That is watchporn and a great in-depth experience and understanding about how watches witch on the first look are similar still are so different. How did Charles Eames say: the details are not the details, they make the design.
The quality of the Nomos is astonishing for its price: there are several watches which cost 5 times as much and cannot compare in quality. I see a bright future for this company.
The A. Lange & Söhne is one of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen. Maybe someday... Also excellent writing while discussing the details of it. Some of the best work on this channel, and that's not a compliment that should be taken lightly.
Next level stuff, going in neither watch did anything for me, after watching I'm in awe of all three. I think most striking is how close the Nomos is and what an incredible value it is in comparison. True the last one is just so rediculously well finished that the differences are plain to the naked eye, but for the money that Nomos is really nice. I want a Nomos now. Thanks
I am a huge fan of your stories. Not just how they are told, but how you make sure that all of us get what we are looking for, without anyone feeling bad. The Nomos advantages come across as well as those of the Lange. Thank you for your brilliant work in producing these videos.
I've never really been a fan of Nomos, but I have to say the piece in this video gave me pause. A lot of value for dollar/pound. I also have to commend you on selecting what are arguably the pound-for-pound champs at each price point. For my budget, I think the JLC master moon is the finest dress watch I've seen. Add a extra 0 to my salary, and I'd be buying Lange above all others. I know they aren't part of the trinity, but that might/should change. To my mind, Lange is the finest producer in the world.
Who cares about "the trinity"? That's just a trope that developed over time, but it's not set in stone, it means only as much as we give meaning to it. I think Lange has long reached PP, VC or AP levels of craftsmansship, prestige and recognition.
I have a nomos (tangente) and really like it. It is a good value and one of the cleanest designs. That said, agree with you about Lange watches, I think they've blown past the Swiss.
@Dapdoi Ardon You must be kidding. Lange have this horrible heavy German style. Bulky watch with an unappealing colour layout. Patek or VC just ooze class. Lange might perhaps be on par with them technically (though I'm still not convinced) but cannot catch up with them in terms of style.
@Dapdoi Ardon I can't agree more on good finishing. At this price point Patek, Audemar, VC or Lange are all fantastic quality. To me, Patek has this unparalleled and unique combination of pure class, sophisticaton and minimalism at the same time. Lange seems to have some coarseness and crudeness - maybe that is just a matter of somewhat heavier German style. If I had to choose something else that Patek, I would much more lean towards the French Breguet. That is all just a matter of personal preference. It is great that watch lovers have so many spectacular brands to choose from. Cheers.
@@arjdroid seiko in house is not the same definition as Nomos in-house. Seiko 'in-house' that cost $100 are mass produced movements. A better comparison would be Grand Seiko movments vs Nomos, don't you think?
After accepting the challenge of making a bad video you didn’t come through, still one of the best content on RUclips. Hands down. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for yet another great comparative video! But I can't help notice the dirt, fibres, and dust that are present in these three - black material on the screws in the Nomos, dust on the dial and movement of the JLC, and stains on the hands of the AL&S. Am wondering whether these watches have been opened after being factory-delivered? None of those are present in my "more affordable" watches - including a few Omegas - under a loupe (if there's dust I take it back to the service centre and have it rectified). The JLC also had the most shake on the balance wheel among the three, greater than that of the Nomos! The balance wheel on the AL&S was the most stable. Nonetheless, it was a pleasure to see these three in comparison! Keep 'em coming!
Exactly what I was thinking watching this video. That JLC is not in a good shape. So much dirt and that balance wheel wobble it concerning. My $100 Seikos' balance wheels are completely wobble free.
it back in place. Also, the hand adjustment dial was not cut right so it was very hard to screw / unscrew to change the time. It was an average purchase. It does the job of looking nice and feeling
A) the nomos is waterproof. practical beyond the other two. B) the nomos is more shock proof. the applied indices on the jaeger are known to fall off taboot. C) the nomos has lume. D) the nomos is bidirectional in its automatic winding mechanism. E) the nomos is much more thin, due to the date wheel rounding the movement (it's novelty of design perhaps). These are all strong factors, much less the price tag difference. Of course i prefer the Sohne to practically any other dress watch, but they didn't bring in the nomos orion or a more similar model so this is my critique.
Davethenewyorker I agree that it’s an astounding watch for the price and is brilliantly engineered. However every time I see the close ups of the Lange movement I can barely believe what I’m seeing - it seems to be even more breathtakingly beautiful. Still at $80,000 it should be.
Nomos, like Glasshűte Original, are vertically integrated outfits, and their watches are superb value for the money. Jaeger LeCoultre is practically the Swiss watch industry standard, making high quality movements of their own (in many cases). Whilst Lange & Sohne are "probably" the best watchmakers in the world, these days. Unlike Patek Philippe, Audemars, or Girard Perregaux .... Lange & Sohne make everything themselves ..... and all of their watches are realistically priced.
@tommycobain37 The Nomos and Glashütte have the set model range. They can make 1000 dials up front in 3 different colours. Lange has a very small range of watches for which I am sure they make everything in-house. But they as well make a few custom made watches to order, where dials are the work of art and if the customer wants screwed on straps, instead of spring bars? L&S will have to go to a specialst case maker.
Well matter of fact is they (L.a.S.) don't make everything in house. They don't make their cases its a manufacturer in the same town and some of their dials are also produced by a different dial maker in town. @@rickj8859

