Great people like Radney have come out of Del Rio, TX. :-) I listen to this often and think about all the memories growing up in Del Rio with Radney's mother as my Elementary School Principal. She promoted music to all of us kids and was a special lady.
I had the pleasure of seeing Radney perform this live as part of SXSW a few years ago. I have always been a fan, but his performance at a little beer garden and restaurant in Austin was very memorable.
Rodney and Bobby Houck deserve way more song writing attention then they do. When you listen to this song, it’s about you. Perfectly written , everyone relates.
Half of my mistakes, I made stone-cold sober Half of my mistakes, I made at closing time Half the time, I never saw it coming till it was over Oh, half of my mistakes, I've made with love on the line Half of my mistakes, I swear, I shoulda known better Half of my mistakes, were just amongst friends You get a little distance on it, the truth is clearer Oh, half of my mistakes, I'd probably make em again And if I had it all to do over Sure I'd win an' lose just as much But spend less time on right and wrong And a lot more time on love Half of my mistakes, I made cause I was moving too quickly Half of them were made cause my heart was moving too slow Nobody can tell you a damn thing if you ain't listening Oh, half of my mistakes, I've made cause I couldn't let go (Let it go) And if I had it all to do over Sure I'd win and lose just as much But spend less time on right and wrong And a lot more time on love Half of my mistakes, I'd give anything to change how it ended Half of my mistakes, God, I wouldn't change a thing You can lean too hard on a thread, but I don't recommend it Cause half the good things in my life came from half my mistakes Yeah, a lot of good things in my life came from half my mistakes
Been a fan of him since way back in the days with Bill Lloyd. His Del Rio Texas CD was great! I still do some of his material in my sets. Used to get a crowd going with "Crazy Over You"
Found this song about 5 years ago says it all about the truth of what we've all been through in love and life it's one of my best and I've heard a lot for an old man at 63
This is my song..is describes the journey my life started back in 2007. Half of my mistakes I made because I couldn't let go...oh but I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for recording this..I needed to hear it today as a reminder that half of the good things in my life came from half of my mistakes.
This song represents the true story of my life... Had the pleasure of seeing Radney and Jack Ingram at Joe's Pub in NY last Winter with the love of my life. A magical night. Mistakes are what define us all. Not the triumphs.
I am so excited to see him on Saturday at The Franklin Theater in Tennessee...He is an icon in songwriting and plus this homesick Texan needs a fix! Thanks for posting. :)
Radney's lyrics are wonderful…I'm a "yin/yang" kinda person ..i.e. you can't appreciate the sun unless you have some rain etc..this is a perfect example to that concept ..
Sitting here with my Maker's Mark on ice listening to one of the best songwriter/singer combos. I'd put my money on Radney any day to move a heart. Son, he's got soul deep down in his music
Damn ...country music is like an onion there are so many great artists with minimal or no air play I add this guy to my list ,,hell the country station in Barrie Orillia (Ontario Canada) area has nothing on this , or john hiatt Gary Allan does this well...any other great unkowns out there
Thanks for the info man. Trying to relearn the guitar after a 45 year absence. This helps a lot. Radney has always been my favorite songwriter/player/singer. Cheers!
Jonathan Rodriguez That's a pretty terrible comparison, Radney is light years ahead of both of them lyrically. Im not saying I dislike either of them but they are both pretty poppy.
+Jonathan Rodriguez Bad comparison. Radney...he's just in a class of his own. I don't know how he ever fell out of main stream country...such a unique voice and great talent.

Our son lives in Del Rio
Country music doesn't get much better than this.
Radney, you freaking rock! You are one of the best songwriters ever. Thanks for all you do.
I had the pleasure of seeing Radney perform this live as part of SXSW a few years ago. I have always been a fan, but his performance at a little beer garden and restaurant in Austin was very memorable.
Radney is such a great songwriter. I love that guy.
Think I'll go out and buy a Radney Foster CD this weekend. He deserves my support.
amen
He’s awesome and a super nice guy. I’ve met him several times over the past 30 years and he has always been so kind.
Thank you. Thank you for writing this song.

