I’m 90% sure I went to school with Maggie and was friends with her in Elementary school. She used to get bullied because she was different but she was always nice. I remember this girl. If this is really her this is so sad. I lost contact with everyone in my hometown when I moved to a new city. I can’t believe that this is what her life lead to.

My heart hurts for that little boy. I live in Sacramento and I know from experience working with children with special needs to not use force to put someone down especially a child. This case is so sad because I cannot even imagine what that boy went through. These were adults working with these children, they should have known better. Empathy goes a long way and these people didn't have it. It's just so messed up. RIP kiddo

If they can't use force, what are they supposed to do? Autistic kids (and adults) can be very violent. They can go into rages that are extremely difficult to stop. That child could cause harm to staff and other children while they are not using force to stop them. People love to say what everyone shouldn't do, but they don't ever explain what they *should* do.

That's all he cares about and I can't even imagine someone doing this to him when he was a child having these same type of episodes/outburts, however you choose to label them. He had NO CONTROL over it. They don't know or understand why they do things like spitting, screaming, hitting themselves, etc, if they did they wouldn't do it. This just enrages me to no end!!!

I went to school with a girl who was wheelchair bound and also had extreme autism as well. She would go into fits where she would scream in the middle of lunch or start trying to bite herself or other people so the teacher whenever she would do this she would hold her hands while walking her out out and then take her somewhere to help her calm down she was in school with me all 4 years of high school and not once did they ever have to restrain her for an hour and 45 minutes. Even if she bit them.
There is absolutely no excuse for what these people did to that little boy whatsoever. They handled it the wrong way if they're not willing to accept that the they are in no position to ever work a job around special needs children. They knew what they were doing was wrong because there is no way that this boy wasn't getting more upset the longer he was being restrained like that because he couldn't understand what was going on.

I have been in the mental health field for a while, I used to work in a facility with physically aggressive individuals. We have been chased with forks, the building lit on fire, staff has been beat up multiple times, a coworker even lost her fetus from an attack. Our local police station told us we could no longer call them for assistance since it was supposed to be our job to control them. Many times, we had individuals running down a highway, but the only way an officer would come out to help is when someone else in the community called them to report someone running down the highway. It's sad, but we need more resources for people with special needs, more care centers, more staff, more support.

I worked in a center like that two years ago. We had a child who had been in a psychotic break for three solid days and the school wouldn't have her admitted. I got hit in the back of the head after I walked into the room by this child (didn't even know the kid was coming down the hallway and I had my back turned - I was in no way a threat) where I received a traumatic brain injury. The school told me it was my fault because I should have known to get out of the way and the police department wouldn't press criminal charges because it's the school's job to keep the kids in line. The center closed last year due to the MULTIPLE lawsuits from prior staff (I am not on that list, oddly enough, I chose the workman's comp route and refused to sign an NDA).

I can tell you with certainty, there is a lack of training for the staff having to deal with an increasing number of children with autism and other disabilities. I live in that same town and remember how it really shook up the college students since the body was found beneath the stairs of the house. We don't get publicized crimes of this nature nearly as often as OKC so for a while people were afraid of a killer on the same street they lived on. Absolutely chilling that she was actually a SIBLING of the perpetrator. Makes me sick to my stomach that there are monsters out there willing to kill their own flesh and blood solely for money. As if abusing a disabled person wasn't horrid enough, exploiting her posthumously? Absolutely disgusting. Who knows how many other people like Maggie are being subjected to fates like this? These aids need to be vetted better. Seems almost anyone can become an aid working with special needs children. Especially since all the help they can get is definitely needed. The aid turnover rate in our schools is outrageous, with so many having drug, alcohol, and criminal histories. The mother of my cousins was someone just like this who worked in the classroom with children. While she's had several cps reports and investigations on her record, ultimately having them taken away. She was never fired, has her credentials still, and could go back to work at any time. My sister is a teacher, and she has had to report several ed aids. At least 2 a year. When it came time for my autistic son, who was non verbal to go to school, I was already so nervous about the people left in charge of his care. Luckily, his first couple years of school he had wonderful teachers and aids, but his last 3 years were so horrific, it was almost traumatic, and it stresses me out thinking about what these people put my son and me thru. They were so bad, one incident my son came home with bruises perfectly shaped as hands on his thighs as if someone was forcing him down into his wheelchair. I had to report it to the police. Another incident was me hearing my sons sobbing cries from down the street as I waited for his bus. Turns out, they had his window down, in the middle of winter, with him being soaked with urine all the way up his back. They said they had the window down to calm him down. But it was obvious they did it to punish him as they knew he didn't like the wind blowing on him, especially when being soaked. He was shivering so bad, and i cried so much from seeing my son suffer in such a wat., It makes me sick. It was hell with all of the battles, and back and forth reporting, meetings, and fighting. When we finally got our son transferred, I couldn't handle even looking at a school or talking to anyone from a school. Luckily my husband took charge of anything school related from then on.

