- Last canoe trip of the season on Lake Superior. After a season of narrating, I hand over the mic to nature. I've said more than enough.

When you said about your solitude and sharing feelings I was thinking you're devoting this great piece of art to Erin, yet you just thanked us for watching you :) But it is me who should thank you I guess. I wish much more people would watch your channel, but it looks like they are not quite ready yet. Majority in our world are leaning toward simple and rough rather than fine and complicated. They want "bread and circuses". Great thank you Jon for your honesty, courage, love to nature, your fine thoughts and for sharing all of it.
You are quite right !
Had to look up "bread and circuses"...awesome analogy. Thank you such much Gene. Truly appreciated.
I come back to this video sometimes because it’s good for soul 👍
As an old solo tripper and a disabled veteran, I was very touched by this. Thank You.
Didn't know that Robin. My Opa (and therefore I) might not be alive today if it wasn't for those who fought for freedom. Thank you for your service. And thank you for joining me.
The poppy ... perfect for the serenity you were blessed with..nice touch lad.
Thanks a lot Craig :)
“A man can be himself only so long as he is alone, and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom, for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.” Arthur Schopenhauer
🤯 Beauty Hayden, well done.
The big lake has my heart. Having nature narrate allowed me to be there and connect to the landscape. Beautiful work Jon!
Mine too Barb. My favourite lake. Thank you!
Beautiful end to a season. No talking just seeing and hearing, smelling and feeling. God's creation evident to all.
Which God?
I agree. Thor did a good job.
My apologies I got caught up in the emotions of the beauty
Hahah oh boy... Thanks a lot Henry. I'm not a religious person but I have loved ones who are very religious and I can appreciate the lens through which you're viewing this. Cheers man
@@henrymostert2125 -why apologize for what you believe in? You were basically just attacked by 'haters' of faith.
Jon as has been said before I’m sure, the privilege has been allowing us along with you on these trips. Thank you.
Watching for the second time on the big screen (commenting on the iPad) and seeing more than I did before. Your attentions, from the precious and the panoramic, time-lapse to stills… you are a gift to all of us Jon.
Thank you again.
I've been watching your content for a while, but that was truly...can't find another word... beautiful.
Thanks so much Steve :)
When it all comes together perfectly. Like watching Usain Bolt run or hearing Yo-yo Ma play cello. The individual and the pursuit become one and it is poetry. You have definitely found yours. Thanks for taking us along.
Damn Jeff, beautiful words. Thank you so much man.
Scrapping the canoe, only us canadians can do that 😂, you got my attention right away ! That lakeshore is beautiful . Your camera work and editing awesome ! It's alway's a pleasure to share your trip, thank's 🙏
Hahaha that was a first for me. Thanks a bunch Sylvain!
Your silence speaks volumes. Definitely supplied me with many questions. Am I camping to fulfill my soul, or just getting away? Am I accomplishing a re-generation, or failing to connect with the "wild" I crave? My questions remain unanswered... I believe I need to re-assess why I need the wilderness. Your videos provide inspiration. Thank you.
Thanks so much Reed, an excellent question. Some say this kind of behaviour is escapism and that we're just running away from our problems and seeking temporary relief. But I disagree. We're forming a critical life-long relationship with nature (which our society sorely lacks), and getting the spiritual fulfillment similar to the type that one might get from a church or meditation.
the power and bueaty of a lake is a force that has to be exsperienced
So true. Especially on the really windy days. It's incredible.
The privilege is ours. Thank you.
Thank you Bringer of Cable! 🙏
You are so sweet. What a beautiful film, my favorite so far. The music, the sounds and the joy of solitude just put my heart at rest. I love that area too. Thank you for your hard work...enjoyed every minute.
Love to hear that it provides some peace :) Thanks so much Tracy!
Wow! What a beautiful & calming video that was. I felt my stress disappear for a bit. Thanks
Love to hear that. Thanks FWW :)
Thanks to both of you, it's been a wonderful season and the videos do you proud. Cheers
Thank you my friend :)
Such a beautiful video. The sounds and scenery speak to the soul. I didn't want it to end
There is no thing as sure and as constant as change Jon. Like the waves that beat the shore without a care, the heart is drug along the ever changing sands. Embrace the change or change the embrace. Being alone builds deep understanding while loneliness meets our virtue and cries for consistency. 'Keep doing what you love'....
