1:00 OBJECTION! Palpatine did NOT blow up Alderaan! The Radio Drama adaptation (which would be a lower form of G-Canon = canon in places that don't contradict the films) established that Vader protested Tarkin's use of the Death Star without the Emperor's approval, and was rebuked by Tarkin. The Alderaan Tragedy was on Tarkin's megalomania, and was condemned by the Emperor.
There are clues in legends that say Palpy knew about the Vong, but no details other than they existed and were coming to invade. It wasn't Thrawn that told him about them though. It was Jorus C'baoth who commissioned Outbound Flight because he had a premonition about extra-galactic invaders.
The more I learn about the Sith, jedi, dark side and light side, the more i realize the force is not biased to one or the other. It truly wants balance and uses both sides equally. If it wasn't for the Sith rising over the Jedi, then the Galaxy would not have been prepared for greater threats
Wow, that really changed my perspective on Palpatine. Even though he was a Sith and enforced his rule he did it with a greater goal in mind. Not that excuses any of his actions.
Alderaan should have been invaded instead of getting blown up. However Bail Organa definitely turned a blind eye towards Rebel super weapons on his planet while pretending to be peaceful
The Empire is necessary evil. Even if you cut the Vong out of the picture, the galactic senate was full of factions who simply took advantage of both the Republic and the Jedi for their own ends. Selfishness ruled the galaxy. The Empire bent these factions on their knee and turned the galaxy towards a new goal of order and strength.
The Empire was an authoritarian nightmare. It was run by the Elite for the Elite like the Republic only they didn't even pretend to care about freedom.
@@ccsk6548 The elite usually get choked to death by Vader or electrocuted by the Emperor if they don't perform their jobs well. It was a meritocracy where a nobody can become big if they do their job.

Self-preservation and altruism are not mutually exclusive principles. Palpatine was and is still exactly the monster he appears to be, but he was also extremely intelligent and forward-thinking, it's how he got to the position of Emperor in the first place. Like Julius Caesar, he identified a sick and fragile system that just needed a bit of war and a smart leader to take the reins and clear out the gunk. The difference is that Julius Caesar wasn't pure evil, and though he wanted power, his rule was buttressed by a strong sense of nationalism for his countrymen, so when he HAD that power, he executed policies that helped people and were well beloved BY the people. Palpatine's just a fuckin' dick and he executed repressive and harsh policies that restricted freedom for the sake of keeping his newly created empire in one piece.
#1. The rebels were terrorists . #2. The jedi were religious zealots that tried to assassinate the Supreme Chancellor. #3. The jedi planned on taking over the Republic after they assassinated Palpatine . #4. Luke Skywalker murdered over a million loyal Imperials that were serving their government when he blew up the Death Star . #5. The head of the rebellion was one of the corrupt senators that led to the death of the Republic.
In prequel trilogy Palpatine only pursued his selfish goals, such as becoming the emperor. There is no good in him. He and his master killed millions of lives by orchestrating the clone war. Sure, the Jedi order also had lost their way but they were not evil, just dogmatic and a bit arrogant.
Arrogant and selfish bro. They always believe they were the good guys and the justice guys but everywhere they went they almost always end up loosing all battles they face and things such as crime families, slavery etc..they let it slide cause they were focusing too much the war, and the war only effect then and those who need their help, they would always say "may the force be with you" or "this is not the jedi way". From my point of view, what Emperor Palpatine did, was the most right thing to do. Jedi rules were a lost cause to the galaxy. So they were arrogant, dogmatic and selfish
Come on nobody is perfect, jedi had their flaws but no Jedi had bad intentions like using political schemes to destroy a republic and install a one man dictatorship and killing innocent people like pawns. Jedi were no gods lmao. They were a limited number of people with limited power. How they were supposed to end all the crime, slavery etc in the galaxy. As we see like in the battle of genosis, a lot of Jedi died against droids. They are not invincible by any means.