I know in Georgia and California, Special Ed teachers need a Master's in Education. I took a few basic classes in that field and learned how to deal with a large variety of special needs. This sounds like lack of accountability on the teacher's part. It sounds like the school fulfilling the basic requirements and running a business instead of an institution that really cares for and respects the children. I would have to say accountability on the cops' part too. Yes, they need more and special training, but if they used compassion snd the tools for protecting and serving, they would not be as quick to harm children who are ill in some way. Many cops don't treat their family like they treat the public, so they can't really claim they don't know how to work with these children without hurting or killing them. It's really not rocket science. Priorities of the children's safety needs to come before anything else. Punishment should not take center stage on these situations. These are easily teaching moments for child and teacher/cops. I'm not saying it's easy, but have enough common sense to say, I don't know what to do in this situation. Let me get or talk to someone who does.
I'm not a mother. I don't know how to deal with autistic children. I do know everyone has limitations and personal needs. Give people space and let them be who they need to be as the situation is worked through. I have not heard of any autistic person or even non-disabled person act better after they are restrained and controlled when they are already upset. Again, common sense.

Ana, as someone who has worked with children and been a very vocal child advocate I can tell you those who stand up for children can been eaten alive by civil threats, vested interests and just plain bad people. Soccer moms can be ruthless.
I reported children being handled very roughly (these are 2-year olds btw) with seven pages of documentation. Instead of looking into my report or even doing something perfunctory as asking me a single question, the school board hired an attorney who promptly sent a letter stating that I would face “all available legal recourse” if I did not keep quiet about what I witnessed. In other words, punitive lawfare. I was also promptly fired. The people who helped cover the situation up were promoted.
What was more frustrating was I found out just after I submitted my report that I was the THIRD employee (out of a staff of less than 20) to have been fired for similar reasons within the past 18 months, and parents knew about both other cases. Instead of demanding the school look into my report - the victims are their children after all - they completely threw me under the bus. None said they doubted what I said was true (multiple parents later asked if it was their child that had been involved) but rather that the social implications of appearing to siding with me was undesirable. Their kids and those of the board members attended the same social gatherings, were on the same sports teams, et cetera and that would be awkward for them. These are the supposed pillars of the community.
The end result was I was a pariah because I had the audacity to put children’s welfare above my job and social ascension.

