This may be capable, but it's useless against China and their multi billion dollar investment in advanced missile systems..
It is very good and capable but has a pretty low range, could maybe cover 1/2 to 3/4 of a city, if the targeting systems are hit though the city would be unprotected, we also only have 2 of these batteries leaving the rest of Australia with out ground based air defence unless a frigate or destroyer was near by, wish we would invest in patriot because i dont think even all of our major cities are covered, i dare say someone will correct me if i have anything wrong though
Being a Australian citizen you would hope and pray that their would be some sort of missile defence system protection for the 2 major cities in Australia. SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE

@@gibbo_303it’s not meant for static use protecting our cities, it’s the start of the ridiculously overdue Air Defence capability for deployed units. Much better than the manpads that were the pinnacle of said capability until now. 🤦🏼♂️

I'm seeing a Hawkei with NASAMS launchers on the back there... are there any plans for more mobile iterations of the system - something that can launch the missiles straight off the back of a vehicle rather than having to set down a static launcher? I feel like with us transitioning away from towed howitzer systems to the self-propelled AS-9, transitioning from these kinds of air defences to TELAR systems for manoeuvre forces would be a worthwhile move.
We won't get AS-9s lol! They have been claiming we would get self-propelled arty since I was in Armoured Corp back when I joined in 2004, still haven't seen them in Australia yet lol!
@@reanukeevesau AS-9 spec test vehicles have been here for just over 6 months in SA with the factory presently being constructed in Vic, makes sense that you haven't seen any cause they're building the line that will build them, can't immaculately conceive an SPG.
@@Ihasanart yeah that's Factory for Production, when we converted from Leopard 1's to the M1A1 we ran years of trials in Australia with several different vehicles. That's what I'm referring to when I said that we haven't had any in Australia on ranges for Trials testing.

no where to hide anywhere these days apart from somewhere urban, park them in a forest? use an IR camera, put a tent or net over it? use an IR camera

Awesome weapons! How long ago was this? It’s getting a touch warm in some parts now…I wouldn’t want to be at Woomera in the heat! Give me an air conditioned warship anytime!😉 It’s been a long time since my service, but despite the rivalry I’ve always loved the Army and RAAF. Every service has its role to play in the ADF.
Why is the launcher moved off the truck? Safety and recoil handling? In a pinch, could it be fired from the truck, or is that far too dangerous/has other problems?
They’ve got a version which is mounted on the back of the Hawkei PMV.
This version will be used to defend sites, rather than mobile forces.

"Smokeless" missiles very good
is it firing AIM120C Missiles? My understanding is these systems use standard Air to Air missiles, though the range is reduced being they are launched in dense air.
They are standard AIM-120s. The biggest issue effecting range is that they are not being launched from an aircraft already travelling at speed and at altitude. Climbing to altitude from a stationary position uses up much of the rockets thrust.
It’s firing dummy / trainer missiles because we can’t afford the real thing
I’ve read about a Hawkei PMV armed with missiles as part of the Australian variation of the NASAMS system, where does that currently stand?
It doesn't stand, lol. If we fire 90 degrees to the direction of the vehicle, it flips the hawkie.

@@carrott36 It’s not a smart idea. At a minimum the missiles need to be on tray-backed Bushmasters, but probably something bigger than that. People need to let go of silly ideas when it becomes obvious they aren’t going to work.

How come it is not being used in conjunction with the RAAF air defence radar?
because it has it's own radar/guidance system? Or are you talking about the fixed early warning systems the RAAF have? In which case two totally different roles.

Is there still a Hawkei using a self towed radar on a trailer planned for NASAMS?
CEATAC is the small tactical radar which is housed on the bed of the Hawkei - you would have seen this in the video - if not look at 4:19. The other radar is the CEAOPS (much larger) mounted on a MAN HX truck. This is the long range air defence surveillance radar, only 3 of these have been ordered - I didn't see a CEAOPS radar vehicle in this video.
@@BallisticSollution I once saw plans for a Hawkei carrying a CEATAC on a trailer while having the missile launcher on the bed. That's what I wanted to find out. Because most pictures show the CEATAC on one Hawkei and the launcher on a second Hawkei.
@@PaulieLDP I guess technically the High Mobility Launcher variant could haul CEATAC radar trailer as well, but you would have to take into consideration the payload weight of the missiles and the launcher, plus the radar/trailer as well. Whether or not a Hawkei could carry that weight without mobility and range issues is another story.