@@alpd5329 hahaha i loved the last comment you made. However. Jedi should even had lead the clones into war if they were thinking straight in the first place. It is true that no one is perfect, but the jedi hypocrisy was their true doom. They lost their way long before the clone wars started. Peace comes with a cost. Sometimes its necessary to take risks to obtain victory. Just like Ahsoka did when raiding Mandalore, that wasnt the jedi way, but those people need help whatever the cost was. Even if the invasion was wrong. Back to the main topic, it is because of their limited vision on the galaxy they could not protect allies worlds when these were threaten (not all jedi were Anakin or Obi wan) and they lack of the military experience made them softer and easy to he destroy. They cannot be called peacekeepers if their peace meaning is to stay away from fights and injustice. They are not peacekeepers, they are arrogants and blind.

The man was a power hungry psychopath and a literal analogue for Satan. The fuck is this nonsense that Palpatine "ran the Galaxy better"? The Jedi may have neglected slavers and crimelords, but Sheev actively allied with crime lords and mandated slavery throughout the Empire. How do you think he built his superweapons? With unionized labour? Why do you think the Empire allied itself with the Zygerrians and the Hutts? Because they appreciated their architecture and cuisine? If your argument is "the cops aren't doing enough to tackle organized crime" you don't get to then turn around and tell me that Al Capone was a great guy. If galen marek or his clone had been in the new jedi order series either one would have been an a valuable ally to the new jedi and the republic considering how powerful he was with the light and dark sides of the force. As for palpatine i'd say that even if he had survived and defeated the vong he would only be doing so for his own benefit in other words he would save the galaxy to secure his own power. Still i do agree that he could have prevented so many people from dying in the yuuzhan vong war. However palpatine had plans to conquer other galaxies and who knows how many people in those other galaxies would die in that conquest.
Palpatine was just letting his fear of the Jedi cloud his judgement and it led him to the dark side. That's what I thought of when I read the title of this video.
It was actually Jedi Master Luke Skywalker that had remarked "Had the Republic still had the "Galaxy Gun" they would have stood a better chance battling the Vong". The Galaxy Gun (Warning: These are from SW Legends and NON canocal). The Galaxy Gun basically was an immense hyperspace capable mobile gun platform that was able to launch a very special type of Proton Torpedo that could bypass the limits of hyperspace. (Perhaps early sub hyperspace research) to send the torpedo to any planet in the SW galaxy in a matter of minutes to perhaps a few hours and decimate the planet or even star with a warhead powerful enough to "shift" the planet or stars material into the quantum realm. A truly nasty bit of engineering. Later we saw a perhaps canocal version of this gun in The Force Awakens that sent a beam of energy (not a torpedo) to planets possibly thousands of light years away and destroy them. Starkiller Base would have also been an incredible weapon against the Vong. And we werent told if the base could achieve hyperspace itself.
Edit: So basically if the SW Galaxy didn't have Palpatine's research and scientists like Galen Erso (before betrayal) they would have not only lost to the Vong, but also been blasted back to their pre hyperspace times.
SW viewers: "When I first heard of Palpatine, I thought that he was an evil Sith overlord who wanted nothing more than to rules the galaxy, destroy all of the Jedi, execute Order 66, brainwash and torture force-sensitive children into serving him, destroy planets that oppose his rule, and snuff out any form of rebellion." Vader's Fortress: "...aaaaaaaaand?" SW viewers: "And he is."
'Watchmen' explores the same moral conundrum with Ozymandias representing the consequentialist philosophy and Rorschach representing the relatively Jedi-like deontologist philosophy.
Ask any non-human or person living in the Outer Rim about life in the Empire. There had to have been better ways to prepare for invasion besides creating a horrible empire for most of the galaxy’s population. Even when the Republic had the clone army, it still kept many morals alive as the Clone Wars raged on. And Palpatine never told the public about the invaders even after becoming emperor to justify his empire. There may be a few points the Empire makes about democracy being corrupt, but it did few things to convince people it was better besides bringing order at the cost of freedom. You need a balance, not one more than the other. And this is so far only for Legends, so does he have some other justification in canon or is he sci-fi Hitler to the core?
What you're also forgetting is that the republic basically had no actual power over a big part of the outer rim. Lots of worlds in the hands of crime families etc. Also lots of planets in the outer rim joined the CIS. The empire was more oppressive there for these reasons which in turn got more resistance going. It became a vicious circle.
