In WoW, I agree, Arthas beats DW slightly. But if you include the WoW books, DW is a million times more badass. Ner'Zhul was just an orc that regretted helping the Legion and was tortured, killed and revived until he agreed to keep helping them. Arthas was prince, but a very bratty one to begin with. He manipulated the dragons in the War of the Ancients, the Alliance during the Second War, and of course, the in-game events related to the Hour of Twilight. Whenever he's not demolishing cities, he's plotting in disguise to weave history in his favor.
I love Deathwing, I love his concept, and best of all, I love his music. The Spine of Deathwing fight, however, is still completely and utterly borked.
Great villain, not quite on the level of Arthas in terms of interacting with the player, but that makes sense, since Deathwing's motives are so alien to us as players, and he's not as relatable. Xaxas is another name for deathwing, given to him by the mortal races of Azeroth after he became corrupted and thus was not worthy of being called aspect of the earth any longer.
"The elves had another name for him, spoken only in whispers and only in the elder tongue almost forgotten. *Xaxas* . A short title with many meanings, all dire. Chaos, Fury. Deathwing is pretty much a god, Smaug is just a dragon. The only reason he was a threat was because he could easily kill humans and elves because of his size
They conveyed a great enemy in Cataclysm with him, not only he had been able to cause a whole world change, but he was shown to be able to bring about the end of all Azeroth in one single hit, the Well of Eternity, also showed the prime point of no return for his insanity. The raid of Dragon Soul might not be spectacular, but the end with him is, either you win, or you lose Azeroth with you. He left the Dragonflights mortal and open for an attack, not bad for an enemy mostly left out since WC2.

Matthew Slee Perhaps a Deathwing of size of Galakrond? Since Deathwing is way smaller than Ancalagon, positive plus negative equal negative. Galakrond's size will be perfect I think.
+DoctahPeppah Their is "Gods" and "Gods" you know. Gods with planetary destruction powers and universal Gods who can delete galaxies, not the same level, but for mortals they are all Gods because of their insane powers in compare to them. In God of War, they are island destructors (and really few of them). Deathwing is godlike in WoW, he's rage and destruction incarnate. The last spell of Deathwing (the one we interrupted by killing him) was the last Cataclysm, world destruction level. And nothing can kill Deathwing, no mortals, no Gods of his level (other aspects), only the Dragon Soul with all the powers of the other Aspects : God like creatures gave their powers (ALL their powers, even their immortality) just to charge a Godlike weapon able to kill the most powerful dragon ever. Well. I don't really like Deathwing as a villain, because he's a little bit too powerful in my opinion : even Blizzard had hard time to find a way to kill him. And that was a giant plot hole (we stole the dragon soul from the past... Nozdormu wtf ?)
+Mister Sunlight It's not actually that much of a plot hole if you think about it. Once the Dragon Soul was used and Nozdormu lost his power (along with the other aspects), it sort of got "snapped back" to were it would have been in history without the Aspect of Time's power holding it in the present. Thus, creating a stable time loop.
TheWhiteFaction PVE as hard? It was basically BC PVE, just with 10 times more whiners. Besides, I was talking about about Cata in general. That includes that year long Dragon Soul and that 4.1 that for some reason only put 2 dungeons, which, may I add, were the worst two dungeons to put ever.
13 37 Yeah i start playing in TBC and i have to say Cataclysm had best visual gear. But nothing will beat the warlock wings in TBC. Most epic gear blizzard made for players.
yeah you are right for those points indeed, I only wish he was included more during the questing other than the randomly flying over zones and killing people and the intro to Twilight Highlands for Horde. Though I did really enjoy his fight with Alextrasia in Twilight Highlands.
I think what they failed to translate was how his madness was finally taking it's toll; it was way too downplayed as "the whispers of the old ones growing worse in recent years"; hence, he could still act as he did in Cata and it still made sense; he was losing what little vestiges of sanity were left in him by Cata. Still, it was neat to see the dragon feared by ALL races in legend ravage the world.
I know I'm late to the party, but it actually did appear in the games, but only through quest texts, and a lot of people simply clicked accept and didn't read the texts most lore in Shadow Highlands near Grim Batol (Cho'Galls Hideout) but Darkshore, Thousand Needles and especially Silithus and the deserts south of it had a lot of lore in the quest texts
Just one think, Illidan started working for the nagas during WotA and eventully wanted more power, which is why he was bannished, he was a threat and his brother saw that ... Also, his brother took the exile with him and Illidan got out from the emerald nightmare before his brother
Yes, thats quite right. Of course players see it as months of farming and killing and so on, but the main story with the Rise of Deathwing to his fall is only at the most a few days long.
I do believe the entire Cataclysm Xpac was only focused on a few days times I heard that it was basically 1 night and 1 day long. So Deathwing circling around Dragonblight might've been actually a few minutes or hours of time.
@Admartimus Lich King-created as puppet by Kil'Jaeden. Deathwing-created as and Aspect and Guardian of Azeroth by the Titans themselves. Now empowered by the powers of the Old Gods aswell. Now guess who's stronger.
@Rykanable Lich King - Arthas an ner'zhul together, being able to stop ur heart by just blinking Deathwing - a crazed Aspect that has been blessed by the Titans, corrupted by the old Gods and now a puppet of them... and the fact that the LK is a puppet of Kil'Jaeden doesnt make him weak... DoctahPeppah Deathwing stomps. Kratos has nothing.