Half of my mistakes, I made stone-cold sober
Half of my mistakes, I made at closing time
Half the time, I never saw it coming till it was over
Oh, half of my mistakes, I've made with love on the line
Half of my mistakes, I swear, I shoulda known better
Half of my mistakes, were just amongst friends
You get a little distance on it, the truth is clearer
Oh, half of my mistakes, I'd probably make em again
And if I had it all to do over
Sure I'd win an' lose just as much
But spend less time on right and wrong
And a lot more time on love
Half of my mistakes, I made cause I was moving too quickly
Half of them were made cause my heart was moving too slow
Nobody can tell you a damn thing if you ain't listening
Oh, half of my mistakes, I've made cause I couldn't let go
(Let it go)
And if I had it all to do over
Sure I'd win and lose just as much
But spend less time on right and wrong
And a lot more time on love
Half of my mistakes, I'd give anything to change how it ended
Half of my mistakes, God, I wouldn't change a thing
You can lean too hard on a thread, but I don't recommend it
Cause half the good things in my life came from half my mistakes
Yeah, a lot of good things in my life came from half my mistakes
Thanks! Just 1 correction: "You can lean too hard on regret."
This song just makes me feel good every time I listen to it ... and I listen to it a lot.
I can’t get enough of this song, man.
That song is nothing short of amazing
Who in their right mind would dislike this. Been a huge Radney Foster fan from the beginning. Great song writer and performer.
The incomparable Radney Foster
Love this. Fits pretty much all of us who have lived life to the fullest, and ya, made a few of those mistakes...
Been a fan of him since way back in the days with Bill Lloyd. His Del Rio Texas CD was great! I still do some of his material in my sets. Used to get a crowd going with "Crazy Over You"
gosh.. nothing like getting old..
Really nothing like it!! We are the fortunate ones.
Some very interesting and wonderful songs are coming from this man. I like him!
Man, I love this song.
what a great song... and true. I think most new country music has come to a Dead End on their talent and their hearts in songs.

Thanx for posting. Really enjoyed this one. Great title and concept for lyrics, I also liked the open tuning sound.
Radney's lyrics are wonderful…I'm a "yin/yang" kinda person ..i.e. you can't appreciate the sun unless you have some rain etc..this is a perfect example to that concept ..
William Davis
A good ole TX boy! Man I like this song and Angel Flight remix that he sings!

Damn ...country music is like an onion there are so many great artists with minimal or no air play I add this guy to my list ,,hell the country station in Barrie Orillia (Ontario Canada) area has nothing on this , or john hiatt Gary Allan does this well...any other great unkowns out there
ONLY HALF MY MISTAKES, I WISH !!
Awesome sound. Anybody know what tune his guitar is in? Really like the open sound.
Daniel Ray I have been told that it is in DADGBD tuning, also known as double dropped D tuning with a capo at the third fret.
He sounds alot like Jason Aldean, except with talent.
Kyle Scott you mean Jason sounds like Randy Foster
Or pretends or just tries to sound like Radney.
Dude was putting out hits when parts of Aldean were still a stain in a tube sock
This made me lol I love it
The song was written by Bobby Houck of the "Blue Dogs" ... Radney does it justice.
Actually it was the idea of Bobby Houck that Radney wrote the song for. thats why Bobby got songwriting credits with Radney. Look it up.
Yeah buddy
Truth.
The amount of truth to this song should make you go go home and hug your family!!
Wheres Lloyd?
He's playing double drop D - DADGBD
Thanks for the info man. Trying to relearn the guitar after a 45 year absence. This helps a lot. Radney has always been my favorite songwriter/player/singer. Cheers!
Gary Allan has a great version of this too.
Tuning appears to be DADGAD capped on third. I could be making half a mistake...
DADGBD
Of course he's from Del Rio :)
my whole familys song
He's like a mixture of jerrod Nieman and Blake Shelton. Great song
Jonathan Rodriguez That's a pretty terrible comparison, Radney is light years ahead of both of them lyrically. Im not saying I dislike either of them but they are both pretty poppy.
Very poor comparison, that's an insult.
+Jonathan Rodriguez Bad comparison. Radney...he's just in a class of his own. I don't know how he ever fell out of main stream country...such a unique voice and great talent.
+Jonathan Rodriguez Radney Foster was writing classic timeless country songs while Blake Shelton was still draggin' on his mama's tit.
+aldeargolf Good1...roflmao
:-)
And here's another she don't love you
.v
Gary Allan blows this out of the water..
