Usagi Yojimbo is one of the best comic book characters out there imo. I first discovered him through the original TMNT cartoon when I was a kid, but was pleasantly surprised to learn he also has his own comic book as well. Been a fan ever since.
@@MrSwccguy Wait, are you saying he was never in the original 1987 TMNT cartoon? If so, then you are wrong. He most certainly was in that cartoon. I'm not saying that's where the character originally came from, I'm saying that's where I first saw him. Well....actually I think I might have first come across him in toy form as part of the original TMNT toy line and then in the cartoon. But nonetheless, he was In that cartoon.
@@MrSwccguy No problem. If I had a dime for every time I misunderstood someone on the internet then I'd have a fortune large enough to make Elon Musk jelly of me.
For me it was the other way around, I knew Usagi through the comics, and I learned way more later on that he was also part of the Univers of TMNT, and see him through the animated series makes me just love this character even more
Usagi Miyamotto is an excellent character with a huge wealth of fantastic stories! From horror, revenge, humor and adventure...wherever he goes, adventure follows! I'm glad the character is getting popular again; outside of an TMNT guest role!
I had no idea that Netflix made a series about him until I watched this thanks a lot for that I put it on my list while I was finishing this video after I finish this I'm binge watching the hell out of the series lol
Miyamoto Musashi was also an inspirational character in videogames too. Most notably. Haomaru from the "Samurai Showdown" franchise was based on him as well.
I remember the old comic series... my favorite characters were Zato-Inu and the Neko ninjas. There was a lizard in there too that I liked... Zilla? Zylla? Something like that. It was a one off character, I think. But the puns were great. "Are you a God, Zylla?"
@@travisbishop782 yeah that was his pet. The one in taking about was a different one.. I this it was in book 2 of the old TPBs? This was way back in the 90s, I was in middle school when i read them. The lizard breathed fire and cooked a bunch of bandits to save Usagi. I don't think it ever made another appearance.
Mikey - So, do you guys have tails... or what? 🤨 Gennosuke - Hey! Theres no need to get that personal! 😡 Mikey - How come you talk, and wear clothes. But the horses are just... horses?? 😳 Usagi - 🤔😐
I love Usagi Yojimbo character. I knew him ever since his crossover with the TMNT 2003 series. Quick question: Y'all think Space Usagi would be a great crossover with the Star Wars Universe or nah?
My wife is a big fan, I enjoyed it and while working at a chain bookstore before I met her had bought several books, when we moved in together I could not find them. About 5 years now, while cleaning out my mom's I found them and they have a decent amount of shelf space
Loved the comics but that Netflix show leaves me a bit cold.I really thought it was going to be a accurate following of the the comic. That and I thought the animation would be better or different style. And the voice work also had the feel of a bunch of guys in the studio. Then really coming from the characters in the story.
Supposedly the reason Space Usagi didn't get greenlit back in the 90's is because there was another show on another channel about _another_ space-faring anthropomorphic rabbit and his crew of various other anthropomorphic animals, one of which was a cat, Bucky O'Hare. There are rules against too similar of shows or movies coming out around the same time.
I know Samurai Rabbit isn't a fan favorite but I'm guessing the show writers wanted to make something uniquely their own, and I the updated designs for the characters look decent.
A little detail about Jei, what happens if you add the Japanese honorific -san to his name? You get Jei san or Jason, as in Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th.
Ha. You're damn right on that one. Usagi is awesome. I remember having an action figure of him from the original TMNT toy series. Him, Ace Duck, Mondo Gecko, and Rasputin from the Punk Frogs.
I only saw Usagi in the 80s cartoon I didn't know he appeared in other turtle cartoons but I'm not surprised Usagi is a very interesting & unique character it also helps that he's a samurai.

I absolutely love this character. I was inspired by the creator to become an artist myself. 🎨
An incredible character and comic indeed!! Nice to see him pop up in TMNT crossovers as well.
He did
He deserves his own anime
Yep
Awesome character!!!!🐰👍
Never knew he was actually a crossover character with his own solo comic series.
I had no idea that Netflix made a series about him until I watched this thanks a lot for that I put it on my list while I was finishing this video after I finish this I'm binge watching the hell out of the series lol
Netflix made a series about his descendant, it’s not Usagi and the series is called Samurai Rabbit.
Damn shame we NEVER got an actual Miyamoto Usagi spin-off series, he totally deserves either an animated series or feature film series.
Miyamoto Musashi was also an inspirational character in videogames too. Most notably. Haomaru from the "Samurai Showdown" franchise was based on him as well.

Another great character that I loved as a child. Thanks for uploading this
my father had a friend who knew the creator
Once again you take me back to my childhood.
This was such a great explanation of Usagi’s origins! Really well put together
Love Usagi. I have all the comics. I've seen the Netflix cartoon. All hail Stan Sakai!
netflix cartoon is not about him but a decentent of him
I love Usagi Yojimbo character. I knew him ever since his crossover with the TMNT 2003 series.

He seriously needs to crossover with Samurai Jack.
HA!!!! I have thought about that awesome crossover idea that Samurai Jack and Miyamoto Usagi would crossover.
Cool 😎

Usagi I love it I’m going to watch that Netflix I discovered him on dark horse comics I read on my phone
At least we have Bucky O’Hare, but I still want a space Usagi show.
Awesome been a fan since he was on the original TMNT love your video
Amazing work
Samurai Rabbit is pretty dope I think people should give it a chance. I've rewatching it till s2
Awesome
I remember him being on TMNT, I hope that one of the anime Co. do an actual anime of Usagi Yojimbo
love that rabbit !!!!!!

Miyamoto Musashi is the best swordsman in history( imho and I'm probably biased)
For the longest time I thought he was just another character created for the TMNT Cartoon.
Cummings as Usagi? Damn would've been so awesome if that was released
Really hope he makes it in Shredders revenge as a unlockable character, they just finally announce Casey Jones, game comes out in week, hype is real.
Samurai Buggs Bunny. I'd watch a looney toons anime about that.
🤞 that he is DLC in TMNT: Shredder's Revenge 😁
Who else is here after Usagi Yojimbo is confirmed as a guest character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge?
🗡🐇🍕🐢
My local library has 2 of the usagi yojimbo
I have a comic of that was surprised to see this hope its as edgy as the comics
He would have looked badd ass if he came out in the 2007 movies animation

I actually like it plus the animation style is really cool its like TMNt2012

Usagi Yojimbo was first introduced in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for those who don't know
Usagi Yojimbo was first introduced in Albedo Anthropomorphics #2 in 1984. He didn't make a TMNT appearance until 1987 in the original cartoon.
Bugs Bunny + Steven Segal fusion.
He's so fine
My uncle owned a issue but I was never allowed to read it
Want he in ninja turtle
Imagine a manga adaptation of this wasscally wabbit? (I'm not sorry lol)
That would be rather interesting
Sad that it was produced by Netflix

It's a great video but listening to others attempt to pronounce Japanese names and words is a bit painful.