You do make some great videos, thanks for sharing, hope to see more of them soon. - Via Con Dios
Beautiful Hannah...thank you so much 🙏
Thanks for taking us along !
Awesome. Forgoing narration gave this video a beautiful sense of solemnity. Thank you for having us along. What a beautiful late fall trip. :)
Well put Brendan---thank you!
Thanks for another awesome year of adventures.
Super, you're so fortunate to have on your doorstep so many fantastic environments with so much space to escape... Enjoy the Winter and see you in the Spring ;)
Another amazing video Jon! Your videography was unreal and it was so enjoyable to watch. Thanks for taking us all along this season. You live in such a great part of Ontario for doing this!
100% man, so lucky to have landed here last year. Thanks so much as always :)
This is very well done. When I’m not in the woods I like to at least live vicariously through you haha thank you
Love it, thanks Average Angler! :)
Thanks for sharing the times away alone and with Erin. For me, It's great to do the virtual ride along. I'm hoping to fish from the kayak many times in 2020. Enjoy the winter friend.
Thank you for joining Sean! :)
Three things if I may? Firstly, your vids are awesome and I enjoy every one of them. Please keep them coming. Secondly, Thank you for wearing a poppy in the vid. . For you to take the time and effort to keep it on your PFD and hoodie on a back country trip, tells me that it is top of mind for you. We greatly appreciate it ! Lastly.....please do yourself a fav, and ditch that aluminum pot. Thanks again and stay well.
Thanks so much Mark :) My Opa grew up in Holland during WWII and was liberated by the Canadians. It's a privilege to wear the poppy. What is it about the aluminum pot? Do you think it leeches into the food? I believe I read that acidic foods may do that, but otherwise it shouldn't be a big issue. Welcome your thoughts though.
This might be the best video I’ve ever seen on RUclips. Everything I could ever want in one video.
Too kind TB! Thanks man!!!!
Thank you for this Jon. I observe the Sabbath beginning at sundown on Fridays (even when on kayaking trips) when I unplug from all the current treasonous events perpetrated by our politicians. Even though I enjoy your voice and narrations, this no-speak video you’ve shared is SURPRISINGLY healing, inspiring, beautiful with intricate closeups and distant waves breaking into the invisible, where personal meditations are uninterrupted, allowing dreams to well up… and it will be looped every Sabbath. Very Much Appreciated Sir.
We don’t get to see the moon traverse horizontally here in north central Texas. The time-laspe captures were…. WOW.
Ah, nothing like the Big Lake! Great video, I liked the attention and effort put into the music and ambient sound well done!
Truly nothing like it! Thanks brother
Very nice!! The season isn't over...just transitioning to something different.
Exactly. We got a blast of winter earlier in the month and then it fizzled which was disappointing. But it's coming back and we're stoked for it!
Very nice video, Lake Superior is the best of them all, and great fishing. And a big thank you for sharing Jon!
Best lake I know! Thanks my friend 🙏
Tranquil. Love it.
Absolutely incredible trip Bud! No bugs either 😃
Your videography keeps getting better and you never fail to showcase the beauty of our province. Thanks for an amazing 2019 and I expect more epicness ahead. I am so proud to be your friend!
Thank you my dear friend ♥
Yet another phenomenal episode...thanks to YOU for sharing! Awesome brother. 👍🏻
Much appreciated Wildhood! 🙏
I loved when just after laughing the canoe, you did a underwater go pro thing. It was really cool when you went over that shipwreck!
Thanks FACER :) Caught me by surprise when I reviewed the footage back home. Hopefully I can find it again next year to document it better.
Word not needed. content spoke for itself. beautiful
work.
Beautiful. What a great film to end the open-water season with. I was focussed on all the stunning scenery you captured. No words required.
Thanks a lot Canoeman :) Nice to not have to worry about narrating too. Will likely do this now and then.
Heck you make the laker fishing look easy . Great area wish it were closer
he made that area been closer to him :)
@@gener6538 Guess if it were cloder to southern ont . the meat fishermen would ruin it like they have so many places. Heck used to get lakers like that regular in Algonquin , now we have to settle with 1.5 lbers if we're lucky.
Hahah I give all credit to Superior. It's the best trout fishery I know.
A big thanks from our couch and a tiny little laptop that we both enjoy watching your amazing trips and videos.
