Was the Infantry contingent 2RAR or are they giving other Inf units (Like 1RAR especially) some Amphib training? Great to see the Boxers getting some good integrated Exercise training too! Man our force projection capability has improved dramatically since I was in (98-05) I'm still Blue because I'm Blue Lads!
AFAIK each brigade takes its turn as the core of the Amphibious Read Group for a given year. 2RAR forms the "pre-landing force" which conducts reconnaissance and pathfinding ahead of the main force's landing.

You American, British or Canadian out of curiosity? Because Aussies didn't participate in the Normandy Landings as far as I know (Except for Air cover). Our Amphibious landings were all in the Pacific. Much respect for those who carried the day with the landings in Normandy!

My point being, while perhaps great from a nostalgia perspective, the reality is the 21st C. ADF should have upgraded, protected and well armed amphibious platforms for ship tp shore transition in denied environments. The Ducks are fine....until someone is shooting at you. Last I was in a LARC (a long while back) they couldn't read a tide table and we were bogged hundreds of meters off shore at Shoalwater and had to jump overboard and crawl, drag ourselves through the mud for an hour to get ashore to get on with the patrol so perhaps I am negatively biased! 🙂
Yes, that is part of the procedure of making an Amphibious landing. Navy divers scout ahaead for explosive obstacles and map the sea floor to find the best landing positions. 2RAR and other elements then covertly insert along the shoreline and secure landing zones for amphibious forces as well as HLZ's for helicopters.
It depends on if the landing zones are already well mapped and aspects like that don't usually require divers anymore. These days 2RAR Recon is responsible for covert landings in Zodiacs to conduct the the initial Beach Recon proceeding the actual landing party's. 2 Commando also performs this function, usually if the Landing Zones are mined, contested or have obstacles. They do have the capability of sending divers obviously, but it is mostly dependent on the given threat involved.
These guys will bring a he'll of a fight to any enemy. But unfortunately since Australian government won't bring in the numbers they will have to rely on allies for that support.
Now we need to as US has just done re raise the Parachute capability, used as airmail, air land option from aircraft or if required para capability...no excuses...its time to re invent wheel.

You think being a grunt is hard? It isn't. Back in 90s we did EVERYTHING! Only difference was 5/7 & 3. And then para is NOTHING! It's just a 2week course. I banged out a easy static line course just as part of commando reo. It's nothing special. As for sitting on a boat or being in a bucket, same thing. We sat on boats, in buckets, on choppers every year in a bn. No special skill needed. 2rar gets a recon course and a small boat handler course. Nothing high level. If you want to be a grunt you'll end up in a few bns over the years anyway. SF is where the actions at. I just used grunts as my apprenticeship to advanced infanteering .
Frogs as like marine can RISE up from out of the water and walk proudly with distinguished determination across land, makes perfect sense to me why they can live with a weapon, look how beautiful the possums is

@@triplez300 They would still need a “parent” organisation - Australia isn’t big enough nor can afford to build a whole new service and in all honesty there are far better things to spend limited budgets on! Defence forces of our size tend to combine things not create more!
It’s embarrassing, this should be the training involved in generating a marine force with marine force doctrine under development. Only had to be 6,000 strong force and the military is already increasing its numbers. Let’s just refocus the army on land warfare and raise a more elite marine force with purpose designed vehicles and equipment.
This ex has been happening for the better part of 5+ years and hasn’t evolved at all. Still seeing the same landing craft transporting the same number of troops onto a Red Beach that they’re all accustomed to. It’s essentially an excuse for ADF to say they’re capable of standing up an amphibious element 😂

Well marines are made for amphibious assaults
To be fair, USA has 13× our population size to work with.
If you multiplied the ADF by 13 it would start to look something like USAs.
