India no.1 D. Gukesh drew his first game at the Qatar Masters 2023 against IM Nubairshah Shaikh. In the 2nd round he was up against another IM from India - the 2004 born Avinash Ramesh. Is the travel expenses of all chess players funded by some sponsors?

All the GMs and selected IMs have sponsors. Like pragg is sponsored by Indian Oil. But only a few tournaments are covered. Most of the times players are on their own.