I’m in Ukraine atm volunteering as a medic. If Australia goes to war tomorrow against China, we are going to get rolled big time. We will not last two weeks if we don’t seriously pull out our fingers and have a Defence industry at home, also an increase in size is desperately needed. When the skies are clear over the battlefield here, there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of drones in the sky. Just cheap nasty shit that is inflicting massive losses on both manpower and equipment. The Australian military needs an effective anti drone weapon mounted on the Hawkei. Also something that Ukrainians have brought up about their training received by ADF personal, they appreciate it, but the training given in trench warfare is just utter crap. Trench warfare training needs to be brought back to the ADF asap. Anyway I want to go on more, but I know the ADF hierarchy won’t give a damn, they believe they know everything. But with Australia and our Western Allies having not fought in a “War” since Korea, War with China is going to be a huge wake up call to our Country, and we are going to suffer for it greatly.
we are allied with america. Unlike ukraine who choose not to join alliances for protection we did.
@@lukea9873 We need to be able to stand on our own two feet and not rely on our friends to do most the heavy lifting. I guarantee you if it comes to choosing between US citizens or Australian citizens, the US will look after their own first.
Count the number of taxpayers we have in Australia who will have to pay for all the defense equipment, and more important.. the personnel required to operate it, there's your answer.
We already lift far above our weight grade, always have. The truth is, if you compare our population, and income base, to China or even Russia, we'll never be able to compete on sheer volume of people. We can't get people to join the Defense Forces now, Australians are just too comfortable.
As for a "cheap anti drone weapon".. heard of the Slinger? Made by a Canberra company, can be fixed or mobile, I hear some are heading to Ukraine (according to the Ukrainian Ambassador to Aust) We also developed and make.. and supply to Ukraine.. cardboard "flat pack" drones... you can't get any cheaper than that.
So apart from suddenly having a population grow to 200-300 million, and a tax base to cover every possible need, we do what we can. The population would rather more money spent on Schools, Hospitals, Transport, housing that are at this time all failing the current populations size, forget more.
As for training, our expected area of operations isn't Europe, it's here, and not even NATO or the Ukrainians expected the war to sink into a WW1 style trench stalemate.

However spicy China has been getting with its navy and offensive missile capabilities, its sealift still isn't up to the job and its lack of domestic energy resources is a horrible vulnerability. US will pin down a Taiwan offensive and US will turn off the energy tap to China. They have a strategic reserve of about 90 days, after that people will start getting hungry. Doesn't take long for a nation of 1.3B to get into trouble.
However, all your points are excellent as these days, who knows what the US will do. If Biden or Trump is at the wheel it's anybody's guess. If Haley somehow gets up things will probably be a bit more predictable.

Would be decently quick to set up, probably 30 minutes i would imagine and 10-15 minutes to reload it, this would do spectacular in most combat environments if we had more than 2 batteries but you need lots of them to cover for eachother, when 1 moves it is not vulnerable or if a battery is overloaded another one can help but having only 2 could defend canberra and canberra only
Slowly getting better equipped,that military personnel numbers are down yet the military numbers there are more equipped, it's just another tool in the shed regarding what's can be contemplated

It is a Norwegian system developed by Kongsberg together with the Americans. Sometimes the Americans call it a Norwegian system and sometimes National Advanced ....

It was rumored that Norway would have discontinued the production of these due to low demand. And then russia invaded Ukraine. I bet a lot of weapons systems suddenly found renewed demand since then.
If you're dropping this on the ground and not mobile, the equipment has a life expectancy of 5 mins once the radar transmits

You just do not know anything about Australian defence development programmes. we are working with USA on defence for hypersonics and ohh wait we helped USA develop their hypersonic missiles HAWC was developed under SCIFIRE and HIFIRE and we Australia will also have our own version of HAWC hypersonic missiles and even a scramjet hypersonic drone first flight 2024.

Australia has no defence against Chinese and Russian ICBMs and SLBMs, etc. The hypersonic missiles under development you’ve mentioned are for offensive use only. They have no defensive capability. This leaves Australia dangerously exposed. Read up son.