I gave Nomos a chance when I purchased a Zurich with the Epsilon automatic movement and their brown/gold dial that you either love or hate. I'll be doing a full review, but for now I can say, watch out. Nomos is the first to break many traditions and deliver a watch comparable to a JLC Master Control, which is mid-level. Don't get me wrong, but nomos has much more manual work involved than in the jlc. Nomos simply cannot afford to have automatic machines to do a lot of finishing jobs. It's glashutte bars, blueing and double sunburst are handmade. Jlc, contrary of what you said, it's not. It's a misleading assumption that's the manual labor in a watch that defines it's price. It's one factor, but not the only factor, and by far not the most important. The most important factor that defines luxury products costs is called "market". A product costs what it costs because the market is willing to pay for it. Jlc, for example, has a long reputation that nomos hasn't. And this costs a lot of money.
True, but people who know about watches know Jaeger-LeCoultre as one of the most storied and prestigious of the Swiss luxury brands, with prestige, tradition, high-quality in-house movements, etc. It's not a coincidence that JLC charges as much for their watches.
GS is hyper focused on dial finishing. I think it is actually better than patek and lange. But GS has very industrial movement finishing. Crisp and very precise, but lacking in hand finishing and details.
Yup. I’d like to see the video’s concept done with an SARB or SARX, then a “Snowflake”, then the Credor with the hand-painted porcelain dial. Or go American-made and use RGM and... well, RGM’s good already.
That's fun taking in consideration how the VW group grow to the size of Toyota and the german luxury brand entirely eclipsed Lexus. Seiko is superb; whereas the Japanese auto industry is currently outdated.

This is your masterpiece. An aesthetically beautiful but also informative video. It is with much joy that I watch you honoring the craftsmanship and dedication that has gone into these piece. Thank you for uploading and creating.
It is obvious the finish on the more costly watch has a lot more manual workmanship put in to it. It is obvious the complexity of the higher cost watch is far ahead of the lesser one. As for time keeping they are obviously both terrific time pieces. As for spending thousands on a watch not many people can afford these types of watches. Most people would put the money in to their mortgage, pension plan, paying for the children to go to school, and a car before buying a watch like one of these. These watches are really for the very wealthy types who have the expendable cash to lay out. The production quality and presentation of this video like all the others you do, are among the best on RUclips. Excellent presentation. Well appreciated!

Thank you very much!
I love the clean simple look of Nomos....
One of the best watch dedicated video I've ever seen up to now. It is worth watching and learning.
Amazing videos, this channel is one of the best in regard to watch making and horology.
Are the index markers of the JLC peeling off? Looks like it...
Hey, is it possible to know the NOMOS model number ?
I love the complicated sleek design of A. LANGE & Sohne