Hahah thanks for escaping with me Kevin & co :)
This is your best work to date Jon.
I choked up with your final message.
You captured solitude, peace, and serenity like never before.
I can’t remember how I happened to find you, but I’m so glad I did.
❤️🛶🏕🎣
Aw shucks, thank you brother. Learning lots about doing this each year which is fun. Still so far to go. Thanks again Mark, really appreciate that.
Just fabulous!
Runtastically .... short this one -great photos!!!!
Amazing as always. You are truly gifted in your video stories.
Greatly appreciate that Darryl!!
perfect watch with my Sunday morning coffee. well done man!
Nice touch with the poppy , lest we forget.
Aw, last one? Bitter sweet, always sad to have the canoe season come to an end. Great video.
Thanks Amori! Lots of winter fun to come until next paddling season :)
Thanks for sharing your trips with us brother!
Thanks for joining Mark!
So beautiful. Well done, sir. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you Ben!
Great work man ty for producing this, emotional stuff. A Tug Of War..!!
Thank you my friend :)
One of your best. Thank you
🙂🙏
I think your last quote nailed it. I always see more smiles, grins, and laughter when Erin is sharing your trip. As a little old man in the salad bar line told me on my first date with my wife, "I think she's the one for you", and he was right 33 years ago. Thanks for a peaceful get away!
100%. I always enjoyed being a soloist but now I know what I'm missing. That's awesome...definitely how I feel about Erin :)
Beautiful... your filming skills have definitely reached the next level. This one was my favorite. Looking forward to next year.
Thank you Martin! Just hacking my way through the art of videography, but appreciate hearing that :)
Thank you for your channel . This video was so serene, great ! I do enjoy time by myself and also didn’t finish Walden for the same reason.
Keep up the great work!
I kept wondering when he was going to stop griping about society and start appreciating nature. Didn't stick around long enough to find out lol. Thanks Jeff!
It is us who are privileged and fortunate to view your passion thank you for sharing the videos that you produce.
Thank you Paul :)
Very Cool Shots!!!!! Well done!
Hey John! I've been catching up on your content that you put out over the summer. It's nice that I saved it for the winter so I can get pumped for future adventures next summer. This past summer I got out more than I have ever before and next summer will be even better for me.
I really enjoyed this video on particular. I do enjoy your commentary but the focus on the shots with the accompanying music was nice to see.
Wish you and your family all the best these holidays!
Hey David, great to hear from you! That's what I like to hear...what was your favourite trip this year? Thanks a lot :) Have a Happy New Year my friend.
@@LostLakes Great to hear from you! I'm enjoying your video with Explore the Backcountry and Alexis outdoors. Looks like it was quite the fun party n camp!
As for my favorite trip this year, its definitely gotta go to Temagami with the Spanish as a close second. The wife and I spent a week out in the Obabika area (only have camped out for a max of 3 nights before this). We made it up toe Cheek-Son lake and camped in front of the Spirit rock among the old growth forest. This was definitely a spiritual moment for me as I am aware of the history of the area. All in my head, but it was like I could feel a certain energy in the air in this area. We then had to modify our trip and decided to take a trip down the Obabika river. This was the perfect river for my wife since we didn't have to contend with any rapids. Got to see plenty of wildlife along the way, and made many great memories.
I'm hoping to make it up even further north in 2020. I'd love to make it up north of Lake Superior to somewhere like Wabikimi or the Steel river. Need to practice my whitewater canoeing first though!
Happy New Years to you and Erin. Can't wait to see more trips from you.
PS. I'm still holding out on bumping into you on the trails. You mentioned in a much older video how that you didn't expect that to happen but that it would make your day. One thing I can say for sure, is that we did run into each other, it'd make my day at least.
Safe travels!
great ending for this season
Thank you for sharing your trips with us. Look forward to many more.
Great trip, I can’t get enough of those beautiful trout!
They're so beautiful...jewels from the Superior treasure chest.
I like all your videos but this one is my favorite - love the quiet
Thanks Joel! I enjoyed the break from trying to narrate...planning to do this now and then on solos :)
Amazing, love your channel. Nice work! Looking forward to seeing what’s next.👍❤️🛶
Thanks a lot Bob!
This will be great to watch after a rough day at work. Thanks for posting this. North country is so calming.
