Thanks so much for explaining this for us beginners!! I’ll make sure to come back and let you know how it goes!! I pray that my project turns out as yours did!! ❤️❤️
Great video. Tutorial was super easy to watch and take notes. At the end I was able to make my first sublimation shirt using free design from design bundles!!! Thanks for sharing.
I'm using 100% polyester (light grey t-shirt), with a black design (it's my first attempt). I printed my design using almost the exact same printer you used in this demo, the same paper setting and mirrored the image. The print came out really well. I then set the press up to 400°F, and set the timer for 45 seconds. I kept the press pillow under the shirt, and placed paper inside the shirt to prevent the dye from printing to the back of the shirt, and then placed paper on top of the sublimation paper before pressing. After 45 seconds nothing printed. I tried 3 times (printing a fresh design 3 times) and each time all I ended up with was a warm and blank t-shirt.
Hmm, that’s really strange! Did you use sublimation paper? 45 seconds is a little bit short, but you should have seen something transfer at that time in most cases.
Alex thank you for supporting the community with this tut, I wonder if you have anything on vinyl stand you have on your background ? Seems to be very useful and looks great.
Hi alex! Love seeing your simple yet thorough tutorial ^^ just one question, if our design is already in PNG file, are we not required to use cricut/cameo machine to make sure it works? I’m a little bit confused with other people’s tutorial where they use cricut. I hope you get what I actually meant, thank you! 😊❤
You can use Cricut Design Space for print then cut (on a sublimation printer), but it’s not necessary. Plus you would need to remove the registration marks so they don’t sublimate onto your design. So I find it best just to print it without Design Space.
Hi, great video, what paper can I use other than butcher paper, cannot find white in England here, it's all from USA on Amazon and about £90 shipping, we have peach colour, would that work ?
Hi there! I would not use any paper with color so it doesn't transfer to your design. I would give baking paper a try as long as it doesn't have wax on it. We call it parchment paper here in the states.
I see you have owned this heat press for two years. Would you recommend? Im a beginner but want to make a bunch of shirts or sublimation. Please reply i am trying to do my research on which I should get.. im saving up
Yes! I love this heat press! I've never had a single issue with it. I highly recommend it. If you buy it at 143VINYL, you can save 5% with my code ALEX5!
Normal inkjet ink will not adhere to polyester coated surfaces and survive being washed/ handled. It has to be sublimation ink in order for the shirt to be washed and hold up over time.
I have learned sooo much from you… has me really excited! Got some more items to buy but little by little imma get there… I’ve definitely learned about sublimation that I didn’t know existed 😅… #BeginnerCrafter
You need to adjust your colors in printer settings before printing to see if that helps. There are a lot of factors that can effect colors on a sublimation printer.
Thanks you just helped me make my first shirt. It could have been bolder. But I can now make shirts🎉
Making your first shirt is a huge deal! You should be SO proud of yourself! You can always make improvements as you go!

I like your rainbow light, where did you get it?
Thanks! It’s from Target

My husband built the vinyl holder and we have a tutorial on how to make one! Search DIY Alex vinyl holder and you’ll find it!
Thanks! I’m anxious to try sublimation!!!!
It’s so much fun!!
just what I needed. video is awesome! thank you!!
Glad it helped! Thank you so much!! - Lindsay
Very very helpful thank you ❤
I'm a new subscriber. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for this tutorial 💕 💖
on options of paper type doesnt give me premium option is plain paper a good option?
Plain paper is fine too! Experiment with what works best for your printer.
Great video best one I’ve seen

@@DIYAlex Now I got it. Thank you Alex!
Can you use the cricut easy press when you do sublimation on T-shirt’s
Yes you can! Just be sure to use an easy press mat underneath the press to protect your surface.

Thanks a bunch! & great video!

Another great video, thank you!
Looking at your link for Jiffy shirts. Can any color be used for sublimation or only white?
They have to be white or very light colored. Light gray works really well. Remember that it has to have at least 65% polyester to sublimate.
Does the ink fade when washed? I have seen some sites that use a spray adhesive on the shirts first!
The spray adhesive will wash out so I do not recommend it. If you sublimate on polyester then it won’t fade!
Great video! I’m new to sublimation and I’m trying to learn all the things….why do you have the Teflon on the printer? TIA
There isn’t any Teflon on the printer. Have you watched my sublimation series? You can find it under playlists!
How did you get the vinyl roll holder fastened to the wall for vinyl storage.
My husband built my vinyl holder! You can see a tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/KYAa8QCwI-c/видео.html
Thanks for sharing! This video is awesome!!
Thank you!
Alex watch and now I need to know more, why can’t we use just normal ink to do this? Is there any way to supplement with regular ink in printer?
Normal inkjet ink will not adhere to polyester coated surfaces and survive being washed/ handled. It has to be sublimation ink in order for the shirt to be washed and hold up over time.
I know this video is a year old, and now I have seen newer vids where they say 400 degrees is too high. What do you think of this? Maybe 385?
400 works great for me so I’m not sure why that would be an issue!
What are you using to keep the Teflon sheet adhered to the top of your press?
It looks like magnets - round ones. You can get fairly strong ones at the craft store or on amazon.
Yes, I use magnets! It makes things so much easier!
You said you used a Cricut infusable ink blank? I didn’t see that or did I miss something?
Yes, the shirt is Cricut brand. It's made for their infusible ink, but it works great with sublimation also.
This is my first time would’ve they don’t come off onto your Shirt
Beautiful 💙
Can you do a video for doing all this on a Mac?
I don’t have a Mac. Sorry!
I have learned sooo much from you… has me really excited! Got some more items to buy but little by little imma get there… I’ve definitely learned about sublimation that I didn’t know existed 😅… #BeginnerCrafter
You are so welcome!
hi dear .What your material t-shirt
I tried it and my design isn’t sticking
Are you using a shirt with at least 65% polyester?
After print the sublimation design, it need to be press it immediately or not?
You do not have to press it immediately, but you don't want it to sit in direct sunlight before it's pressed so keep it covered.
Does the size of heat press matter? 12x15 vs 15x15 vs 16x24 for shirts?
You want the press to be bigger than the size of prints you plan on pressing.
So what size is your design. It looks bigger than 8.5x11
Honestly I'm not sure! I made it as big as I could on my 8.5x11 paper, so it's definitely less than that.
What is on the top of your press?
It’s a Teflon sheet with magnets!
Will this work with an inkjet printer??
No, sublimation ink has to be used in this case.
Can you do an image on your iPhone and edit it and print it from there?
I haven't tried it honestly, but if you edit the image in Canva you probably can.
What's butcher paper? Can I use parchment paper?
Butcher paper works better but parchment paper can work as well.
Hi, do you have to play music on the background? It’s hard to hear you. The volume is louder than you voice. I love love your videos
Thank you for your feedback, and thank you for watching!
What side of the paper goes on top?
on printer
That is going to depend on your printer. So test with regular paper before printing to see which side needs to up.
Still having trouble with getting my sublimation print to transfer to my shirt
Are you using a shirt with at least 50% polyester?
@@DIYAlex yes I am.
My Photos app does not look like yours and the image shows a black background not white
All computers are going to be different, as long as you locate the same settings it doesn’t matter ☺️
My issue is that my skin tone color comes out looking green, gray or yellow
You need to adjust your colors in printer settings before printing to see if that helps. There are a lot of factors that can effect colors on a sublimation printer.
Does the shirt have to be white
It has to be white or light colored.
Could you turn the music down?
Now that it is published I can’t unfortunately.
