Absolutely first class! What a weekend, it was a joy to be there. We look forward to doing it all again in the spring with even more collaborations next time, of course!
Well done guys, and especially Matt for rebuilding the Celica for the challenge. Whatever happens now, you've still got more points than the people who didn't turn up, and no-one can take that away from you...
that mini at 25.51 ......... 'Rapid' does not begin to describe it ......... the light went green and it went from 'Stationary' to 'F*cked off' in half a heartbeat
I cheated and watched this on Matt's channel as it came up in my recommended section! Still had to watch it again here though, what a fantastic idea, hope you guys all do it again and maybe next time Joseph won't pick an auto Rover lol
Yes, an automatic was not the best choice... Hopefully, I can find a manual next time. Having owned six Rovers from the 1990s and 2000s in the last ten years, I do find them dangerously appealing. We are hoping to go again in April!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I agree with you, the Rover 600 was a good car in both petrol and diesel forms, my brother in law has had 3 in the last 20 years and they're really comfortable, practical cars. I prefer the diesel's myself but see if you can hunt out a 620ti on its last legs for budget purposes for the next one.
@@graemew7001, yes, they are available for really, really low prices at the moment, despite the fact that a Rover 600 is now quite a rare car. I quite fancy an HHR 400/45 as they have a lot of manual gearboxes, are reasonably powerful for the time and are quite plentiful at the sort of money we are talking for the challenge. A 620 ti would be great, but they do have a problem with the plastic cage inside the gearbox shattering at inopportune moments... That's what happened to Ian Seabrook's car as well, even though his was the diesel. Matt from furiousdriving and I both reviewed the 620 before it went to Santa Pod, and we had a great time! The new owner seems happy with her too.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Yeah to be honest a 620ti would be an ask and you're right, Ian did have that bother with his as is common. I've seen a fair few of the 400/45's coming up for sale on Autotrader / Gumtree and Shpock in my area within budget and they always seem to be less than 100k on the clock but I'm in County Durham, a bit of a trek for you.
The sound of a Toyota engine at 8,000 rpm. Nothing like it. (Thinks) I wonder if I can get a 4A-GE in my Corolla. What silly but enjoyable fun you all had and what a shame the lights failed on that final run. Cheers.
It has to be a first for Lawrie: When something stays working and does not arrive home on a trailer or in a dustcart. Would rather have that 'thirties Chevrolet you drove in the USA. Even though the seat and I would not remain good friends for long.
i thought you were setting up a patreon page. i just looked, and it's not up yet. only a liter of fuel for 20 miles! that's around to 70 mpg. that's pretty good. my 3.5 l chrysler minivan i use as a work van gets 25 mpg. but i haul 5-600 lb. of tools usually, and it still does 0-60 in about 6-7 seconds, pedal to the floor.
Can I create a channel just to join in next year? Great video chaps. Nice job Matt, you worked wonders on that lady. Missing the water trap wasn't going to help much, was it? ... and your second run was a thing of beauty, I've never seen anyone spin their wheels for a solid 1/8th of a mile unintentionally at a drag strip. Would it count if you sold her to JM, and you know, "he" can tune it and care for it (in the LMM shed of course) until next year and you can buy it back for the same £500...
It's against the rules to enter the same car twice, sadly! We are definitely going back near year, though, just trying to set a firm date for it in the spring.
@@PhantomZore You're getting confused by the International Date Line. I'm actually the first, the others were in different time zones and, therefore, appeared to be earlier than me but, actually, were later.

Such a pity that mileage was so grim - clear winner for the other challenges! Was worth waiting for, quality vid!
love it a bunch of guys in a carpark talking about cars
New favourite channel right here 👌

Another great video, from Matt's Mechanical Marvels! 😂🤣
That's not a bad car, you know. That Rover though... 😐 😬

Technically though I've hardly touched this one... 😂
I'd have the chevy too!
Please do more of these competitions
It reminds me of top gear
I really hope Matt just keeps it, it's fantastic. The rover...
Oops indeed! Could have sworn it was good to go...
Personally we think this throws all the reaction time results out - rematch!
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels no it proves mine are even faster than light! And if anyone’s calling for a rematch let’s do the mpg with weigh bridges!
We're sure something went wrong there.
But we cannot for the life of us work out where!
I mean you saw us click it so it was full!

I'm amazed that the celica won the economy run and the drag strip, what a piece of engineering. Cheers boys, good luck for the sale.

It was a really good laugh! The other guys were super good fun too!

Lawrie. how much will it cost to ship to Canada. If you came to British Columbia Canada you could drop it off at my place.
A couple of grand I would have thought offhand without checking... That would be a fun adventure 😂
9:07 is that an AJR reference?
Edit: this is very near where I live, it’s weird to see places I recognise in video
Had a rover 620ti that would eat the celica and some , years ago...it was a turbo though.

Shame. What do the rules say about using parts that you have laying around the workshop?
Good effort by the way...
The rubbish mechanic was very good at using found and borrowed parts 😂
@@lmm, he certainly was. It showed a super amount of initiative, and it is well within the rules.

So over all what do you think car is better I reckon the Hynda lol but that's me Toyota is a nice car but Hyundai coupe looks better less miles lol.
The Hyundai rattled less (not at all in fact!) and still felt like a new car. The Toyota is a great motor but doesn't have the same fresh feel
Renault.
That's got my vote - Lawrie

Interesting you are expressing your speed in MPH, and your mileage in MPG and not in that strange KPH or KPL.
That's how we work in the UK.
