Tim has a variety of unusual books in his library.
Stopping Time: The Photographs of Dr Harold Edgerton shows pictures where motion has been frozen in time! Tim had a brief correspondence with Harold Edgerton about 40 years ago. It took Dr Edgerton, also known as "Papa Flash" many years to perfect the "Milk-Drop Coronet" picture which Tim shows here. Another favourite picture that Tim shows is a bullet being fired through three balloons, so we can see three stages of a balloon bursting, all in one photo!
Next, a book that contains many designs of folding table napkins, and then a book on folding towels. A special kind of origami!
Tim loves novelty umbrellas, and the next book, which comes from Italy, contains a very unusual example - it looks as if the umbrella is inside out, but in fact it is designed for holding over your pet when you take them for a walk. The whole book is a catalogue of luxury items for your pampered pet!
'Skyshades' is a book of tiny whimsical landscapes.
Finally a book from Russia containing all sorts of visual illusions, which also contains an interesting piece of piano sheet music. Tim plays the piano and was intrigued because he could see there was something strange about the music. It turns out it is a well know piece, but has been written backwards!
i love that no matter what's happening in the world, we always have your videos to keep us sane, and i thank you for that
@@PotatoeSnowIrving Finkel is also amazing to listen to, he's on RUclips.
He won't be here forever
@@crelos3549nor will we, or anyone else for that matter. Doesn't diminish the value.
tim seems like a nice guy! best qualitys:
1. Always cheerful!
2. Great videos!
3. Awesome things to show!
4. Water from the Nile
5:25 "Imagine the clouds dripping. Dig a hole in your garden to put them in."
The guy from the first book is the Slow Mo Guys’ grandad 🤯
I love when Tim shows us his books 📚 collections.
The piece at 6:42 is mirrored (maybe rotated is a better word) along the middle such that it stays the same if turned upside down.
This feels like when one of your friends really wants to show you something.
I used to love books like these, my mum had one on cakes and face painting. Books were so important before the internets.
Still are important don't be daft
@@jonpendragon2066 yeah but now I see several novelty cakes a day, it was the only chance for exposure to lots of things
Tim, you make people happy in a strange world ❤
The only museum I want to visit is one for which Tim is the curator.
It's nice to see that Tim is still around despite the obvious passing of Time laving its marks.
I always appreciate Tim’s technical way of describing objects. He makes my vocabulary much better!
I would love to spend a day looking through Tim's book collection. Would be very interesting.
Goedel Escher Bach has some examples of palindromic music. Both forwards and backwards, and flipped vertically.
One time when I was younger I accidentally did a basic stewarding course (don't ask) and one of the things we had to learn before our final 'practical test' was how to do 3 different types of those napkin folding designs. We did the one on the front of the manual (it's actually pretty easy once you get the knack of it), and the flower one from the top right corner of the back of the manual. The other one we did isn't there I don't think. There was actually a lot more to learn than I thought, at first I didn't think you could get 7 full days out of setting up tables and stuff lol.
I always feel comfortable and something familiar every time I watch these videos. No matter where I'm at.
Tim is a Time Lord showing the wonders and novelties of the past and present.
I remember that apple photograph from my old science text books
The first musical score that is shown says "This plays the same upright and inverted upside down". So at least the first one is not supposed to be played backwards (the right side up), but inverted and read as if it was a normal notation. Not sure about the 3/4 one.
I love books like this! Thanks for sharing, and have a great day uncle Tim!
So sweet that Tim songs in a choir
Finally, a channel that only uploads happy, peaceful, and interesting videos
BEST RUclips CHANNEL EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always watch you when taking a dump
Thank you for sharing Tim 🙂
I think lightning is about to strike
Amazing
Awesome
I love Tim but I don't typically find him funny. That last story about the music, though, was hilarious!
Awesome stuff Tim!
I used to watch you when I was little
I still do
I think Tim would enjoy a book of Bev Doolittle's artwork.
Happy Halloween, Tim!
So early, wow
Great video, as always
Oh, Tim! There are better ways to mark your place in a book than using a paperclip. Perhaps you could start a new collection.
Tim's a page-turner
We’re sad to see you go Tim!
Holy what’s happening no wait
What do you mean? He posted a video 1 day ago.
