Not sure on dimensions but everything else is listed on Fish.Shimano.com fish.shimano.com/en-US/product/reels/conventional/leverdrag/a071000001mvko6aap.html
Hi. I just purchased 2 x new 8’s. Can you provide me any good links that explains when and how to use the lever drag? I was a very keen angler of the ABU overhead reel in my youth (1980), which had a star drag… So I’m new to the lever drag system… Cameron
Hi JP I didn't know where to put this but has Shimano ever considered a PG version of the Trinidad for bottom fishing as well? People who want a higher end reel with more drag than than an Ocea. Thanks
For grouper I would go to the Speedmaster 12 because it has more stopping power for those hard pulling fish. For the rod, something heavy power like a 6’6” - 7’0” Terez XX or Teramar XX or PX depending on your budget will get work done for you!
For reference i use a Speedmaster 12 for veritical/speed jigging bluefin and yellowfin tuna in the 50-80 lb range. It has no problem with these class fish.
Considering picking one of these up for inshore/surf fishing. I know its overkill but I am struggling with finding a conventional reel for this application. I am aware most people use spinning reels for surf fishing, but I prefer baitcaster/conventional reels. I also do plan to use this reel for some occasional offshore fishing, but I mainly fish the surf. Any thoughts of if it would be a good idea to pick up a speedmaster for mainly fishing from the beach, piers, and jetties? Why/why not? Also, does anyone have any recommendations on better options? Thanks in advance!
The only downfall to the 8 & 10 is the lighter drag but we handle yellowfin up to 80 lbs on a Tranx 400 which has a little less drag than these. They also have more line capacity so it shouldn’t be an issue
@JP DeRose much appreciated, would you rather go a 12 other than a 8 or 10. Would you say the size difference is a lot more from the 8/10 to the 12? I have a torium 20 would the 12 be around that size or smaller?
The line capacity they mention is BS! I only got 275yds of 50# powerpro braid on the size 8 reel. Why the hell are they advertising 100yds more than it can fit? I went to one of the most reputable shops in North SD to get it spooled as well.
That 10 size is perfect for snapper in bottom fishing! I bought the Talica 10ii because the speedmaster 10 didn’t exist.
You mention that one can hold the 8 in your hand, is there somewhere I can see the actual size in comparison to a hand?
Sounds like a perfect reel for the big brutes !
10 vs 8 - what are the differences in width and weight between both reels?

Tackle warehouse lists the Speedmaster 8 as $230. Can you comment on the pricing vs the other Speedmaster models that are much less expensive?
Sorry, I quoted Canadian pricing!
Great news! Can you tell us the us pricing?

The only PG series I’m aware of, outside of all the 2 speed reels is the Torium PG and I believe there are 3 sizes/models
Which speedmaster should I buy for: bottom fishing and jigging red snapper and grouper.
And which rod to match the reel??
Thanks

How’s the free spool for flylining live bait?
Really good and nicely adjustable

Can’t see why not. If you are good at casting a conventional reel, which is difficult for most anglers, then yes, go for it.
Will it come out with a left hand
Not that I have heard
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors thank you
Quick question. Do the two speed shifts can be done when the fish is at the end of the line?
You can shift gear whenever you feel you need to switch.
Have you heard anything about shimano going to bring out the new metanium dc yet what’s taking so long on that reel that’s awesome reel
Haven’t heard anything about it but I won’t know until iCast
Will you make a vanquish video in details also? Can’t wait to see that. Thanks
Vanquish is not available here in North America but I will try to get my hands on one!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I’m hoping to get my fat, grubby hands on that new Calcutta conquest BFS, and Calcutta conquest 300 MD
Would these reel be sufficient for Striped bass fishing?
Yes, absolutely
Hi, are they available in left retrieve ?
Unfortunately no. Tekota and Torium have left hand models though!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors thank you .
Whe will they be in stores?
Should be shipping this month to retailers
What's the biggest size tuna you think the 12 could handle and would you think the 8 and 10 could handle a 50lb tuna

@JP DeRose just want to make the right choice since I'll be purchasing within the next day or so
@@nufolopez83same boat now did you get it ?
@@DaveDazeBeats sure did
Talavera rod …. 8” heavy … I just bought it but not much information on it
Lots of power in the Taleveras. Just fished the 7’2” heavy and it handles Yellowfin with ease!
Is this left or right handed?
Right handed
Fathom & Cavalla worthy competitor…US$229 for SM8 & US$239 for SM10!
I had Canadian pricing listed by mistake
Only 18 lbs of drag? Not a lot. A Daiwa prorex 400 has almost 30 lbs...nice reel tho
Two very, very different reels designed for different things

Honestly not sure as I haven’t spooled one up. Possible typo?
I got 275 on my size 8 as well. Their figures are way off. I'm gonna put maxcuatro on next time hoping to get closer to 325 or something
Too much talking and not enough showing the product
I hope you were wrong on the price because the 12 and 16 start at 249
I quoted Canadian pricing by mistake! Sorry
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I was gonna say that seems a little odd
