OK, I see you.
Connor Maddox almost made me spit up milk
Metlife was outdated when it was built.
Who makes a building that looks like a giant spindle of DVDs right around the time that DVDs were being phased out for streaming video?

The olympics is the worst when it comes to abandon areas/stadiums
Seriously. He could've done thsi vid on abandoned Olympic sites alone and made it twice as long.
I live in near the oylmpic village in London and I feel like London 2012 was great in the long run because most venues are being use today
They should only host the Olympics in places that will actually get use out of 75% of the arenas/stadiums.
Except in L.A. and Atlanta...
@@rootsadriano7131 Part of why the North American World Cup in 2026 will be awesome. I barely remember the 1994 World Cup, but part of what made it so great is that it basically just used existing NFL and college stadiums for all it's USA venues, which is also the case in 2026 (Rose Bowl, MetLife, FedExField, Arrowhead, Mile High, NRG, Megatron's butthole, the Linc, Nissan Stadium, the Clink, Gillette, Paul Brown Stadium, and Hard Rock Stadium). Canada and Mexico are all existing venues as well. Literally zero venues are being built from scratch for that only to be abandoned later (looking at you, Brazil), although YMMV on whether or not slave labor was involved.
The Roman Colosseum is awesome. I’ve been there and it’s completely astonishing. After 2,000 years there is no way it should be standing.
That's right. Thank ya baby Jesus!
They should renovate and modernize it.
Rhodesian Patriot right? It's a pride of ancient architectural height.
@@Suijiro99 Yes.
@@porchofgeese_crockpot i dont think they can without it losing its historical protection
The Astrodome is a Houston icon. It is now labeled a landmark. It will get some new renovations and will be open as a tourist attraction in a couple of years. Long Live the Dome.
The Astrodome is actually a Texas and it has the Texas plaque on it
So the Astrodome is getting a makeover it now has a Texas history plaque on it
Great place for a indoor rodeo! Hahaha!
The dome is cool
as a titans fan I would love to visit!!
Wtf I went to that Pro Bass Shop last year and wondered why it was a pyramid. I didn’t know the Grizzlies played there lol.
Fun fact: The Pyramid was also the site of the Mike Tyson/Lennox Lewis fight in 2002. Manny Pacquiao was on the undercard.
I know I read that on wiki and I still didn't believe it
I live in Memphis! I see that pyramid everyday
The Grizzlies played there, Memphis Tigers played there. They also held concerts in that building. Both Grizzlies and Tigers left the Pyramid for Fed-Ex forum. The Pyramid ultimately became a big time money loser for the city of Memphis.
Me neither lol
If I remember just one thing from this video, it's that President Eisenhower held both of his balls in Washington Coliseum.
LOL
IM SURE MRS. EISENHOWER HELD BOTH HIS BALLS THERE AS WELL.. AND PROBABLY A FEW INTERNS TOO!
Anyone else getting BrightSunFilms vibes from this?
That's the first thing I thought about when I saw this video
Same tbh. Maybe FPV and BSF should do a joint Abandoned project?
BSF is so good at what they do. I dont think im on their level :)
I like BSF too!
I'm a sub I like abandoned video especially in stadium
10:38 speaking of rain in the Astrodome, you failed to mention that was once a RAINOUT (yes, a rainout) at the stadium in 1976. The story goes that there was such heavy rain, comparable to a Tropical Storm, that the streets in Houston flooded, and were particularly bad around the stadium. The teams, worried fans would get caught in the flooding, and with the umpires still MIA, canceled the game, and instead the players of both teams, along with a few fans who had made it to the game prior to cancellation, gathered on the field. It was the only rainout in the Astrodome's history, at least without a hurricane getting the game preemptively moved/canceled.
To this day seeing the Astrodome the way it is frustrates me for how it has been left. That stadium is amazing and I wish the city of Houston wouldn't have let it gone to waste like it has...
Seriously. Heart breaking.
Where's the Cleveland Browns field? All the fans left by like 1980.
Fans keep showing up. Just the team never shows up

The bass pro shop in the Pyramid is awesome too, it has a series of creeks running through the floor with live fish in them and there's also Hotel rooms lol.
I wonder what kind of snake nests are in the Astrodome.

