Chris, have you seen the show Our Flag Means Death yet? I think you might enjoy it, it's so good! It's got Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby (from Jumanji & Flight of the Concords), Con O'Neil (from Chernobyl & The Batman), and a whole cast of incredible people. It's funny and dramatic and is very LGBTQIA+ friendly!
Nope 👎 I pass lol 😂 lmfao 🤣 Chris Stuckfuckk
nah bruh
Cris where is Fallout and Shogun??

To this day, Davy Jones’ CGI is some of the best visual effects I’ve ever seen.
Honestly, I may say it is the best
@@AvocadoHank Might just be. I'm trying to think of anything that comes even close to it but no... Maybe Will Smith's Gemini Man is a far second?...
It’s the peak if vfx for sure
I agree 100%. I think the only other thing that can compare (for realism, at least) would be Transformers 2007.
Lmfao 🤣 bro 😎 facts!
3:20
It's significantly more noticeable in 3. The stark contrast between the disney logo and watching a kid being hung at the gallows within 3 minutes is like nothing else
i know a lot of people dislike that opening but i LOVE the tonal contrast. it's the perfect tone setter for this darker finale. i personally see the first 3 as its own trilogy and ignore 4 and 5
I couldn't believe Disney would allow a child being hung. I was gobsmacked!
@@shelfenthusiast I honestly think 4 gets too much flack in retrospect.
If you take it as a side story, or a sort of "further adventures of Jack sparrow" it's pretty inoffensive in mostly solid. The mermaid scene is one of my favorites in the series, and it had a lot of solid moments.
Of course, I only feel this way in retrospect, after the dumpster fire that was 5.
@@nicklafleur7620 Hey, at least 5 had Bardem.
@@coolnerdlll6053 and wasted him
Dead man’s chest is by far the best written in the trilogy it’s so beyond clever with its storytelling, I’ve watched it countless of times it’s just mind blowing. 😤
One of my all time favorite movies.
I have to respectfully disagree with this one. It’s the first one where Jack stops becoming the smartest man in the room to just being a bafoon!
Easily the worst writing of the first 3.
@@joshhunt4146BUT WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT HIM IS WHEN HE MAKES DA GOOFY EYEZZZ
@@joshhunt4146 I completely disagree with you too. 💋 I never loved the first film like everyone else. It just was not as good compared to the sequels.
My favorite Jack sparrow moment in dead man’s chest. Is when Jack couldn’t desire what he wanted, so the compass couldn’t help him out. Jack takes advantage of Elizabeth’s feelings of wanting to save will. In order to convince her, if you want to save Will, you have to desire to want to get to the chest of Davy jones!
If Jack couldn’t figure out what he wanted, he was going to get it out of Elizabeth by manipulation. Jack used Elizabeth in order to get closer to the chest so he could control Davy Jones along with going back and saving Will,
by chance if he’s still alive because Will was only bite for jones, for Jack to have more time to get to the chest, but when he runs into many obstacles of desires, he was lost and confused so he used Elizabeth to figure out how to get the game plan started.
People keep saying Jack’s intelligent went downhill after the first movie, and honestly, what are you talking about? 😂
Fun thing: The man in charge of the VFX is the co creator of Photoshop!!
He also worked in Starship Troopers
Yeah you watch the behind the scenes for this movie it because so clear why it looks so good
ROGUE ONE is his pitch too
That wheel fight amazingly holds up
Davy Jones pounding the organ still hold up as well
So glad you’re reviewing these! The Pirates trilogy is so great. I’m happy 2 and 3 are finally getting the love they deserve
I like the first installment but I will always be a die hard fan for Dead Man's Chest and At World Ends.
I like the sequels better than the 1st for some reason
@@movieace1295Same here. I think it’s due to the scope of the setting being expanded on and the attention to detail that I love. First pirates is still great but for me the sequels really just go for it like nothing else. Really miss when blockbusters were made this way.
@@thedingleberrybush6076 yeah feels more epic and ambitious.
Original still wins for my money. I'll take 2+3 over 4+5 as Gore Verbinski's was a huge miss on those later sequels.
I’ll never forget being a kid and being shocked at Barbossa returning, my jaw was on the floor and I was excited for the next one, good times.
