    I was knee-deep in the Dreamcast (Power Stone!) when this little gem came out. With the PS2 looming, I felt no need for it. Great design though! It reminded me of when the Genesis 3 came out. I still busted out my OG PS1 to play RE Nemesis because that was still fresh too. Great video!

      Thanks! I actually had the Genny 3 in the original video draft, where I discussed how the industry shifted into a cheaper/"pro" choice model instead of always making it consistently cheaper. I cut it from the script to keep the video and b-roll needs down.

      Makes it sound like a prototype of the PSP! ^_^

    I have 2 of these babies with the LCD Screen, it’s my number one go-to when I get the time to sit down and enjoy a game!

      It's too bad it dropped link support; 2-player versus 2-player with 2.5" screens each would have been the ultimate eye test! XD

      @@GameRaveTV See we quickly realised just that and made an extremely feeble attempt at using the Multi-tap on it for 4 Player, it went as well you think! 🤣

    I keep my PSone with LCD screen in the backseat of the car in a carrying case containing a controller, memory card, and a few select games. I've broken it out on lunch breaks on more than a few occasions. Now all I'm waiting for is the mStation ODE so I can use it to play games off an SD card. Regardless, the PSone is a fun little console and worthy of being in anyone's collection!

    Great video Jason. There were even a couple of facts about the PSone in here that I didn't know about. I never owned this version, I've always just had my original big grey PS1, but I wouldn't mind having one of these PSones some day. I've always liked the look and design of it.

      Oh I believe it, it's incredible how many modern franchises the community still sees and plays all started on the original PS1.

    Didn't everyone used to call this the psx

    • @GameRaveTV
      @GameRaveTV  Месяц назад

      Yep! With a caveat. The original big gray PlayStation goes by PSX as can this. The problem was in Japan Sony released a literal (AND FREAKING HUGE) "PSX" - a PS2 with a DVR built in that also featured the earliest version of the OS the PS3 used. So the term PSX can be used in various ways. You can catch up on the PS2 PSX here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_(digital_video_recorder)

    I used to hear people say graded collectors ruined the hobby but it’s clear those heroes lived long enough to become the villain. The hoarder-collectors have dominated RUclips with flashy backdrops of thousands of unplayed games. Nobody can play all those games, esp with so many duplicates visible. But nobody else can have them because it’s all mine, as it were. Meanwhile, UV light is deteriorating the cases. And new hobbyists have a harder and harder time getting into the market, driving the demand for digital games thru the roof. Any chance you’ll sell your large collection (hoard?) to gamers that actually want to play them? If not, why not? And how is hoarding thousands of games from new entrants to the hobby better than someone having 10 graded games on their shelf? Or even 500 or 999 graded games, even compared to the thousands held captive on your shelf? Release the games! Games are for the people! Jk. All physical games are doomed and there are statistically zero young people collecting old games these days. Over 90-95% of sales are digital. Tbh keep hoarding games. Nobody alive can be said to truly preserve them. Not even Nintendo or Sony. I’ve been selling more and more games lately because I think this is the final generation that will care for these things, aside from graded early Nintendo stuff. To each his own. I’m going to miss physical but the end is nigh.

      It's not really hoarding if I'm actually using them. :) It's hard to test codes and discover new things if I can't play the real deal on real hardware. And I do want to play them all. I've been having a blast actually getting into genres I was never into during the system's original time line. Plus I scan them in for playstationlibrary.com. If you see it on site, 99.99% means I have it.
      And there are no duplicates - in the case (literally) of the Workign Designs games, that's one of every known variant art and case. So if you see 3 Lunar boxes, that's 1 of each of the 3 disc art variants. Which I scanned and added to site. I don't have the space to hoard anything, heh.
      Oddly enough, I *have* been selling off quite a bit of my non-PlayStation libraries to help fund the next step in the channel and web-site. But that discussion is for another time. If there are less people collecting phsyical, it makes my job as an archivist, librarian, and researcher that much easier concerning PS1. When it comes to modern systems, I'm almost completely digital now. There's no point in owning a game disc that doesn't have the full game on it. Plus it keeps the living room that much cleaner.

      You're telling this to the foremost expert of PS1 on Earth who almost any piece of obscure collecting knowledge comes from, and someone who owns every PS1 game and has spent years working through and reviewing them. Ignorant comment and ironic username.
