I love this song! This was written by Isaac Hayes. Dionne Warwick loved it so much she begged Isaac Hayes to give it to her according to the story! Isaac said no a few times! Then he finally gave in! And let her have it😂 which I'm glad she got it it fits her very well👍👍👍❤
I had just graduated from Morgan State University May 20, 1979 in Baltimore, Maryland. I am still listening to this song and watching this video, January 2, 2024. Dionne Warwick is a international treasure.
From south of spain.... Love dionne warwick as so much n miss whitney Houston. RIP never been to Usa.. BUT love their music its so heavenly contagious.. Greetings from south of spain
This song is so smoothly elegant... It transports back to the softer sounds of FM Radio in the early 80s. Thanks for posting this performance! Dionne is legend...
The band is on fire. The piano player gives the song an added layer of improvisation. Rhythm guitar fills in beautifully. The great DW sounds good as ever. The band really makes this version even better then the recording. From the steady drums to the moving bass line, this version rocks.

She looks so much younger here than in her other 1979 appearances. Like 31-32 years old at most and not 39 as she was. 1973-1977 looks as well as early eighties 1980-1983 were the best looking of her. She looked like a doll. Exotic beauty. As far as the voice is concerned she was at her absolute peak during those years
Ms. Dionne is so unique and versatile that I believe she is like the only female vocalist that gives that swag to her voice when she needs and wants to. She does everything with that amazing voice!! She is grooving her a*& off!!, lol.
My favorite song from Ms Warwick the year i was born lol i thought she looked like a super model back then she's a beautiful mature lady now.but she wasl like a super model back then
Uh oh, she's rocking the late 70's Diana Ross bun/slick back. Dionne Warwick is simply amazing. I wish music today's music was like this. Today's music is 100% shit.

@@jimgurganious6642 Thank you for that information. I remember the "Mike Douglas Show" being on in the 1970s, maybe a bit beyond that, but had been born in the 1970s, so I was not watching daytime television talk shows at the time, but they had a lot of them during that era and than much later in the 1990s, but those talk shows were not like Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, Hour Magazine with Gary Collins, the Jon Davidson Show, and the Donahie show, which actually began in 1967 and went through 1996. As for Dionne on Mike Douglas in 1979 performing "Deja Vu", that appears to be a master tape or something that had been studio-based, as there are all those large moving numbers on the tape. Videocassette recorders were introduced in 1975,.but not that commonly used in 1979, not really commonly in use until the mid to late 1980s when the prices went down and VHS, for Video Home System, had become the most widely used format, exceeding the Beta video system. She changed the lyrics from: "looking for you / nights were more than you could know / long ago" to: "looking for you / it's like much more than you could know / long ago"
I graduated from college in 1983. I wrote many terms papers while listening to this song. Love Dionne Warwick. ❤️❤️❤️

The band is killin. Of course she is great.
This version has a much nicer groove than the radio version. Rhythm guitar and bass rifts and the extra instrumentation. Love it.

I was wondering what television talk show and what country that this performance originated.
The host is Mike Douglas (seen at the end). He was a daytime talk show host here in the US.

Dionne Warwick - Déjà Vu (fanboy cover by J. Ang / Dr. Jones)

The instruments almost drown out her voice starting at 1:11. The locale doesn't amplify her talents at all.
She changed the lyrics from:
"looking for you / nights were more than you could know / long ago"
to:
"looking for you / it's like much more than you could know / long ago"
Ms. Dionne does that sometimes.
@@singingmanmdyes, Dionne does improvise and ad-lib on a lot of her songs in her live performances.