Bracken Idk, He did kill the entire pantheon of Greek gods. I'd imagine He'd work through Deathwing in an instant.
DoctahPeppah Greek Gods with mountain level destructive capability at best. Deathwing cracked the planet by throwing a tantrum underground.
I am power INCARNATE!!!!!!!1!!!!
ALL WILL BURN
i started in cata and i loved it special how warrior was and how cool the gear of warrior was damn
Honestly, the only way someone would love Cata is if you started in Cata, so you got lucky :P
Gogito4 Reckstorm keebaaam
Gogito4
I started in vanilla and early cata when pve was hard was my favorite moment
TheWhiteFaction PVE as hard? It was basically BC PVE, just with 10 times more whiners.
Besides, I was talking about about Cata in general. That includes that year long Dragon Soul and that 4.1 that for some reason only put 2 dungeons, which, may I add, were the worst two dungeons to put ever.
13 37 Yeah i start playing in TBC and i have to say Cataclysm had best visual gear. But nothing will beat the warlock wings in TBC. Most epic gear blizzard made for players.
1:35 Best part
The most metal dragon in all of fantasy.
(in more than one sense of the word)
lord of the rings desolation of smaug will end in 15 minutes if deathwing is in the movie xD
I am fire........I am de...OH SHIT
lol smaug isn't even 1/3 the size of deathwing
8 months later...7 dislikes: Alexstrasza,Ysera,Nozdormu,Kalecgos,Thrall,Malfurion...and Arthas.
yeah you are right for those points indeed, I only wish he was included more during the questing other than the randomly flying over zones and killing people and the intro to Twilight Highlands for Horde. Though I did really enjoy his fight with Alextrasia in Twilight Highlands.
1:09 ITS WRETCHED KINGDOMS QUAKE BENEATH MY RAGE
ich werde ihn vermissen .....machs gut todesschwinge .... ;(((( i will miss him ...good bye deathwing ...;(((((((
0:23 It sounds like Mars, Bringer of War, by Gustav Holst... I love that reference !
Chen converts 3 ancient dragons.mp4
King Fedorah upvote this post for the good of future generations
King Fedorah all will burn beneath the shadow... of his aghanims.
Jolie musique bravo!!!!!
Best WoW song.
how could someone dislike this?
THEY SHALL BURN BY DEATHWING'S FIRE
brace yourself...
*deathwing farts - Auberdine gets crushed, Barrens get split, a lot of wild animals go nuts and crazy and shit*
Deathwing is coming!
Yep
I think what they failed to translate was how his madness was finally taking it's toll; it was way too downplayed as "the whispers of the old ones growing worse in recent years"; hence, he could still act as he did in Cata and it still made sense; he was losing what little vestiges of sanity were left in him by Cata.
Still, it was neat to see the dragon feared by ALL races in legend ravage the world.
I know I'm late to the party, but it actually did appear in the games, but only through quest texts, and a lot of people simply clicked accept and didn't read the texts
most lore in Shadow Highlands near Grim Batol (Cho'Galls Hideout) but Darkshore, Thousand Needles and especially Silithus and the deserts south of it had a lot of lore in the quest texts
you know what i'm thinking? Kratos VS Deathwing. THAT would be epic.
hell yeah! that would be the most amazing thing ever!
Impossibro.
And then Asura comes in with his Berserk form and kills them both! >:D
Deathwing would kill them with a single fireblast.
Smash button for 45 minutes.
Just one think, Illidan started working for the nagas during WotA and eventully wanted more power, which is why he was bannished, he was a threat and his brother saw that ... Also, his brother took the exile with him and Illidan got out from the emerald nightmare before his brother
*"I. AM. THE. CATACLYYYSSSMMM!!!"*
Why this music is nostalgic
PAIN..............AGONY....... So Epic
Yes, thats quite right. Of course players see it as months of farming and killing and so on, but the main story with the Rise of Deathwing to his fall is only at the most a few days long.
And All shall burn, Beneath the Shadow of my wings.
In my opinion Cataclysm was awesome!
they did the best they could for a video game experience, i mean final end fight with death wing was pretty epic by the scale of the fight
It's a shame his raid was really not that good... Firelands is where it's at.
Nevermind, Firelands is complete shit, Dragon Soul is better.
Kaisergun The Spine of Deathwing is the biggest pain in the prostate ever conceived by Blizzard. :(
And the concept was great but poorly executed.
So...Much...orange....
Yea it sounds just like his theme in HotS only no guitars
it's a good soundtrack for deathwing
wish if it could be longer.
I do believe the entire Cataclysm Xpac was only focused on a few days times I heard that it was basically 1 night and 1 day long. So Deathwing circling around Dragonblight might've been actually a few minutes or hours of time.
Like, literally!
@Admartimus
Lich King-created as puppet by Kil'Jaeden.
Deathwing-created as and Aspect and Guardian of Azeroth by the Titans themselves. Now empowered by the powers of the Old Gods aswell.
Now guess who's stronger.
They had to play this music in GOT S8E5.
@Rykanable Lich King - Arthas an ner'zhul together, being able to stop ur heart by just blinking
Deathwing - a crazed Aspect that has been blessed by the Titans, corrupted by the old Gods and now a puppet of them... and the fact that the LK is a puppet of Kil'Jaeden doesnt make him weak... Deathwing is though
@swcoco Dont forget he also has the power of the Corrupting Old Gods, aswell as the Titans
