Great job, brother! A field test by the river would be cool!

Great job brother. I always enjoy your knife build/rebuild projects. Relaxing and enjoyable. I do the same things myself. Oh... I dangle enough myself man, so I get it 😂

Nice job on the handle and sheath. I've had a Western bowie since I was a teenager. I used it a lot for a lot of years. It held up well. I always thought about thinning out the handle and cutting the back of the gard off. Never did. I don't use it much anymore. Too many other knives need using.

Beautiful job Drew. Really nice! Would love to see a field test with this Bowie. “I dangle enough myself.” 😂😂 👍🏻
Not much of a fan of those on sheaths. Not much of a fan of the strap across the guard that holds knives in place. I usually cut them off, put 2 holes about 1/2-3/4” above the guard, on both sides of handle. Put a 6-8” piece of paracord through holes, around handle & tie a square knot. Others may not approve but it works for me. To each their own 👍🏻.
The sheath is awesome! The natural color of it blends with the curly maple. Nice wolf & moon!
Catch ya in the other side Drew. Take care buddy. 👍🏻💪🏻🇺🇸☘️

@@johnherlihy260 Appreciate it John. I'm with you on the Paracord. I usually use a piece of leather lace to tie her in when needed. I'm working on a video for it. Don't know when it'll be up. Thank you for the compliment on the sheath, I agree, it works well with the curly Maple. I'll catch you on the next one my friend 💪🏼🇺🇸🤙🏼

Nice W49. Very quick in the hand. The W49 is indeed a superb classic design, and a more comfortable handle profile like yours can make a significant difference in its usability.

Beautiful work, brother. I too modified my 1970 W49 that I inherited from my grandfather. Simply reduced the guard to a more practical size and had a custom leather sheath made for it. Would love to see you running that Bowie through the paces down by the river, or up in the mountains.

@@jaimeleondelaparra3877 I really appreciate it Jamie. That is great that you have your Grandfather's W49. Really cool. I'll be sure to run mine through the paces. Thank you for watching my friend.

Some of the 19th century fighting styles would have you hold the knife so the edge was facing upwards when it was extended; the idea was that you would stab forward and slash upwards, effectively disemboweling your opponent. Maybe the previous owner was into old-school knife-fighting manuals? Just a theory.