Pure therapy to be out there. Thanks a lot Chad :)
Great video. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Thanks a lot Faceless Nine :)
I actually loved the silence!! The same reason I love solo trips just that solitude to get to know yourself and everything around you!
You got it man. It's a gateway to your inner self
For the record, I'm not even a Thoreau fan. I tried to read Walden and gave up. Can't deal with that verbosity.
But the citation is great! Suits me well!
Backcountry Angling Ontario The classic, Desert Solitaire (Edward Abbey), is worth the read if you haven’t already. Thank you for the great season in the backcountry angling. Cheers Jon and fulfilling Holidays to you from Colorado. J
@@JohnShepherdMusic I'm glad to see people are still reading in 2019 👍
Sylvain
Keep up the great work and keep investing in your channel. You got something special man.
Agreed Sylvain, just needed to steal the quote 😝
Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing all of your experiences with us! I can't wait for next spring.
Thank you JD! Lots of winter fun to come to fill the gap :)
@@LostLakes Haha awesome!! I got into open water fishing pretty seriously this year and now I'm diving into ice fishing to keep myself busy. Are we going to see any hardwater videos from you? :)
@@TechnicallyRugged just finished editing the first one last night hahah 😜
@@LostLakes Yessssss!! Looking forward to it, and more. Thanks for all the work you put into filming.
@@TechnicallyRugged my pleasure man, thanks for joining!
Loved the whole vibe of this, I dream of such an adventure in such a pristine wilderness. Thanks for sharing. Subbed. All the best from Scotland. Garry
Thanks so much Garry :) It's paradise for a camper here in northern Ontario.
Best one yet! Videos like these is what keeps me goin outside, and keep my channel going!
Thanks so much Winters Kamp, really appreciate that!
Thanks Jonathan !
Great vid and wonderful insights
Just re watched this..one of my favs !
Thanks Craig :)
Excellent post!
Thank you!
Stunning, Jon. Thank you.
Your video went down good with my morning coffee.
That's what I like to hear :) Thanks Ron!
No dude Thank you, beautiful video
Absolutely beautiful. The cinematography spoke for itself. I have to admit though that I was expecting you to breakout in a mime at any moment. 😆
Hahaha thanks a lot Roger!
Really, really good. I felt like I was watching a Terrence Malik film. Thank you for the great content.
Wasn't familiar with him but, based on a quick search, that sounds like a very generous analogy. Thanks so much!
very nice video. so relaxing.
Oh my goodness. Jon I found this video so powerful and moving. Thank you. 🚣♂️💕🐟🥂🏞🏕❄❄
Thank you so much Nikki! :)
very nice!! beautiful pictures and peaceful without any talking, nature sound´s said it all!!
Thanks zeb! Nature narrates far better than I ever could :)
Your filming has come a long way. Well done.
For sure...still has so far to go. Getting there slowly :) Thanks Adam!
Well done sir...well done
THANK YOU
Your channel is amazing. I fell very connected to you in a safe vulnerable way. I feel you and get you.
Thanks Jon... been a lot of fun watching you guys! Any hints of what's on for ice-out? Okay, that's selfish of me. Merry Christmas!!
Hahaha already Tristan!? We haven't even officially hit winter yet! 😂 So much planned, but probably something similar to our "A Canoe Route of Our Own" ice-out trip this year :) Merry Christmas!
Beautiful Jon.Thanking you in spades
Extraordinary...
🤫. Very nice. Like we were there. Thanks.
Absolutely amazing bro! I'm not saying I don't like to hear you talk, but this was an epic creation IMO!!!
Hahah thanks buddy. Was nice to not have to worry about "telling the story" too. Probably something I'll do once a year or so
Fantastic video. Well done
Thank you Diane!
One of the best .... Really enjoyed some fishing... Thx and cheers
Thanks so much Jim :)
Really enjoyable video 👍🏼👏🏻
Thanks Rawly :)
When I was getting bummed out about running out of friends to camp with I looked up solo camping. What a pleasant discovery your channel has been! It really inspired me to dust off the gear and head out regardless if someone came with me or not. Awesome filming and editing btw
Fantastic Kevin, I love to hear that. Thank you man.
I feel like I'm whispering this in type form. Great video, ssssshhhhhh!
Hahah thanks Paul! 😜
Fantastic
Pic Island? You are brave to go on Lake Superior in November, because The gales of November remember
