Linux is really gaining so much traction and support. Companies pushing Playtron instead of another locked down BSD fork really makes me think that Linux will be a first class gaming operating system. All that's left would be some of those big professional software that don't have decent alternatives.

I really don't want those companies like adobe to just port their proprietary garbage over to linux, I want the FOSS alternatives to become better than their stuff. It's not really a win for Linux and the FOSS community when people are just going to use the same proprietary stuff on it.

Can we just sit back and recognize how lucky we are to have linux desktops that are more responsive to the end user than corporate interests. When I look at the yearly improvements to GNOME and KDE and compare them to the invasive Windows and creaky old OSX I'm truly thankful that I have these choices.

KDE: too much windows feel, and bloat, and cruft, and unstable -> i heard. so i didnt even try that.
Gnome: toooo far away than my workflow, not very keyboard centric either.
Cinnamon: nice blend of novelty, familiarity, functionality & lightweightness.
Just one thing with Cinnamon DE: the apps like Nemo etc should really be merged with things like Thunar file explorer. I am not sure if XApps will include Nemo too or not.

You can't deny that he makes some decent points about the Linux community and the usability of it for many people

    • @jedipadawan7023
      @jedipadawan7023 Месяц назад

@@LocalKatsaridaphobe Not really. I do not know how or why Kent got such a hate complex for Linux but his 'points' are really off. He makes massive errors on basic facts and uses dual standards.
I'll give one example (related to usability.)
Kent claims Linux is a workstation OS by dint of its Unix background/design and is thus, unsuitable for non-programmers.
But Kent uses and endorses Mac which is built on BSD which has more direct Unix origin and even more techie! Kent doesn't tell you that. Dual standard.
In regards to usability - Kent just repeats the so many cliches and Microsoft talking points it's unreal. Linux (depending on the distro) is MORE usable for the common man than either Windows or Mac. Windows because with Linux you can choose the workflow and have a clean, bloat free experience - my wife loves it - Mac just due to cost! Kent would deny my wife and the local rural villagers simply CANNOT be using Linux and I could not possibly have given then MX Linux KDE on their old machines to keep them going because Linux just CANNOT be usable by the common man. It's for programmers only! Says Kent.
So the guy cannot be be trusted. I mean, problems with Linux community? There is no 'Linux Community' because there is no Linux OS - only the kernel. There are lots of different GNU and Linux related projects with individual 'communities.' Use Arch and prepare for "RTFM!" Use Mint and be ready for "How can I help?" Use GNOME and be ready for "I deem this irrelevant." Use KDE and it will be - and I have seen this - "Just fixed it for ya. It'll be in the next release."
Kent is wrong about almost everything re:Linux and he has this weird, now down to serious language issue, complex re: Linux.
It's bewildering for me. I mean, he claims Linux users re lying about the rising desktop figures...? Really?! From the same data sources Kent used to ridicule Linux desktop use!
For the record, there are real problems with Linux - the software for in depth pro work in media, graphics and the like is not there yet.. Audio. I understand, is a mess and makes pro use impossible. Quality control across distros is highly variable. If Kent spoke about these things he would have valid points. But he doesn't. I also notice his silence on Windows problems including bloat, telemetry, co-pilot, One Drive, Microsoft accounts, recall, et al.
I can understand people having a bias. I can understand Windows fanbois. Yes I am a Linux (KDE) and anime fanboi. (I found anime before it became 'kewl!') I understand sites having a bias. But I never come across and ANTI-OS site which acts as a propaganda site. This is... unique. And has colorful language to boot.

@@runnerup15 Look up Kent's tech world. It used to be a tech tips site. Not it's just Kent's rants against Linux and why everyone show go Mac or Windows, especially Mac. (Like the world can afford Mac!)
I would not mind if Kent's site was a pro-Mac site, showing what Mac can do and running comparison's and stuff. But his site is now just one long h-a-t-e for Linux. He also 'pretends to be pro-Linux and FOSS because used to use Linux and contribute but he converted to Mac and since then...
I mean, this is his latest community posting on his site - as of today:
      "I am using REAL UNIX!
not that fake "unix like" Linux thing!!!
      macOS or go home 😂😂😂😂"
That gives a flavor. He is deleting my comments now.
