      ...interestingly enough former Solid Gold host Marilyn McCoo recorded this record before Whitney did ❤

      Yeah, I think she would have sounded better in a higher key. Not one of her best performances, imo.

    That was a beautiful performance by Dionne Warwick with a friendly competition to her cousin, Whitney Houston. It was classic mid-1980s Dionne!!! As far as the airdate, since "Solid Gold" aired on Saturday nights in Los Angeles and in some other television markets, it might have aired as early as February 8, 1986. Just curious about that.

    This song was originally recorded by Marilyn McCoo, so it had "Solid Gold" written all over it.

    Cousin or not, it took a lot of guts to sing that Whitney Houston branded song at that point in time.

      Why is that? Dionne Warwick is a legend who spent her career singing the most difficult songs in pop music. On the list of all-time greatest female singers, Dionne outranks the drug addict.

      @michaelwarren7962 3 года назад +4

      @@Djm8520 why, you say?
      To sing a song of anyone at the top of their game is risky.
      As legendary as Dionne is (my #1 female vocalist of all time), Whitney had an exponential amont of more #1 hit songs, more platinum albums, more gold records, more Grammy Awards, more Billboard Awards, more sold out concert crowds.
      Your classless reference to Whitney as an addict will never erase that fact.

      @@michaelwarren7962 I agree with everything you said, but Whitney didn’t have more Grammys. They had about the same amount.

    • @michaelwarren7962
      @michaelwarren7962 2 года назад +2

      @@lordvoldemort5725 but Whitney had more #1 hit singles, just from that one album.
      Whitney was the "It" artist at that point in time, they were both on the same Arista Records lable, and more time, energy, and effort was poured into Whitney by Clive Davis.
      It can be a career killer to tackle a big hit like that, when that artist is hitting it like that.
      Whitney could do that with this song, because Marilyn McCoo's original version didn't do so well. But if Whitney had covered "Wedding Bell Blues" she may not have done so great, because Marilyn's fans would prefer to hear her version.
      By the way: Whitney Houston has a total of 8 Grammy Awards. Dionne has a total of 6 if you include her Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award.

    The presenter saying they are gonna keep it in the family is really funny and awkward considering the meaning of the song