More importantly than them being not very effective against the Vong, the Jedi, despite their claims of peacefulness, were very much interventionist when a government not to their liking ruled the Galaxy, and even took over the remains of the Republic for about a millenium following the first New Sith War. THEY would intervene with lightsabers the moment a Jedi Grandmaster decided that the Star Destroyers / Death Star was too much. They HAD to be removed to conserve the military machine through the years until the possible Vong invasion. ANOTHER rarely seen, but powerful force, the Caamasi, have also been a shadow player inside the Republic, responsible for toppling down the chancellors they didn't like (in fact, it was the Caamasi-Jedi coup that toppled the Pius Dea regime after its final expansion). It's no wonder that the creation of the Empire necessitated the destruction of the Jedi and the crippling of Caamas for Palpatine.
Let us not forget who ordered the mass genocide of jedi younglings, or planets in fact. No , palpatine was undeniably the villain, he only built his navy to spread fear. And even if it was to fight outside invaders, everything would be at his benefit anyway. He lusted power and was uncaring of who he killed to get it, be they innocent or not.
To everyone saying palaptine was Purley selfish and wanted the galaxy all to himself and rule it forever prove it because if that was the case why did he want vader to become stronger than him and take his place and make the new generation of sith stronger . If he really wanted power all for himself he wouldn't want to vader suprass him and take the thrown.
It's just what I tell since many years. 😂😂😂 Finally someone who helped my Argumentation. 😁👌 Thanks a lot! Ahh including the jedi thing. They would have been a constant threat to him, because Jedi hate Sith their existence. (Because they are extremely dangerous indeed). They wouldn't send him to court, even if he did literally nothing wrong. But the potential danger would be enough to simply kill him. 🤷 Also, with him, being a Sith, he is in the historic duty to take revenge against the Jedi because of the Holocaust they did against the Sith thousands of years ago. 🤷 They also have the prophecy of one that brings back the balance. But balance isn't 10 thousand against two. 🧐 So... Some guys must simply go and since thousands of years, the Jedi where pretty lame at their own chosen job. 🤔 I mean.. just ask Qui Gon or Count Doku, how well Jedi are choosing to solve problems and help people who need them. 💁🏻 I haven't seen a Jedi running a bakery. But they are well feed and own hundreds of giant temples. Weird if they just own clothes and sword. 🤔 But check out the galaxy map and ask your self, why it isn't hard to find slavery not only outside of the galaxy. ☺️

Personally, I’ve always viewed Palpatine as an anti-hero. Also Lucas confirmed he thought he was in the right. “One of the issues in all of this, is that the bad guys think they're good, and Lord Sidious thinks he's bringing peace to the galaxy, because there's so much corruption and confusion and chaos going on, and that now he's going to be able to straighten everything out, which may be true, but the price the galaxy's going to have to pay for it is way too much.” __ George Lucas__ Revenge of the Sith Commentary
Anti - *villain* ...... Annnnnd.... No . He was absolutely, an unapologetically *EVILLLLLLL* ASF, Villain... *And you just wanted to kick his ass more....* Every step of the way.
Even assuming everything in this video is true, I still say Palpatine was a villain. Sure, he could have saved the whole galaxy from the Vong, but he would have abused the Empire's military machine and ruled with an iron fist. Of course, the interesting thing about power is that you usually stop being a good guy once you have enough of it.
Palpatine couldn't have cared less for the people of the Galaxy. He would happily let the Vong massacre the outer rim if he thought it would increase his power. He's a Sith his literal only goal in life is increasing his power. People who think the Sith and Empire did no wrong are the embodiment of you missed the point by admiring them.
My ideal lightsaber would be mace windu’s lightsaber. I feel like as one of the few main black characters in stars it always gave me someone I could see myself in when I was younger look up to. he is portrayed as powerful, intelligent and has a dark side that that he controls with discipline. #giveaway #myfirstsaber #macewindu.
Well.... To be the devil's advocate.... It was not Palpatine who destroyed Alderaan. It was Tarkin. If you order a nuclear bomb and someone use it to destroy a city, are you to blame for it?