I've lived in Houston my whole life, and as of 2016, the city is planning on creating a hotel within the Astrodome. But, they've thrown other ideas out as well, and the dome hasnt been touched in awhile.

The maracana is literally not abandoned. The media makes it seems like it is. It’s the home field for flamengo and Fluminense. They play there almost every week!!
yeah, get your facts straight homie..otherwise great videos
BR!

Thank you! VIVA BRASIL!!
The thing I miss about many of these former arenas and stadiums is how unique they looked from one another. Many stadiums now are very cookie cutter looking, but the past venues had a unique design that would let you know what city they were playing in without needing to know the teams.
Mind explaining further? I get it with new stadiums like MetLife, but new ones like Allegiant, Mercedes-Benz and So-Fi all look pretty unique imo. There was some awesome old stadium designs, I'll give you that, but there was also many of those "multi-use" stadiums built in the 60's and 70's that were all pretty horrid not just as a building but as a place to "enjoy" a sporting event

Astrodome was still pretty dope all the way into the 70s. Vast majority of people never went there, they only saw it in their newfangled color TVs and with the controlled lighting and technicolor turf it was one of the coolest thing on TV.
Aloha Stadium in Honolulu could easily be on this list. It fits all the criteria: decay, lack of safety, declining interest. Problem is, UH still uses it.
Not anymore
The Reliant Astrodome should be REFURBISHED into a basketball/hockey arena for the Rockets, and an NHL EXPANSION team.
I visited Pripyat in August. According to a Ukrainian guide the stadium has never seen any real use, disaster striking as it had just been completed. Right now it's just all overgrown with trees, couldn't tell I was looking at a sports venue. There's Google Street view in most of that place and in the stadium as well, you'll see it's really just a big mess, it's not that scary. The soil is still contaminated but radiation levels are normal ish since the new sarcophagus was installed over the reactor. Coordinates are 51.4107, 30.0550
Thats awesome
I live in Louisville and freedom hall is still used occasionally
Nate Tiernan this guy doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Yeah I know for a fact that it is used at least twice a year by Vex Robotics and also by Skillsusa.
He did say it's occasionally used for state events
I live like 2 miles from freedom hall and yeah it gets used a lot

Not long after. They're looking for a new building, as well.
If they don't stay in Oakland, then that'll make all three teams getting out of East Bay.
The A's are stuck there because the city refuses to build another stadium, lol
Ita a joke lol
next up, oakland alameda coliseum
The A's will be there for a few more years
There is nothing wrong with the Oakland Coliseum. That stadium is well preserved and well taken care of for its age. The area surrounding it and the people leave much to be desired.
All that stadium needs is some refurbishment. Maybe revert it into a baseball only format stadium, before the raiders moved back there in 1995. This would include demolishing the mount al Davis seating section which ruined that stadium's panoramic view of Oakland hills.
Have you been there ?
Its not abandoned idiot they still have 2 years.
This is literally the first premiere I’ve ever tuned into
thanks
Textual meme: Bass Pro Shops and REI (two very similar stores) shaking hands and in the middle it says “converting old arenas into store locations”

The only thing that made me laugh, i want to see the stadium (marlins) in real life.
The Astrodome story gets worse when you also include the former Astroworld Theme Park that was next too it.
Great video five points very educational and funny at points great job

