Akame Ga Kill is one of the best shows I've ever seen, it is extremely well written and it is shockingly dark, I have never cried as much in my entire life as I have watching this show, I cried for a while, cried myself to sleep the night even, you do not want to miss this one.
@@Coonish the more anime I watch the less good I think it is, it is definitely depending a lot on shock value and if it wasn't one of my very first anime I may not have enjoyed it, but I actually still think good of it, I really liked the subplot of the "good guy" realizing the people he was fighting for weren't good at all, and being confused as to what side to even fight for, it's not trash but it's not that good, still think it's worth a watch, some might like it
This is a year old video, but I would like to add Made in Abyss to the dark anime list. I've seen the 3 out of the top 4 on this list(1,2 and 4), but Made in Abyss is darker than those imo. Don't let the first part of the show fool you into think that this is just gonna be a nice little adventure.

Saw the movie after the first season and currently on season 2 now. I don’t want this one to finish but I can’t wait to start new ones especially from this list.

I absolutely agree with higashi bieng number one but I also ask are you judging by the show or the gruesome ness alone... I know it is not the darkest but if we were to judge by plot as well I would definitely put danganronpa in my top 10

Tbf, Tokyo Ghoul and Elfen Lied do that in a sense but I'd consider animes like Shinsekai Yori, Ergo Proxy, Texhnolyze or even Psycho Pass way darker than most entries on this list. Well, that is the difference between dark shounen and dark seinen I guess. Also: You listed Taboo Tattoo as Shounen and Seinen. How is that possible?