Bane created the version of the Sith order which allowed Palpatine to achieve his goals so he is just as instrumental in saving the galaxy from the Vong. Remember it was the ancient Sith that helped saved the galaxy from another brutal race of conquerors the Rakata and their vast infinite Empire. So perhaps the Sith are just misunderstood over all.
To be honest that's actually a good question is Palpatine evil or corrupted and did he himself view himself as evil or believed he was actually protecting the natural order of things, and I think that's actually a huge mistake people make, when judging Palpatine's character but in my opinion Palpatine actually does have some good in him, there are times when he shows general concerns or even traces of possessiveness and it would actually make sense, because darkness feeds on fear and grudges, and for that to occurre Palpatine must had sincerely believed that Jedi were in the wrong, felt betrayed and afraid, and he would not have felt that if he was fully evil and agent of darkness. I believe if Palpatine would be fully evil he would not care about being in charge and controlling people but rather he truly believed that only through total control and forceful guidance of the strong the weak can enjoy peace and prosperity and for that reason he wanted to establish the society that ruthlessly enforced the laws favoring the strong that were capable to lead over the weak that were to be lead.
Our beloved Emperor , Sheeve Palpatine knew that he was a superior being and that the lesser....... inferior beings of the galaxy wanted and needed him to rule them. They were intellectually incapable of running their own lives , and would have been slaughtered when the Vong arrived.
I do think that this explains more what Palpatine did and why but doesn't justify it
There are clues in legends that say Palpy knew about the Vong, but no details other than they existed and were coming to invade. It wasn't Thrawn that told him about them though. It was Jorus C'baoth who commissioned Outbound Flight because he had a premonition about extra-galactic invaders.
Thrawn later confirmed it to Palps.
Palpatine was based. He knew that the Rebel Alliance would lead to a degenerate society.
This is presented so well
I bet kreia would fall in love with the Vong, they can't feel the Force.
The more I learn about the Sith, jedi, dark side and light side, the more i realize the force is not biased to one or the other. It truly wants balance and uses both sides equally. If it wasn't for the Sith rising over the Jedi, then the Galaxy would not have been prepared for greater threats
team sith all day everyday.
We ARE the Sith!!!
Prefer Dark Jedi before Lucas ruined it. 😅
You gotta be kidding me right?
Wow, that really changed my perspective on Palpatine. Even
though he was a Sith and enforced his rule he did it with a greater goal in mind. Not that
excuses any of his actions.
Nah, he just wanted to rule and couldn't do that if the galaxy was destroyed.
@@grimlord3181 good point.🤔
Alderaan should have been invaded instead of getting blown up. However Bail Organa definitely turned a blind eye towards Rebel super weapons on his planet while pretending to be peaceful
It was more fun to blow it up
We cannot tolorate with "factory" of terrrorrsit organization
I've tried to argue this same point. I can't say I am convinced, however I the fact that videos like this exist and can be made show how good a lore star wars has.
i’ve heard this argument before and it’s a legends retcon.
palpatine only had is own self interest in mind, and he was wise enough to know a strong enviorment is good for him
Self-preservation and altruism are not mutually exclusive principles.
Totally unbiased xD
This is now the non canon reason for the Death Star. It was to be used against the extra galactic invaders as a defensive weapon.
Palpatine was so selfish he even screams "POWAAA UNLIMITED POWAAA"
Gaining power was his only drive
@@mistergasparazzi2356 "Arrogant and Selfish"
Palpatine built a planet killing superlaser and then immediately sicced it on the Galaxy. And then he tried to do it again. And then he tried to do it a third time after coming back from the dead. In both Canon and Legends. And this isn't even counting the worlds upon worlds he senselessly exterminated.
What the fuck are you on about that "the Jedi were arrogant". I'd rather arrogant than literally psychotic. The mental gymnastics required to give this argument any weight whatsoever are absurd.
I would not go as far as saying Palpatine was a good guy, his actions are just too horrible. But I like the way of thinking about him as the one misunderstood guy that actually knew about the threat the galaxy would have to face.
You would say if the Jedi took over than it would’ve been worse?
Wouldn't call him "misunderstood" either.
Palpatine and the Emperor of mankind from Warhammer 40k sound so similar that they could easily be best buds.