Slight correction: The arena pictured at 3:38 is actually Hershey Park Arena, not Uline Arena. Love the video though!
Love this video, hoping for a part two soon!
As someone who is a lifelong resident of Memphis, TN, I don't think you should put The Pyramid Arena on your list of creepy abandoned stadiums because it isn't abandoned. Bass Pro occupies this building and is in use. Of course we do have a real abandoned sports venue in The Mid South Coliseum that has been abandoned since 2006.
The Mid South Coliseum was built in 1963 at the Mid South fairgrounds. It hosted ABA basketball, Memphis State Tiger basketball, minor league hockey, concerts, wrestling and indoor soccer. It hosted concerts by Elvis Presley and the Beatles. The venue was abandoned by the University of Memphis Tiger basketball program when the Pyramid Arena opened. It was abandoned by the CHL's Memphis Riverkings in 2000 when they moved to play at the Landers Center in Desoto County, MS. It held on for a little while longer as a music venue until 2006 when the last concert was performed there. Ever since then, it is closed to the public and has been left rotting ever since.
Every time Memphis city council debates on what to do with the structure and propose tearing it down, the local preservation society take them to court and stops them. When proposing to re-purpose the building, two things stand in the way. The lease agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies and Fed-Ex Forum and the fact that it is going to take at least $50 million dollars to renovate and refit the Coliseum. The city doesn't want to spend $1 million per year for upkeep of a building that isn't in use right now. So it sits rotting away unused and untouched.
that's a good one
The building turned into a Bass Pro Shop
Probably your best video to date. If you plan to do a sequel to this video, might I recommend Texas World Speedway? Been abandoned since the 90s and has fallen into disrepair
Yeah def there aren’t many still standing is the problem
North Wilkesboro is even creepier. Surprised that's not on here.
Texas World Speedway was recently used to house destroyed vehicles by Hurricane Harvey until they could be finalized in insurance claims and destroyed at the crusher or salvaged for parts. It was just a massive parking lot of rotting vehicles.
Would love to see this channel to an abandoned racetrack video. Texas World, North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, I'm sure there are plenty more
@@M1lesJames Rockingham is hosting a rock fest this year. Formally called Carolina Rebellion which has been at Charlotte speedway
That stadium near Chernobyl
That's where the Springfield Isotopes play sping ball.
Good pick on the Washington Colosseum, that was a historic but haunting building. Glad it joined the surrounding developing neighborhood rather than being the odd eyesore it was. Sick pics of it on the inside before the renovation!
i love this guy he just throws shade at literally everything
I only attended one event at the Houston Astrodome, and it was a religious retreat instead of a Houston Astros or Oilers game. I did get to go on the floor and stand on the pitcher's mound, which was a big deal for a 15-year old kid at the time. To this day, I've never stood on astroturf, as the turf was removed. I see the Astrodome when I go to Astros or Rockets games, as I park near NRG Stadium and take the public transportation to save a ton of money on parking.
I once got to run on the field turf of NRG Stadium during a 5K run, but it was removed during later 5K runs. I guess there were just enough people to ruin it for all of us.
original turf is really interesting - good turf usually had a thick rubber mat underneath it. the carpet was awful though, I hated doing anything athletic on it. it would swallow your ankles whole.
My high school football team was never good enough to play on astroturf. I think that was a blessing after your description.
The music made it far creepier. Well done
probably my favorite of your videos i’ve seen. nice job.
Thanks !!!
I used to go to Freedom Hall for the National Farm Machinery Show tractor pull. They’d have pullers from all over the country there and even a few people in Europe would ship their tractors over via shipping container and pull there. Maybe you can do a video on tractor pulling someday as I find it to be criminally underrated

You should have included the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut... or just any building in Bridgeport.
I'd like to see more videos like this, amd deeper into they why.
Great video.
The big problem the cities that host Olympics have is they don’t plan for after the games end. Atlanta had the right idea, after the games the main stadium easily became Turner Field where the Braves played from 1997-2016. Los Angeles is almost the perfect city for Olympics because they’ve hosted it twice (1932 & 1984) and when they host it in 2024 so many facilities are already built or easily retrofitted. Plus there’s a built-in sports culture there that keeps facilities in business
So I've been to the pyramid bass pro shops, it's actually a pretty cool place. I think it was a good alternative, attraction wise.
I went to the Astrodome Domecoming in April 2018 and the ceiling is something to see the event was to see the dome before the renovate it soon
The ceiling is iconic imo. Love it.
Very impressed, "5" with your pronunciation. Well done my man! @12:39

What about Maple Leaf Gardens? It is a mall now, but it used to be the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs and you can actually still see the centre ice dot TO THIS DAY! (Go Leafs Go)!!
How about “Worlds Most Famous Demolished Stadiums and Arenas”? Like Wembley, Yankees Stadium, Candlestick Park, The Spectrum, etc.
It’s crazy to think that there is an entire city and nobody has lived there for 35 years
Before watching this video I had a feeling you were gonna Include that abandoned stadium in Pripyat but I was still surprised
I love the Hellinikon it's a shame they've let it rot. I wish they'd transplant it in Baseball configuration at my old High School. Bunnell would get more use out of it than the Greeks ever did.
0:02 When the coliseum was built in Oakland, it was much younger than the one in Rome. Yet, both are equally ancient...