They do indeed, they won't though, as usual everything revolves around money... If they don't have the money to pay the people they aren't going to go work there. It's so EXTREMELY sad, especially because the schools that USUALLY need the most attention/help with crisis counseling or just counseling of any type, in general, are the schools in the lower money bracket areas or complete poverty areas and those schools get even LESS MONEY than the rest of the schools. It's terrible. Schools should have enough funding for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they NEED. Considering children spend as much time as they do in school, in the United States, atleast. The kids are in school 9 months out of 12 and for what 8 hours of the day lol.... Yeah American Kids spend more time in school as youths than they spend anywhere else, every single one of us.... You'd think hmmm we need to MAKE SURE THAT ALL schools are getting funded the CORRECT amount of money. ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY PAY FOR SH¡T/SERVICES NEEDED. Look how many teachers pay out of pocket for their students and classrooms because if they don't, they won't get whatever it is they need. That's pathetic. Let's give all these Big Corporations TONS of money every year, EVEN THOUGH THEY ALL ALREADY MAKE MILLIONS/BILLIONS/TRILLIONS... Yeah it's all politics and the WORLDS REVOLVES around money. The greed of some Humans is despicable. 🤢 NOT AT ALL SURPRISING THOUGH!!!
These P¡GS THAT KILLED THAT LITTLE BOY, OH MANNNNN!!!! Oh FCK NO, if I were a family member of his, I HAVE NO DOUBT AT ALL that I would be indicted right next to those farm animals, but for assault with bodily injury and a deadly weapon probably, against them though. I would bring a baseball bat with me, best believe. Do that to my autistic Family Member 😂😂😂😂 AHAHAHAHAHA YEAH I WISH SOMEONE WOULD TRY.... MOTHERFCKERS. 🖕🏻 WHAT THE FCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE, LIKE ARE YOU FCKING SERIOUS. You don't DARE put your hands on ANY CHILD that is NOT YOURS, yeah FCKING RIGHT DUDE. These b¡tches better GO DOWN!!!! I HOPE THEY GET THE ABSOLUTE MOST HARSH PUNISHMENTS POSSIBLE!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️
If your going to work with children/adults with Developmental disorders/delays/diseases, RESEARCH WHAT YOUR JOB ENTAILS.... Clearly your going to know that some Autistic Kids have some crazy Strength! Uhmmm you know that they are probably going to need your help with quite a few things throughout the day, they may say and do things that you don't like but that's too bad, if it's not anything violent or along those lines then be happy. You KNOW there's the possibility of being hit or yelled at and spit at. FCK outta here man. DO NOT WORK WITH PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IF YOU ARE NOT CUT OUT TO DO THE JOB!!!! THEY ARE PEOPLE, NOT TOYS, NOT ANIMALS, and not your little Project...... They should have NEVER done that (put ANY KIND OF RESTRAINTS ON CHILDREN, FOH) to ANY STUDENT. EVER. Clearly Californias B.O.E thought the same and that's why they shut that sh¡t down!!!!! RIGHTFULLY SO!!!!
UGHHH, MY GOD THIS MAKES MY BLOOD B O I L!!! Reason for my paragraphs of ranting 🤦🏻‍♀️ I genuinely apologize!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

This hits to close to home. My son was beat at the local school and it was mostly covered up. I never fully found out what they did with him. The only solution I was able to get was him being fast tracked into his special needs school.
Social services wouldn't help, cops wouldn't help, the school refused to talk to me and then tried to threaten me.
Then again this year (the same school that has to bus him to his school he attends now) allowed a aide to shove him right off his feet and into a seat.
I called all the same people, had meetings. And you think anything changed? No.
No one helps when it comes to our special needs kids, let's be honest not enough people care to.

My cousin works in these class rooms. Teachers & aides in California, are not allowed to touch these kids, AT ALL. There are special trained security helpers, specifically for that. The teachers & aides are trained to only put their arms along side the student, and not touch or restrain them, but they can block them from hitting themselves or others, until the TRAINED staff specifically for very temporary restraint, if needed, and to get further help, if needed ie parent, doctor, cops. This is severe abuse. I'm shocked they're so understanding in this discussion, wow, there's literally zero excuse for this. 20yrs ago, sure, but any time in the past 15yrs, no way! They're TRAINED EXTENSIVELY, to NOT do anything like that.

Not only the way they took Max down but the length of time they restrained him is unacceptable!!! This training is mandatory for anyone working with children and adults with special needs. I also wonder why the SRO, law enforcement and EMS were not called to intervene. I believe this could have been avoided had the teachers followed protocol.

In my nearly 14 year career working with individuals with special needs I have never used a restraint or seen anyone use one for spitting. In none of my restraint use training was spitting ever mentioned as a reason why a restraint would be used. Restraints are traumatic to the individual being restrained and have been somewhat phased out over the years except in extreme circumstances. They are not meant to be used as a method of control but to protect the individual from harming themselves or others. There is typically a written plan regarding the use of restraints which outline the methods that can be used and for how long. Also only the people who are trained in the proper use of restraints are allowed to perform them, at least in my professional experience. I've worked with some very violent individuals where restraint use was definitely a part of their case plan but there were very specific guidelines. I have never restrained a child though.

Oh mann. That second case.. i have 2 special needs kids. 1 more severe than the other. When he was younger there were times hed have to be restrained, but you only do that breifly!! The minute the child starts to calm/become more aware, you change to different calming techniques! I can very easily put myself in the parent position. I understand at least some of what they were dealing with, so this hits even closer to home than other cases. I know we are lucky my kids schools have been great and that as hes gotten older he has gotten better. My heart breaks for this family.
Everywhere we have lived( we moved allot cuz we were military) the special ed teachers were trained in safe restraint techniques, sometimes by psychiatrists sometimes by special instructors, and had to pass testing on the techniques. Allot if the schools had time limits for restraints.. and if by that time limit the child was not calmed down.. they would call 911 and parents.

