Joe has already said his singing could be better, but I think from having no background in professional theatre performances, he is doing exceptionally well.
I saw Joe yesterday (18/9/19) and I was blown away. I knew he could sing to a degree and from Strictly we knew he could dance, but what struck me was his acting. He was a complete natural onstage and the audience loved him. From what I know (and what he’s said through vlogs), he auditioned for the role and won it fair and square, so yes it is stunt casting to an extent, but also, he’s bloody good. I was thrilled to have him as my first Ogie. ❤️
Molly Brownn I was on the upper circle, A5. Ticket said ‘slightly restricted view’ but that’s only because if you sit fully back in the seat one of the lighting rigs is just in your sight line. If you lean forward it’s a perfect view of the stage!
Joe auditioned to be on west end, yes the fact he’s quite famous helped him but he has a decent voice and had great comedic timing. That’s why he got the part.
PandaMonika well, most people on that stage have extensive training and a theater background. Considering that waitress was his first show ever, and this was super early in his run, it’s definitely not bad
I’m really impressed!! His breath control and comedic timing in this is so impressive! G’wan Jogie :) Edit: wowowow i’ve never had this many likes before! Thank you!!
I actually saw him this friday and he was great! His singing can be better but his acting overal just pulls everything together, really enjoyed it! Not regretting visiting the show while he was playing Ogie!
Guys his singing isn’t meant to be amazing he’s playing a geeky funny character so it’s not about the voice also I know joe can sing but in this he has to sing American so it’s really hard
I think Ogie is a role that works really well whenever someone who’s never had professional training plays him. It adds to the charm of him just absolutely trying his best, even if he’s not doing 100% the best
I saw him september 25th karaoke performance. He was incredible! Honestly. I never chuckled so much!he even made my.partner.chuckle which is normally hard haha xxx
It’s... just okay. I mean, considering he’s literally never had vocal training ever. He has good tone and good vowels. It’s not the most impressive thing ever. But it’s also not his fault they cast him to be fair. With a vocal coach, he actually has some pretty good foundations to work with.
This is great! But I'd love to hear his songs recorded professionally, like on a CD or something, and not recorded somewhere in the theatre. That way we can hear it clearly and hear how good he really is! So proud of Joe, proving all the haters wrong! Haha, they would not be complaining if Joe was the same, just not famous. Everyone has got to start somewhere! 😂

It’s joes first week he has potential, he’s putting on an ogie accent and running around the stage whilst doing this. He’s getting hated on only because he’s popular when he’s acc really good
I saw him on the 19th of October and he was utterly brilliant. He has a wonderful ability and he lights up the stage. He gets on so well with the cast off and on stage plus the audience just loved his performance. I look forward to his next part. Wonderful.
I saw him play ogie on tuesday and I wasn’t a great fan of his singing but it was definitely not bad! I was very impressed with him tbh. his acting was absolutely brilliant!
Definitely the best youtube casting so far but this is one trend that needs to stop before it gets started. All this does is make a mockery of prestigious stages like Broadway & West End. Joe's the only one I could actually sit through without cringing my face off.
@@imnotacat3798 Very little can make me cringe as hard as a certain Dawn from Waitress made me. I’ve seen Waitress on Broadway twice with two different Ogies and I can tell you for sure Joe is up there now with Noah Galvin for me
I saw him in it about a week ago (its not that expensive really, I payed about £45 and was in row G of the stalls) his singing was slightly painful at times but his acting and characterisation made it bearable. I wasnt happy about the casting and went in expecting him to be awful but he was actually quite a good fit for the character, I was pleasantly surprised.
Firstly, I'd like to clarify that I am not a hater of Joe, and I do think he is talented. He can act, and dance extremely well, the problem I have is with his vocals. I don't need to be lectured about him not having vocal training, I'm aware of that, but is it really a good idea to give a role to someone in a *musical* if they haven't had vocal training. The things I don't particularly are the lack of vibrato in his vocals, and the strain that you can hear when he goes for the higher notes - Like I don't enjoy when he does straight tone on the word "right" , because that coupled with the strain in his voice due to the high note, doesn't sit well with me. I also don't like when he cuts notes shorter, it just doesn't fit well with the flow of the song.