Love it. I wondered what had happened to the Astrodome after Hurricane Katrina. You don’t hear that name often.
Good video its amazing what happens to these abandoned places
On the subject of the Astrodome, don't forget WWE sold the place out in 2001 with Wrestlemania!
Ultimo Tiger possibly the best WrestleMania of all time was held there. I’ll never forget watching it on ppv.

Love your videos! Still think you should have put the Pontiac Silverdome in this video, it may not be standing, but it was an abandoned structure for nearly two decades, and is still on Google earth! Not viewable on street view but can be enjoyed on the 3D rendering, which would have been perfect for this video lol. A great vid nonetheless.
You have some of the most thick sarcasm I've ever heard! Love it! :D
+FivePoints Vids : Recap on the Huston Astrodome: She has since been made into a historic landmark. The township of Harris County has reached an agreement to renovate the iconic stadium in the amount of $105 Million.
Phoenix Memorial Colosseum? The State Fair is in it's parking lot for a few weeks a year, it's creepy inside.
Same thing with soldier field. Soldier field is very old stadium too and the Chicago bears have played there for many years too and they do not plan to abandon soldier field any time too, but soldier field has received some major renovations in the last 15 years.
This was a great video and the reference of the Miami Marlins blob in the outfield of their stadium was great!!! Thank you, new subscriber here!!!

Ahh the Astrodome.....I remember my skin feeling like it was being burnt off during a tackle by that bad astro turf. MEMORIES
6:46 The Grizzlies weren't lured to Memphis in 1995, they were lured there in 2001. 1995 was when the franchise started play (in Vancouver).
I think it would be cool if a stadium, like the Brazilian one in this video, was now used as a school, and they already had their football and soccer field in the middle of the school. They probably have a lot of rooms in it that can be used as a classroom
they tried this without success in other stadium like structures here in Brazil.
But now the stadium is not abandoned anymore. The consortium of companies that had the concession abandoned ship, but now two clubs from Rio that have a ton of history over there have took over. Not it has excessive use actually, with many problems on the playing surface due to it. Give or take, it hosts 80 games every year now, with some in consecutive days.
lol, I came for the Silverdome. . . but also because I'm subscribed.
Correction: RFK Stadium in DC was the first multi-purpose stadium built. Astrodome was only the first enclosed dome to be built.
6:15 - Interesting that you include a picture of the canoe slalom venue from the Athens games. It's still used on rare occasions, but has mostly been abandoned since 2010/11-ish. I wouldn't expect many people to know that though, just like how most people don't know canoe slalom is a thing.
Point of order: NO ONE locally called it "the Memphis Pyramid." It's original name was "The Great American Pyramid" (If you ever do a video on sports hucksters, look up Sidney Shlenker. He fleeced this city but good") Everybody just called it "The Pyramid." Hell, I didn't know "Memphis Pyramid" was a thing until I looked up the Wikipedia entry.
And then First energy stadium home to the Cleveland browns
It's just crazy that the older stadiums aren't used for something. I guess in a lot of cases the land that it's on (if in a city) has more value, but you'd think somebody could do something with them.
I stayed in the Bass Pro Shop in the Memphis Pyramid. There’s a really nice hotel that goes around the inside edge, and it was honestly a really fun time. Take your kids, they’ll love it.

I live in Houston and the astrodome was a great pride Houston had and we respect the history from it so short facts it was actually a technological wonder and the way it works and was used for a lot of things even after the astros moved to minuet made and the oilers became the titans because we used it for concerts and rodeos and such and now is in plans for a theme park and they were selling the seats from the stadium and my neighbor bought one because in Houston we know our history and why it’s important so please don’t make it seem as if it was a “disaster”

Interesting not just these stadiums, but other structures around the world that are claim to be "historical monuments". In my home town where the biggest economic distributor was brewing. The original Brew House from the 19th century was replaced with the state of the art brewery, while the original was used as a storehouse for the newer one. Ironically, the new brewery has shut down and is abandoned and being vandalized on the outside and an arsonist did some structural damage. While the old brewery is still not in use and still being maintained for its "historic significance" the "newer" one still hasn't been demolished after the damage it has endured.