Reading this comment made chills run down my arm cause I completely remember that same feeling after that cliffhanger ending, my friends and I were in shock 😂
I wasn't a kid and I too was so excited when Barbosa returned. It truly was one of those surprise moments you want in a sequel.
I will never forget that jump scare with the guy in the tree, always spooked me!
Rewatched this masterpiece some time ago. Honestly it is a horror movie. There is so much tension, fear, gore, violence, and suffering in there. I have no idea how this used to be the standard. What happened?
he was so goofy hahahahahhahahah
Same. Even knowing it's coming, I still don't see the guy until he reveals himself
@@eyvazhajiyev7762😛😛 ahhh!
Whats wild is some of the CGI, especially the CGI of the skeleton pirates makes even some of today’s blockbusters look like a high school project 😂🤦🏽♂️
I am glad that Dead Man's Chest is getting the recognition it deserves. Easily my favorite bit is that whole Kraken scene
I’m so happy you talked about that ending scene with Jack and Elizabeth. Jacks utterance of that one word I think is Depps best acting in the whole movie.
The original Pirates Trilogy is soooooo much better than we all remember.
The best Pirates movie! Ahh, nostalgia! 🤤
Back when Disney was more willing to take risks
I mean maybe. But the original Pirates of the Caribbean was a massive risk that no one, not even the audience expected to succeed. Most films based off Disney rides have ever come close to its success, even later Pirates sequels.
This was before the days of ESG and DEI. The good ole days. Millennials and GenZ strike again. Those two generations are literal shit on a stick
@@theStacyJames Says the guy whose generation literally embraced authoritarianism and conspiracies after years of claiming the internet would rot our brains.
@@benwasserman8223 I'm Gen X shit for brains. None of us embraced authoritarianism. "Fuck You I won't do what you tell me."
@@theStacyJames lmao piss off. What are you even doing here? This is not your average ragebait grifter manbaby youtube channel that blames the „woke forced content“ for not being able to get laid and would slam this movie if it came out today for whatever it is that Elisabeth is doing at any point. Chris has a channel of substance. The issues are all corporate based, not some minority that you feel threatened by.
i'm so glad this movie is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves. very underrated movie with genuine well defined stakes, great character work, a phenomenal score, and incredible effects that still hold up today. i love this movie and i can't see many blockbusters today living up to what this was able to achieve in 2006
Dude, really? Since when did this film not get the recognition it deserves? Everyone loves this!
@@cinemaspire7258 when it first released critics and audiences were divided. most reviews of it are pretty mixed. it was not very well recieved in 2006.
@@cinemaspire7258Not really, people hated this movie and 3 for some reason! Weird as hell tbh, it’s a great movie.
People often give this film a lot of grief but it's brilliant. The three way sword fight is STILL one of my favourite fight sequences in any movie. Loved this.
I remember as a kid watching when Elizabeth kissed jack and thinking what a fool he is for thinking someone as attractive as Keirra Knightley would fancy someone as unkempt as him. Only to find out like 5 or 10 years later that Johnny Depp was someone people find one of the most attractive men on planet earth and for many more so than Orlando Bloom. For many people who are gay, or Bi they have a moment they knew. I guess this was the moment I can definitively idenitfy that I was straight, as I didn't even imagine Johnny Depp could possibly be an attractive person.
This movie was an event for me. This movie was the 2000's equivalent of Infinity War.
I was 10 watching this in theaters opening night. The cliffhanger at the end is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Barbosa showing up at the end made me feel things very few films have ever made me feel. This retrospective review brought back those great memories. Thank you for that, Chris!
The cliffhanger was far better than the cliffhanger at the end of Infinity War
I think it's amazing that the CGI of Davy Jones still holds up to this day and I can't think of a CGI character that is better, even to this day it could rivel many marvel villians CGI
In direct comparison it wouldn‘t, at least technologically. There was no regress in possibilities. Bad VFX is an issue of Time crunch, money and worker exploitation. Any element of him can be theoretically done better. He works because of his incredibly specific design, an artistic vision, a perfectly planned motional concept, and brute force of some very very skilled people. In short: he is just unusually fleshed out.
Side note: There is the myth that goes around that his eyes and mouth are real but those have been fully replaced too, since it‘s easier. The originals were reference though
Gollum is close.