On a serious note, people use the Vong as a crutch for Palpatine and the Empire
Every regime uses outside threats to justify their immoral actions, no matter what flavor of ideology.
Even without them Palpatine was the good guy.
Palpatine was always my favorite character performed by great Ian McDiarmid 😊👍
Nice guy Palpatine, Great take. Would’ve been great if they used the Vong and outer rim as the premise for the sequel trilogy
I can not believe You could say that. You were supposed to destroy the Sith not join them! To bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!
There is both pros and cons from both sides. Im team jedi but I still believe the jedi werent always right and did have a lot of flaws. Only if they could have come to some agreement or treaty
I love these sort of videos lol.
As for the question at the end... He was an evil maniac, but had some redeeming qualities (at least in Legends, in the movies hew had zero).
What redeeming qualities did he have in Legends?
@@grimlord3181 Almost none, the only one off the top of my head was he was preparing the galaxy for the Yuuzhan Vong, but I threw the comment out there since I knew there would be that one "Well ackshually..." guy.
This is basically a big Star Wars answer to the Trolley Problem … and not one I’d agree with.
Lmao jedi sympetizer George Lucas 😄
If galen marek or his clone had been in the new jedi order series either one would have been an a valuable ally to the new jedi and the republic considering how powerful he was with the light and dark sides of the force.
As for palpatine i'd say that even if he had survived and defeated the vong he would only be doing so for his own benefit in other words he would save the galaxy to secure his own power. Still i do agree that he could have prevented so many people from dying in the yuuzhan vong war.
However palpatine had plans to conquer other galaxies and who knows how many people in those other galaxies would die in that conquest.
HeyLook. Palps mghta been a little iffy on the morality scale but the man made the BEST refreshments! OH YEAAAHHH!
Palpatine was just letting his fear of the Jedi cloud his judgement and it led him to the dark side. That's what I thought of when I read the title of this video.
But he was always on the Dark Side.
I will never quit I will never give in, I need the COUNT DOOKU LIGHTSABER
There are villains and heros on both sides.
Emperor Palpatine was not only a good guy, but he had a great sense of humor (unlike the terrorist Jedi fundamentalists).
SW viewers: "When I first heard of Palpatine, I thought that he was an evil Sith overlord who wanted nothing more than to rules the galaxy, destroy all of the Jedi, execute Order 66, brainwash and torture force-sensitive children into serving him, destroy planets that oppose his rule, and snuff out any form of rebellion."
Vader's Fortress: "...aaaaaaaaand?"
SW viewers: "And he is."
While I can understand Palpatine’s motivation, I don’t agree with his methods to save the galaxy.
It was always a point of view. Palpatine new the Republic was far too weak to deal with the Yuzung Vong.
COMPNOR approved 💪🏻🗿👍🏻.
The Yuuzhan Vong somehow made me remember Defense Grid
'Watchmen' explores the same moral conundrum with Ozymandias representing the consequentialist philosophy and Rorschach representing the relatively Jedi-like deontologist philosophy.
He single handedly unite the galaxy
I had hoped that the sequel trilogy would have done the Yuuzhan Vong but we got 💩. Man it could have been awesome sauce 🙄…
The Zila episode make extremely more sense now
Ask any non-human or person living in the Outer Rim about life in the Empire.
Palpatine brought more stability to the galaxy. Republic's hands aren't clean and led to more chaos.
Okay first of all Palpatine didn’t expect tarkin to destroy Alderaan with the Death Star. 1:00
That intro felt generation tech
The God Emperor Leto II also wanted safety & peace for his subjects as well and it took him 3500+ years to accomplish this mandate.
Well done
What is the purpose of Operation Cinder if Palpatine’s purpose was to defend the galaxy from the Vong?
Operation Cinder was a stupid idea from Disney
It's just what I tell since many years. 😂😂😂
Finally someone who helped my Argumentation.
Also, with him, being a Sith, he is in the historic duty to take revenge against the Jedi because of the Holocaust they did against the Sith thousands of years ago. 🤷
They also have the prophecy of one that brings back the balance.
