The Romantic Road (Romantische Straße) in western Bavaria is best known and most popular of Germany's holiday routes. The top sights include the fantasy, neo-Romanesque Schloss Neuschwanstein castle, and wall-enclosed medieval town Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

I recently hiked most of this road, though I split from it in Augsburg and headed towards Garmisch-P instead. It really is an experience to walk these historic cities! Ochsenfurt if not officially on the Romantic road but could also be worth a stop.
