Look up the battle of Marathon, it took place around 10 years before this battle, but the Persians had such obsolete weapons and armour that the Greeks only lost 200 soldiers, since their weapons couldn’t penetrate the Greek hoplite armour, while the Persians took thousands of them

actually Leonitus took roughly 7000 men to thermoplaly, but a Greek trator told the Persians of a secret passage the Persians could take to get behind the spartans. When the Spartans found out all but 300 men retreated. The Spartans fought till death. when Leonitus was killed the Spartans defended it desperately, but the Persians killed all 300 Spartans decapitated Leonitus's head and put it on a spear, walked to Athens, and but it to the ground.

no actually King leonidous had 7,000 Greeks but it wasn't too the last day that he released all the other soldiers leaving only his 300 Spartans
SHARK MASTER It wasn't just his 300 soldiers by the end. The Thespians refused to retreat and the Thebans were thought to be turncoats so Leonidas forced them to remain to show they were not and to ensure their military power was smaller if they did join the other city states that surrendered to Persia. There was probably about 1,500 men who remained to sacrifice their lives for the Athenian people and all of Greece.

Styx Hellmouth It’s hard to say who did the most. If not for the Athenians at sea then the battle would have been ended in a day, as the Persians would have flanked the Greeks on land (as they later did) via a sea landing. The Spartans also never fought alone, right up until the end they’re we’re Greeks from otter city states with them who refused to flee when ordered to. At the end they were supposedly fighting with fists and teeth.
But certainly the 300 Spartans characterise the event and the spirit of the battle.

Sirous Mani For all the faults of 300 it definitely captured how the Greeks would have wished to be seen. It fits quite well with Herodotus' writing and the grandeur of the Greeks. Propaganda wise, its very interesting and of course it's entertaining.
Most of these informations are wrong. 1: Darius wasn't the son of cyrus the great and 2: the immortals were infantry it was the sassanians that made the new immortals into a cavalry force

Love the video, I''ll be using it in class as an introduction but a few notes: The Battle of Thermopylae included more than 5000 allied greek soldiers working together, the Spartan 300 force of hoplites was the most elite, but not the only ones there. Most of the forces ended up fleeing when the battle was going poorly most fled (or were ordered to leave) but the 300 Spartans (and 700 Thespians) remained. This aftermath of this battle didn't inspire the alliance since they were allied before the battle.

Wikipedia does a pretty good job. It's actually statistically more accurate than most encyclopedias. It references sources like Herodotus. I'd start there.

Depends what side you were on. If you were Greek the Persians were both evil and inferior and if you were Persian, well the Greeks were not probably seen as 100% evil, but as inferior subordinates. The Persians believed they were the conquerors of the world - but their main reason to conquer was to give law and order to the world.

Then Smerdis came to power, Darius linked then killer Smerdis and made up a story saying that the real Smerdis was dead and that the one on the throne was an imposter (as stated on the darius inscription and Bisitun Inscription). Darius linked himself to the old persian kings (mainly Achaemenes). Darius then went on to marry Atossa (Cyrus' daughter) but was not the son of Cyrus.

Most of western histories about Greco-Persian wars are aligned with the current political situation in the world! Greeks are the father of the west and Persians are the father of all the evil of East (including Islam and tyranny). THEY ARE WRONG.
Persian Empire was run under a federal system, There were many Greeks in Persian Empire and as a matter of fact the Persian Navy in invading Greece composed of mostly Greek people! the Admiral of the fleet was Greek! This was not an ideological war, this was an ancient war for dominance and power. Persians adopted Greek philosophy and architecture in their society and life style (Please take a look at Persepolis ruins as an example), so they didn't want to destroy it! PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE THE HISTORY.
And the spartans do not live in greece they live in australia!!! in fact the persians or greeks as you say were fighting the samurais

Actually, it was about 9000 total soldiers. Including many helots, and other hoplites from other city states. Leonidas told them all to retreat and every Spartan stayed behind to hold off the Persians

Darius was not Cyrus' son. Most historians believe darius wasn't related to cyrus at all (even though Darius claimed to be a fairly distant relative of Cyrus). Cyrus' sons were both dead before Darius took power. The story of Darius' rise to the throne is a fantastic story/mystery that is far less known than it should be....if you're ever looking for a new topic to cover.