Yes, I studied Special Ed, and taught in schools, and there is always a protocol for severe behavioral issues. One reason I am not still in the field is the lack of supportive staff and resources, in many schools.

It was a special school so those teachers adults should have been trained properly to look after situations like this… the big fail came from those adults for not calling for help if they couldn’t restrain him humanly… grrrr

I was a Special needs teacher. To restrain a child for 1 hour & 45 minutes is 1. Mind blowing & 2. It tells me this staff had stopped looking at these children as human. The other children had to have been traumatized too. Who restrains anyone for this amount of time? I
t’s good that the school has been closed down. It obviously had grown into a dark, evil culture.

I worked a job last year where the principal referred to this case of the 13-year-old as the reasoning for his rule. Even if he had people on staff who were trained in restraint and knew how to do proper CPI restraints, we were not allowed to according to the school. We were also not allowed to call 911 if a situation escalated to the point we were considering CPI restraint on an individual. We were also not allowed to contact administration if the situation escalated past the point of proper CPI restraint protocol. I point-blank asked the principal what he expected us to do if a situation had escalated to that point if we were not allowed to CPI restrain, call 911, OR contact administration for backup. I wish I were kidding, but I was let go from the program that day for "unprofessional behavior." My "unprofessional behavior" came down to me just asking the question in a very blank tone of voice WITH witnesses who could verify I did nothing wrong.
Yes, I made all the necessary reports, and yes there is an ongoing investigation. Unfortunately, I don't think anything will come of it, nothing ever does. It's going to come down to the point where a student has to kill another student before something gets done about the administration covering their butts to the point of putting both staff and students in extreme danger. A child was hospitalized at the end of last school year (about three months after I was let go for my "unprofessional behavior") because the staff are literally not allowed to do anything, and a STUDENT had to call 911 to get help because the school staff were just standing around. For anyone who thinks this kind of thing doesn't happen and is just made up: I really wish it were.

Restraining a child of that size in a strong and violent way = assault. So, this school, with its specialized services for children with special needs should ABSOLUTELY have a room where a child can have a time-out, so the only restraint would have been to get him there, not wrestle him physically until he died. School closed, lawsuits until everyone involved runs dry!!!!

The brother probably kept collecting benefits because the money was probably direct deposited. If Social Security is not notified they keep sending the benefits.

True. But they’re also supposed to have an appt with you every 12-18 months to go over any new changes. The only time that appt has been waived was during Covid but they still needed updated info (care taker, dr, bank account info, etc.)

It’s horrific, Social Security is direct deposit into an bank account or Electronic Benefits Transaction Account, (EBT) SS would have at payee in place for the young girl. Which requires an annual update of how her funds were being spent. (Rent, food, clothes) this will help with the fraud. Hope these people rot in hell.
A child died at that school, someone or many others are responsible. Justice needs to be served.

Yes special education teachers are required to be trained in intervention techniques yearly. And restraining should only be used as a last result when the safety of others or the child is in danger and as soon as the behavior stops the restraining stops. It is not to be used as punishment!

I have an autistic son who will be 23 next month, he is non verbal and can be a handful when he wants to but he is always smiling, always happy. I can't even imagine someone doing this to him, this is horrible. There is a special place in heaven for kids like this and a very special place in hell for abusers and killers of such children, I assure you,

To kill your disabled sister for money is despicable. I hope she continues to haunt them every time they try and close their eyes in their prison cells. 👻
I’m glad the DA overruled the Sheriff and went after those responsible for Max’s death. He may have been a big boy on the outside but as you said Ana he was only 13yrs and had wet himself and vomited in fear and terror. What that last hour and half must’ve been like for him is unimaginable for one so young with special needs. I know you’ll keep us updated on the case.
Good on you too for the other you helped with where they were locking the little boy in a dark cupboard! I have seen some of your videos as a crime reporter and interviewer. You were and still are awesome 🤩

Anna, in reference to “doesn’t one agency talked to another?” & I can tell you that after having been in LE, NO, NO THEY DO NOT USE COMMON SENSE OR TALK TO EACH OTHER. Its sad but true..with all the technology & programs, you’d think that someones name would get flagged who’s a missing & endangered adult..but no

No one here used common sense. It doesn’t take a law degree or badge to know something is NOT right here!!