Weirdly enough, it was just a few days ago that I was rewatching all the Kraken scenes from this movie. My goodness they still hold up insanely well…and so viscerally too. Amazing scenes!
Thank you for loving Deadmans chest. 🥹
The Kraken theme and attack when there is that wide shot and the organ is roaring loudly like Ennio Moricone score... maaaaan that was one of the most powerful theater memories ive had... I felt like bursting in tears it was so great
Me and my brother saw this movie 5 times in the theater. This was one of the greatest movies of the early 2000’s
The best in the saga easily
As a kid, the moment after the kraken roared at Jack, that was the first time I ever experienced "feeling the silence" in a movie theater.
"Hello, beastie."
Sparrow charging into the jaws of the kraken after spending the whole movie running from it still gives me chills.
Yeah even the moment he came back to ship during the Kraken attack after fleeing and leaving everyone to die. Truly epic
My favorite of these movies.
Nooo wayy I just rewatched this last weekend and I can’t stop thinking about it😂 of course Chris drops this video on it. Crazy timing
I remember seeing this opening night, too, and being SO excited. I thought this one was even better than the first - my favorite of the PotC movies! Great soundtrack, Davey Jones looks amazing, big epic moments, I love it all.
My friends and I dressed up as pirates to wait in line in our smallish town (35k) movie theater and ended up in the newspaper.
This movie deserves an IMAX re-release
Damn... seeing that movie ticket for less than $9 is wild. Feels like you have to take out a small business loan to go to the movies nowadays lol
Especially with kids!
I'm LOVING these new videos Chris!
Me too 😊 they're really good.
POTC 2 and 3 are very underrated. They’re just as good as the first one imo! Great CGI, humor, and genius action!
I recently watched the first 3 Pirates movie and I absolutely loved them. When I read the reviews, people seemed to dislike the movies, especially 2nd and the 3rd movie which I don't understand. These movies sound and look absolutely beautiful and has good writing at places. Definately deserves more love.
I remember going to see Narnia in 2005 and the teaser trailer happened for this movie. The theater absolutely lost their minds. This is probably my favorite in the series.
My absolute favorite of the saga!
Dead Man's Chest has always been my favorite in the franchise. It's so much fun and so excellent!
You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say all these things. I got so much crap for loving Pirates 2 & 3 back in the day. I think I’ve seen Dead Man’s Chest the most out of all of them and it was also the first movie where I was there to see it on opening day! The CGI, score, and storytelling is all spectacular and it sets up At World’s End extremely well. Speaking of At World’s End, please review it next 😁
One of the greatest sequels ever made.
When the organ starts playing when rthe Kracken finally destories that boat will forever be epic
I didn't love it at first, but I feel like Dead Man's Chest holds up REALLY well over time. The characters chemistry is incredible in this film & while the story isnt amazing, it's still an incredible film overall
Love these feature presentations !
Love your presentations ty for content!
Love these man, pls keep them coming! Also, thanks for your advice on better help, it's really helping!
Love this feature presentation review absolutely
The unique style continues to be awesome
For me this Trilogy has everything. It’s my go to movie when movies in general disappoint me. It has a good mix of mystery, fairy tale , Romance, lore, comedy and good action.
I remember watching At Worlds End at the cinema as a teenager with a load of mates, and because we were late all the seats were full and we had to sit on the floor. Me and a girl i liked at the time left and wandered around but i still felt like i missed out because i really wanted to watch the film. To this day i still watch At Worlds End and it has this magical feeling to it. The 1st 3 Pirates films are brilliant!
I wish there were more films with wooden man-o-war type sailing ships and cannon battles...the're so rare.
Thank you. Finally!!
Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End are regarded as “less than” Curse of the Black Pearl by many which I’ll never understand. The entire trilogy is masterful, quirky, beautiful, dark, and widely entertaining. I even personally prefer Dead Man’s Chest over Black Pearl. The stakes are higher, each of our protagonist’s get more depth, the villain is fascinating, and the sets are some of the greatest to grace the silver screen. This trilogy was my generation’s Star Wars and it’s been very interesting to see it come more to light as we’ve entered adulthood.
Love your work! Keep going ❤❤❤
Pirates 2 is an incredible movie, and is always overlooked as one of the best sequels ever made!
