Found this in an article about the song written by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page: “shows the softer side of Robert Plant. Written for his wife at the time, Maureen, it says the heartfelt things that we often find difficult to express, and it came at a pivotal time for the band.”

I love Zepplin. Have since they first came out. I always thought it was a classy move when they announced they would no longer perform as Led Zepplin when their drummer, John Bonham, died in 1980 of alcohol poisoning.. Great talent that you picked up on so quickly.
Wonderful song. As always, great reaction from you. Zep had Jimmy as a brilliant guitarist and studio man, Robert Plant's amazing singing, John's drumming, and their man in the background, John Paul Jones, who played bass AND keyboards live, and any other instrument that may be laying around, was the man who played the organ on this tune. He was also a brilliant studio arranger, maybe more so than Jimmy. This band had it all and knew how to use it.
If you want to hear a different side of Bonham, the side most people associate him with, try "When the Levee Breaks," first recorded by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy in 1929 about the disastrous Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Many levées were broken and states from Texas to Illinois were affected. Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas were the ones that suffered the most. It took three years for the water to fully subside. That and the Galveston hurricane of 1900 are the worst natural disasters that hit the US.
Jeepers, reckon I wrote a short history lesson. Anyway, John really worked up a sweat when he played drums on this one. Wore a bandana around his forehead even. You may want to give it a play. You'll love it.
As always, great song, great reaction.

The part about rain on the window being tears of love lost in the years gone by was written by Jimmy Page. The rest was written by Robert Plant to thank his wife for supporting him when he was an unknown struggling musician just starting out. Jimmy may have been thinking of his own experiences in the part he wrote. The song 'Tangerine' written by him may refer to the same experiences.

Yes this song is a tribute to his wife. The live that was lost was Robert's son the drown in the ocean (hence the Ocean). In a few songs he refers to his son as mountain. As lyrics say in this song(Thank You). So this song is all about his love for his wife and loss of his son

This is way after the fact, but Plant's son hadn't been born yet when this song was recorded in 1969. Karac was born in 1972 and died in 1977. This song is simply a love song to Plant's wife, Maureen and one of Robert's early attempts at being Zeppelin's lyricist.

you're going down a rabbit hole with zeppelin and their lyrics.... A deep, deep, dark hole. the more you explore, the deeper you'll get and the harder to escape. listen to Kashmir, (the beat has been covered by so many others,) you'll be memorized

I believe this is the first song that Robert Plant wrote by his self, Jimmy page, and Robert Plant, I believe had wrote all the songs together until this song. He wrote it for his wife because they lived apart a lot due to the intensive time away with the band. Thanking her for everything she does . They later divorced, but have always remained friends. After this song, I believe page felt. like plant
should write more songs. Himself So I believe plant did a majority of the writing after this.

Robert Plant the lead singer, lost his son in a very young age, and wrote a very beautiful song and tribute to him, called all of my love. You should check that one out it tugs on your heartstrings a little, so have your concealer catcher ready.

The cool sound is call stereo, and yes that was John Paul Jones on organ, other keyboards and bass, no need for studio or guest musicians, they were all studio musicians themselves!

Zeppelin will always surprise you. If you like their softer side, I suggest Going to California, Tangerine and That's the Way. None of their songs sound the same. They went out of their way to explore music in general and were masters at it. If you'd like to hear the more bluegrass style, check out Bron-Y-Aur Stomp. It's a song about Robert Plant's dog.
