    Teetotaler because of the alcoholism I was forced to grow up with. I need a 12 step program for being 65. 😁

    Thank you. I am just thinking about the 12 steps. Think I will read the BRB first. 20 years sober. ACoA is amazing. I will be back for more :)

    Thank you so much for explaining this. I am struggling because I tend to overthink everything and I don't always understand how to answer questions. I look forward to watching part 2 once I finish the first part. You are awesome and again thank you so much for doing these videos. I hope you continue to go through these steps with us.

      Thank you so much. If you find my video about the Serenity Prayer, maybe it will address the matter of overthinking.

    Making a blameless inventory of our family was so helpful to me when I went through the yellow workbook as it helped give me perspective on the family dysfunction. It also helped me understand that it did not start with me, or my f.o.o., but that it was intergenerational. Made the pill easier to swallow, if that makes sense.

      Same here! I see those patterns in the generations and how we carry dysfunction forward if we don't break it up.
      Thank you!

    Thank you for all your videos and the hard work you put into them. I just finished up your videos on 1-4. You explain the information so thoroughly. I loved all the visual presentation and breakdown!!! I was even inspired to purchase the workbook and looked into meetings. Great work and recovery!!!

    Thank you for this video. I am just coming to ACA I’ve had a long history of dysfunctional parents and marriage and that part about I have endured much and I am dysfunctional just really gets to me because I’ve always worked and maintained a roof over my head, etc. and thought that was good enough but I feel like everything around me is quicksand

      The yellow workbook is great. shop.adultchildren.org/products/12_step_workbook-spiral_bound It's only $10. The Big Red Book has more info, but the workbook is helpful with breaking each step down. Step One is basically you getting it all out: family history, your role in the family, and how the laundry list defines you as an adult child. If you're on my channel, you might want to check out The Serenity Prayer, the Laundry List, and the overview of the 12 Steps, and watch those videos first. If you jump right into Step One you might miss what the big picture looks like.

    Existential childhood habit..mom ran away..she had to. Sis, is /has done the same, unknowlingly....repeating that existential childhood trait of mom. Thank-you, I'm 70...look8ng at the laundry list...10 alchoholics...so far...O.M.G.. !?! Luckily I'm a very devout Christian...still.....it's bad.

      Recognizing yourself in the 14 traits is humbling. Seeing the patterns in your family tree is revealing. Working the steps is the muscle work to pull yourself away from those traits and out of those patterns. Then you'll understand who you really are. It's liberating.

    Does Step One look at just my childhood or should I be looking at everything up to the present day? Wonderful video series, by the way. Thank you so much for posting them.

    • @elainemartin7141
      @elainemartin7141  11 месяцев назад +2

      I'm trying to remember. You will make a family tree. It will trace your family members' adult child behaviors, so that's even BEFORE your life begins and adjacent to it: to see patterns, how dysfunction is learned and passed on.
      The yellow workbook has a series of questions about parents or guardians' roles, your own roles and powerlessness. Some of the questions ask a little bit about your present adult self, but much of the work that reviews your adult life will come in Step Four. If you order the yellow workbook, it will provide a little more than I have covered. Pretty sure I made more than one video for Step One, so look for that if you don't have the book(s) yet.

      I kind of ran out of steam. I'll try. Since you asked, I'll think about it more seriously. That's the thing about Step Four. It's really exhausting!!!

      @@elainemartin7141 Okie dokie! I just got into reading the ACA red book and the yellow workbook and I'm currently on Step One. Your video really helped me understand everything a lot more! Especially because I'm not in any meetings or what not. I'm new to it all and I plan on watching your Step One Part B tomorrow! But yes I hope you're willing to keep it going! It's extremely helpful and I love how you break everything down.
