The note about external power supply is spot on. For myself I use the Jackery 240 power station as it gives me the option to hook in my solar panel too!
I'm an audiophile and totally agree about the external mics. I had an issue with my microphones this weekend and it drove me nuts. I'm gonna buy a portable mixer so that I can mix all my sounds to my heart's content.
I was just looking at 3D printing up a half dozen of the ball mounts. They would be perfect for mounting around my Garage and Farm for filming !! I also need to grab some of those Rhode mics ... !! Great info Jason !!
Good thinking, just remember if heat is an issue for you the mount where it attaches to the Mevo will need to be metal. The Start is designed to dissipate heat through the bottom (mount).
@@JasonHoffmanYT good call, I will use ABS and do some testing. My goal is a nice cheap mount. That way I can float them around dodge to places foe quick setup !!
Another question, we have a small Deaf church. Our stage is 15 feet wide with the podium and tv monitor to display powerpoint (verses, etc.). Since Mevo Start is not an optical camera, setting up Mevo Start in the back of the room and using zoom may not get the best results (the view becomes pixelated, etc.). So, how do I determine how close the Mveo Start needs to be to capture the stage (15 feet wide) without using zoom for optimal video results? 5, 10, 15 or 20 feet from the speaker?
I’m sure there is math to answer your question but I just held the camera and moved away from the platform until I got the coverage I wanted. Then mounted it at this distance.
How do you mount both the Mevo and Rode VideoMicro mic together? Looking to use it to conduct interviews outside during football/basketball/baseball games. Do you need a separate tripod?
I mount the Rode to a 3D printed sleeve which slides on the back of the Start. They are available for purchase via a link in the video description. Love the interview idea for postgame!
@Jason Hoffman at 2:18 you show a shot of your camera. I have watched some of your other content where you talk about using a smart plug. I am curious to know how you get power to the Mevo Start via the USB-C port. In this shot it looks like you made a usb-c two wire cable. is this a power-only USB-C cable. Would love to know how to make this work in my own setup.
The shot you are seeing is of a normal usb cable plugged into a charging block and running down the conduit there. For the smart plug video it was also standard usb-a to usb-c cable. That being said, I have power banks that have usb-c outputs so usb-c to usb-c cables work just fine there.
I've been loving your content around the Mevo Start. I'm actually shopping for one for a local government committee, and it's good to know that my initial thoughts on what to buy are backed up by your experiences. I use the Rode Video Micro for my own youtube channel, but I was worried that it wouldn't be good for group meetings. But it sounds like it picks up your choir singing, so this should be a good fit. My only question is what kind of tripod would you recommend in my case?
My favorite is the 6’ Tripod listed in the video description. It is a photography tripod as I dont pan my shots with the mevo camera. The boom arm allows incredible flexibility for getting in just the right position.
Thanks for this video! What dedicated hotspot do you suggest ? Our church meets in a building which our mevo loses connection too often; perhaps a hotspot will help ? I used to be able to connect with mevo hotspot, but for some reason it does not show up anymore. Please advise!
Are you using the single cam app or Multicam? There is a wording difference in what they used to call hotspot mode. In Multicam its Access point mode and in the single cam app I think its just cellular. If you go the hotspot route, use the best one your preferred provider offers. Or see if the Netgear Nighthawk works on your provider.
@@JasonHoffmanYT I use an paid streaming app called eccamm live. Do you think I can stream a two hour church service from a cellular hotspot? Is not the cellular hotspot service only as good as the wi fi ? The wi fi at the building we do church is not strong. The camera will get kicked off and then it reconnects it’s self. Thanks for your help.
@@davidjohnson5881 The hotspot will be only as good as the cellular service from your provider (Verizon, AT&T, TMobile, etc). When you do a speed test at the venue what is your usual upload speed?
@@JasonHoffmanYT I use Verizon. I have no idea of the upload speed. But before we went back to in person services; I used the mevo hotspot all the time.
We bought this set for xmas since we used them for our church we share location with other several ministries. So going wireless is a must. Unfortunately we experiencing a lost connection problem. Have never been able to livestream a entire service without getting booted off the connection. How can we improve our connection without going hardwire? Thank you
Ok, two things: be sure you are the only one to have access to the connection for your stream and consider streaming to a destination other than FB. Many are having trouble with streams being disconnected. I have gone to streaming to RUclips and sharing the link on our FB page.
Shotgun mic was a game changer for my baseball streams. What was just as big to me was your printed mount for it. I’m constantly being asked about my set up and I always end with for more info check out this channel on youtube!
Nick, thank you! And I should have the ability to order the printed mounts next week. Waiting for one piece of the puzzle before making this announcement.

What is that accessory you have attached on the back at 2:20 that allows the mounting of the shotgun mic?
It is a 3d printed cold shoe mount. I print and sell them if you need one. Email me at the address in my video descriptions or on my channel page.
Wait! The Mevo that is attached to the ceiling is inverted. Does this mean that you are using the Mevo app to rotate the video stream 180 degrees?
Yes, in the image adjustments of the Mevo settings there is a ‘Flip’ feature. On, Off and Auto
