry is looking at his dad's quidditch award, another name on the award is M Mcgonigle. She was a quidditch jock herself.
Y’all watching Harry Potter and Better Call Saul at the same time?!?! Let’s gooooooo!!!!
The Wizarding world in universal is awesome. The gringotts ride is the coolest ride
I literally just commented that you guys should watch harry potter when you guys wrapped up lord of the rings! Thanks for the Christmas present!
🤚 I indeed had a Harry Potter Wedding 😂
Been waiting for this franchise reaction for a while, excited its finally here!

Maple are you going to do the sorting quiz, to find out what house you are in and the quiz to see what your Patronus would be?
Awesome reaction of my favorite Harry Potter movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
R.I.P to Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, Maggie Smith, and Richard Harris.🙏❤ Watching these films takes me back although I wasn't a Harry Potter kid growing up.
And Gambon.
you actually do have to believe you won’t crash into the wall or you will it’s mentioned in the books
‘That’s the native in us’ is so real 😂 iykyk
I’m Hufflepuff, with a Manx cat as my patronus, with a wand of vine wood, dragon core, 12.5 inches, and slightly yielding! Whatever that means lol

this will be a fantastic jorney with u girls !!!
OH!!! Do we get a Harry Potter road trip ? 😊😁

The 'sorcerer's stone' is such a horrible movie title, the English/European 'Philosopher's Stone' is so much better.
Can u guys please please react to Don't look up it's highly underrated and yall would love the story especially after how the recent election went 💯👌🏾

Has Ariana suddenly gotten prettier?
How have neither of you seen these films?
Arianna has and she's gonna be Maple's spirit guide lol