Three years to get it done and the politicians keep saying they take the defence of Australia and the threat of China and Russia seriously. Their actions tell us they don't. They treat defence as an afterthought and a way to cut costs to balance their budget.

I just watched a video on Telegram of some Russians in Ukraine who go drunk and accidentally set off a grenade in their room. Some died but others only have their face half blown off or seem to be in some kind of trance either from being drunk or the blast and or other injuries lol. The video was taken by some higher ranking officer who was treating them like animals. It was like they were stupid children to him, but even worse because he was filming them and yelling at them all as they were bleeding and dying. The cultural difference between the ADF and the Russian military couldn’t be starker. It’s very interesting.

Mobiks -conscripts like you saw - are not a military. They are meat destined only to fertilise the paddocks of Avdiivka, and they are lucky to have had a couple of weeks of basic training. They bear no resemblance to any army of any Western democratic nations, and the meat assaults they pursue are the tactics of WW1, long discarded in the west. As soon as Ukraine has an effective airforce, the precision rocket artillery they need to destroy C&C, logistics and artillery and a properly formed up mechanised offensive capability, Russian military is toast.

I tried to join the Australian Army back in like 2009 and the army said I was too dumb, I was 2% away from getting in i was 16 1/2 at the time that was the correct age to join, but not be able to go to war. my grate uncle joined the British army when he was 14 years old then fought in the Somme at 16 years old he survived. well almost 14 years later now i am a self-tort deminer. I now remove landmines I tort myself as no one was going to help me help others in Australia, so I started to read janes mines and mine clearance. its a bit ironic as the army are needing people and deminers or EOD in the army or SAPPERS whatever one wants to call it now days. but due to what i said above in my first sentence I was dumb, stupid well you failed right there by judging me on the ability to achieve well I say that's ok, as that's the way the army in the past treated the Vietnamese well look what Thay have achieved, and this is why I am joining the Ukrainian national army as I will be guaranteed a job and a place as that's what the army was all about when my grandad was serving, and I can volunteer for free as I can't do that in the Australian Army trust me I tried, my pride and honor is worth more than gold and coin combined. but I say that is the motivation that moves me. one said no but I say YES I keep trying, I keep going till i get what i want in life within reason and within the legality of the law. I am a man who is determined. so just asking for a friend lol is it amatol I don't think it is amatol maybe RDX or PLX, Fox8 or is it one of these liquid triple-based systems. 7.8 km/s and 26 gigapascal for Composition B i know erythritol tetranitrate is 9 to 10 KM/s 2 to 3X more power than composition C4 and that was 88.00% RDX and a few other things 4 other things I believe well give or take. so, i don't think its RDX
The time when your Great Uncle joined was very, very different to today. Soldiers did not need too much in the way of literacy and numeracy skills over a century ago and during the prelude to WW1 they basically took anyone. The modern Australian army is essentially a peace-time army save for the recent low-tempo deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. There will always be room for infantry, especially in a protracted war, but soldering is gradually becoming more about operating equipment.
There will be great demand for demining skills in Ukraine as the Russians have mined probably up to 20% of the country and those mines will need to be removed for many, many, many years to come. I commend anyone who is brave enough to do that vital work.

I do like that Nlaws and all the new stuff is fire and forget. i have spent 30 grand over 2 years i have receipts and all for my gear for Ukraine most of my gear has no non Ferris metal or ferrous metals so it will not set of magnetic influence fuse like the mvn-72 that is used in the TM-62M AT mines found in Ukraine very common mine.
and the VP-12 VP-13 or it is known as the UMK has a geophone signal to detect foot steps very dangerous, detonator is MD-5M for umk. i have tort my self for 5 years now on mine clearing. Ukraine has the biggest landmine fields in the world. from what i hear it might take 757 years to clear Ukraine completely and that may not even be completely.

Need to work on video it seams like a safety training video from work cover. You want more recruits to join the ADF you need to step it up. Expand what you get pay and so on. show the fire power hitting targets that gets bums on seats. Like to see adf have a top fuel team that’s raw power. That’s what the armed Forces are about. Safety training is a great thing. But boring

Me too. They broke my heart. Never forget that little punk kid soldier harrassing the pastor at the border, who had all his relevant documentation and permission. I didn't like it either, but it is frankly a bigger problem if the ADF ignores government orders.