But balance isn't 10 thousand against two. 🧐
So... Some guys must simply go and since thousands of years, the Jedi where pretty lame at their own chosen job. 🤔
I mean.. just ask Qui Gon or Count Doku, how well Jedi are choosing to solve problems and help people who need them. 💁🏻
I haven't seen a Jedi running a bakery. But they are well feed and own hundreds of giant temples. Weird if they just own clothes and sword. 🤔
But check out the galaxy map and ask your self, why it isn't hard to find slavery not only outside of the galaxy. ☺️
I all ways like Palpatine lol strong great public speaker and guaranteed security through out the galaxy and beyond......long live the empire
For a while, I'm been meaning to get a mug glazed with "Emperor Palpatine did nothing wrong!"
Borsk Fey’lya was a dingleberry
How did the common people feel about living under a repressive Sith regime? It seems nobody ever asked them about it.
How is it living under a fucking anarchy rebel regime or corrupt monarchy?
Literally you're either be poor as fucking dirt and live in cave or you'll be smuggling stuff, do ancap kinda shit or join to the "rebel army" and fight against order holding galactic empire. Or join to one of countless gangs that kinda just rule on uncontrolled by Empire planets.
Unified militaristic Galactic Empire provides it's people with stability and protection, with prospects of better future in comparision to what they had (stagnation).
They didn't know about the Sith.
eVERYONE IS prosperous under Palpatine. Down with the Rebellion
I was hoping that the date of the video was April 1st, would’ve made it funnier.
Personally, I’ve always viewed Palpatine as an anti-hero. Also Lucas confirmed he thought he was in the right.
“One of the issues in all of this, is that the bad guys think they're good, and Lord Sidious thinks he's bringing peace to the galaxy, because there's so much corruption and confusion and chaos going on, and that now he's going to be able to straighten everything out, which may be true, but the price the galaxy's going to have to pay for it is way too much.”

Anti - *villain* ...... Annnnnd.... No . He was absolutely, an unapologetically *EVILLLLLLL* ASF,
Villain...
*And you just wanted to kick his ass more....*
Every step of the way.
No longer canon. So therefore, just evil.
Legend palpatine was a very complex villain.
Finally someone understands me
LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR
the deathstar mite have also been made to be produced on a larger scale to combat the world ships of the Vong
He did new about the vong. him and thrawn new it was stated in the book outbound flight. That he new about the invasion possible coming.
Knew*
hes a great man i hear hes a peaceloving warlord
Even assuming everything in this video is true, I still say Palpatine was a villain. Sure, he could have saved the whole galaxy from the Vong, but he would have abused the Empire's military machine and ruled with an iron fist. Of course, the interesting thing about power is that you usually stop being a good guy once you have enough of it.
Name one thing that the Empire did that wasn't justified. (No Disney Star Wars allowed)
You can save the galaxy AND be an evil maniac at the same time ;)
Palpatine couldn't have cared less for the people of the Galaxy.
Mace: "AM STILL ALIVE MOTHER FUCKER"
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Well....
To be the devil's advocate....
It was not Palpatine who destroyed Alderaan.
It was Tarkin.
If you order a nuclear bomb and someone use it to destroy a city, are you to blame for it?
Aldaran never happened, but it should have.
Wasn't he trying to stop the Yukon slov or w.e they are called?
Damn am I seriously debating whether or not Palpatine was the good guy?
He's not.
No one is good but he brought more stability than the Jedi/Republic
I think Palpatine forced him to post this
RUclipsrs: "Palpatine created the empire to protect the Galaxy against the Yuuzhan Vong"
Darth Bane and the Rule of Two Sith: "Are we a joke to you?"
Nah, he was pure evil as he should be.
He was a maniac for a reason to be a maniac
Our beloved Emperor , Sheeve Palpatine knew that he was a superior being and that the lesser....... inferior beings of the galaxy wanted and needed him to rule them.
They were intellectually incapable of running their own lives , and would have been slaughtered when the Vong arrived.
So he selflessly put his own needle aside and was there for them , until a traitorous terrorist killed him .
The death star created millions of jobs
Palpatine only wanted them gone as they were a threat to his empire. He never cared for the safety of anyone else.
