Born in Red Hook in 1948. Moved to Mill Basin/Bergen Beach in ‘58. Going to Flatbush Ave. to the movies, Marine and Brook theaters, Lowes Kings, Jahn’s ice cream parlor. Going to Nathan’s in Coney Island. Marine Park picnics, Riis Park beach.
All good memories. Sadly, nothing stays the same. Not all change is good.

I remember all that, the junkshine, Brooklyn College, kings Plaza, Down town Brooklyn, all are missed for now, I will return some day to live out my last days. Brooklyn to heart.

I grew up on Ocean ave between Caton and Church. Best times of my life. Proud E-hall alumni and former usher at the Kenmore late 80s and early 90s. I miss those days.

I grew up on Dorchester Rd and E.21st street. I used to go to the Kenmore all the time. The last movie I was there was Jo Jo Dancer with Richard Pryor.

    Great video
Great music. When I moved to Beverly Rd & E. 17th in 1980, Flatbush was a different world than Crown Heights (Grand Army Plaza/Brooklyn Museum area). And when my mom decided to move us to Starrett City in '85 I remained fixated in Flatbush. Was tough making the transition 😃

Thanks for mentioning ring-a-levio! I had to explain to my son and daughter what that was! LOL! I
We lived in Flatbush in 1960. I left in the 1970s. There are places there that I'll never ever forget.

Nice work guys. Ringelivio, skelly- you gotta be kidding. -:) E. 18th between Church and Caton. Went back to the old block 2 weeks ago for first time in decades. Neighborhood is very vibrant. Buildings are well-maintained. Then took a tour of the Parade Grounds where I spent so many happy times growing up. Not the dust bowl of my childhood. Reconstructed and a great resource for the community.

OMG I will be 71 next month. This is where I was brought up. It was a very special place. I don’t Rember any racism in this neighborhood growing up. There was a lot of respect for teachers, parents, clergy. Everyone dressed to the nines. Women wore dresses and skirts. Yes I was playing all the games you mentioned what about stoop ball. Everybody black or white jumped double Dutch. The girls would line up for jump rope. I went to Wingate high school which was maybe seventy per cent black. I being a white Italian never thought about racism I got along with everyone. I miss those days they were precious times. Thank you for this video!

Nicely done. From Flatbush myself from the 50's and 60's. No matter where i go in the world people know I'm from Brooklyn once I start talking. And another thing nobody cared what color you were as long as you could play ball, any ball.

"respect for our elders . . ." Where's that today? I got "the one twos" often too. It gave me respect for my elders and all my mom and dad went through to make sure I succeeded later on. Oh, and did this guy remember the College Theatre at the Junction? Don't recall him saying that on.

Anyone remember Jeffery's Backery on Nostrand Avenue, just off Church Avenue?
Best pastries I have EVER had. No where have I ever found a similar taste or talented bakery as Jeffrey's!
I wish we could return to neighborhoods like that again. There is ALWAYS hope...
