  • I got the new 2023 Talica 12II and 16II way back in May to test. I took these reels to Cabo San Lucas and Guatemala to fish for Stripe Marlin, Rooster fish, Mahi, and Sailfish. The prefect testing ground for the reels as all the fishing was live baiting and pitch baiting. There is a bunch of significant upgrades in the new model Talica's with increased drag, lighter in weight, smoother winding and better water proofing.
    Hope you like the video

    Got the old and new 12’s. The old was great, the new is just more refined with a smidge more drag. Caught half a dozen kings on it now, same story, still owns them, as did the older talica.

    Great video thx mate. I am looking at the new Talica's for downrigging and deep dropping livebait for Kings. Which one would you go for (prob a 50lbs setup and a 80lbs setup)?

      Both the 12 and 16 will be fine. The 12 is narrow and good for jigging but if your after more line capaticty then go with the 16. They both feel really nice and balanced! the 12 is good for 50lb and 16 good for 80. both punch the same drag but just depends on line capacity.

    Hi where you mainly trolling with the jigging rods in this video and do they work ok for that? I’m in a similar position where I have to travel to my fishing destinations and I have the same rods.

    you said 390m of PE6 on the 12, but how much of what went on the 16? do you realistically have more than 300m out or just like the safety factor? Have ordered a talica 12 today, itll be lonely in a sea of saltigas so i have big expectations haha.

      @JourneyofaFisherman  10 месяцев назад +1

      More a safety factor with that line capacity. On the 16 I put 80lb braid and got around 380m. Keen to hear your thoughts on the reel once you have used it.

    Hi, I was thinking of a 23 Talica 16 2 speed for surf fishing using a drone, aiming for the bait to be carried out to max of 350m ( 65lb Daiwa J Braid 8 )using a 10ft 6' 24 kg rod, do you think the 23 ,Talica 16 would be suitable reel for the task ?

    Hello from the USA! I’ve been searching everywhere for that large spool of Kairiki multicolor braid line, but no luck so far. I recently got the Talica 16II and was wondering about using 80-pound braid. As for a leader, what did you use? 🎣

    • @JourneyofaFisherman
      @JourneyofaFisherman  2 месяца назад +1

      You can use 50-80lb braid, depends on what you’re targeting. For yellowtail kingfish I use 100lb leader.

    I really liked the rods that you matched with the reels. Great for travel. What is the model number of those rods? Thanks.

      On the Talica 12 we had the Game Type J B566 pe6 rod, and on the Talica 16 we run the Game Type J B538 pe 8 rod. Hope this helps

    What is the extra cam used for ? Can you explain it in details

    • @JourneyofaFisherman
      @JourneyofaFisherman  Год назад +1

      OK so the extra cam that comes standard in the box is used for lighter line like 16-30lb, its easily changed on the side of the reel (its located under the drag preset cap, unscrew it to replace) and then gives the reel a smoother drag curve needed for lighter line. The drag cam it comes with preinstalled is designed more for 50-80lb line. Hope this info helps. T

      @@JourneyofaFisherman thanks for the reply mate. That helps a lot. I will be using the reel as a 30 pound live bait reel so I won't have to bother changing it out. Good to know

    Hey mate question about the talicas, I recently got a Talica 25II and was intending to do some mechanical jigging with it (a bit overkill I know). The anti reverse feels like it has a bunch of play, I.e. the handle comes back a good 10 - 20mm before being caught by the anti reverse, is this normal? Makes it feel a bit rough for mechanical jigging but I realise that isn't exactly the intended use of the 25II

    • @JourneyofaFisherman
      @JourneyofaFisherman  Год назад

      Hey Mate, thanks for the message. The T25II is not really a jigging reel but more of a live baiting reel. in saying that I have used the T12 for many years and find it OK. I can understand how the play would be an issue for jigging but structurally its fine it more of the feel I guess. They are a great reel for sure but specifically designed for live or dead bait fishing and OK to troll with as well. T

    • @TryABaconSlice
      @TryABaconSlice Год назад

      @JourneyofaFisherman okay copy that cheers 👍. I think I was more concerned that the play was a defect or something but if it's inherent to the reel that's fine. I brought the reel as a bit of a do it all setup for drone fishing, deep drops, trolling for larger pelagics, and even bottom fishing and livebaiting, less so a jigging reel but I will give it a go dropping large jigs in several hundred m of water