Damn it now I have to rewatch them all lol. Huge fan of your work Chris.sending love from Florida 🙏🏽
I can quote so many scenes in their entirety from DMC and AWE. I don't even think I saw them in theaters but I feel like I have because they are so beloved to me.
i LOVE this series!!
I’m so happy to see you review this movie. The past few days I’ve been rewatching all of the pirates films, so this feels very topical. Dead Man’s Chest is my favorite
Filmento did, if I remember correctly, 2 great videos about this movie, showing how great the chest (or the key to it) is as a plot device and how the whole movie is perfect sequel as almost every plot element builds upon stuff that happened in the first one
Ill never forget seeing this opening weekend. that reveal at the end is still a top 10 theater moment.
One of the best adventure movies ever made and I will die on that hill.
Amazing video!!!
The 3-way sword fight is one of my favorites sword fights in film
YAY! MORE FEATURE PRESENTATIONS!!!
This is the empire strikes back for the pirates films. Dark, bold, different, and a huge cliffhanger.
This is my favorite in the franchise
I LOVE THE PIRATES SEQUELS! So happy to see Chris talking about them.
LOVE the intro!!
I remember seeing the cliffhanger in the theater.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, gasped.
The cliffhanger was far better than the cliffhanger at the end of Infinity War
the wheel fight scene is one of the best in cinema!
10 minutes doesnt scratch the surface to how deep this movie is
Thank you for this comment 🙌
My favorite childhood movie! Thank you for taking the time to review this, Chris
Love your unique style, never change!
This was the best movie of the franchise my favorite. I left universal studios when this came out me and my cousin went to go see this and my mom called asked where we were I told her we went to see this movie she got so pissed and whooped me when I got home. She said I wasted her money and we can see a movie when ever but the excitement for this movie was so great: the whooping was worth it. Me and my cousin was enjoying the hell outta this movie.
I remember begging my mom all day to take me to the midnight showing for this movie (wish those were still a thing) and had no idea the level of hype this movie had and we pull up to the theater and there were hundreds of people in line and it was sold out! Went to see it the next night with a friend and the only two seats left were in the very top right corner. I miss the days of no reserved seating and the excitement of showing up early and scrambling for the good seats!
Genuinely, the intro alone makes me feel just so damn GOOD! Thanks for that Chris.
I've been waiting to watch this for awhile now 😍😍
I might be commenting too late for this to be seen but I'm really enjoying the new Feature Presentation series. I always look forward to the next one.
I recently rewatched the trilogy and it’s STUNNING! To this day, the CGI looks AMAZING, for a 15 year old trilogy it’s mind blowing. I’m a huge fan of Pirates, I will forever be in awe of its achievement.
Love your shirt!
Love seeing this movie get appreciation! Was about 10 when this came out and was blown away. Still remember wearing the Key from the happy meal toys around my neck hahaha thanks for the video
The first three pirates movies are just so good and fun. Always enjoyed them
I literally just finished the first three movies, that’s some crazy timing for you to visit this
Great review, I just watched this movie again this weekend, this is one of my favorite movies for so many reasons , great writing, great acting, great score. This film has such sentimental value to me when it came out I went with my father and my youngest son. Unfortunately for me and my family neither of them are with us anymore. Seeing this film again reminds me of my father, and my son laughing and loving this movie
Watched this on movie night with my 9 year old boy on Friday and he loved this one. Was so good to see it again but through his eyes. Going through so many movies with him at the moment, loads of 80s classics as well. Loving it.
His laughing when Jack was bouncing around on the pole, cartoon character styles was SO great! I recall not enjoying it so much before, but did this time. Great fun movie, that, like you say, probably wouldn't be made today.
Honestly I always preferred Dead Man’s Chest over the first one. I think it was the dark batshit nature of it mixed with still awesome swashbuckling adventure that made me love it. All I know is Pirates wasn’t the same after Gore Verbinski left.
You're so cool to review this now I'm definitely watching again.
Amazing! I love that the trilogy as a whole gets recognized more now! Please do At World's End too
I enjoy all of these movies. Yes, even 4 and 5. The adventures for each are interesting, I like having a morally gray protagonist, Jack, who is self serving but will do right by people, most of the time. We probably won't get more of that for a very long time
I've never been able to watch this movie without falling asleep.
One of my favorite movies
The kraken theme and Davy Jinrs has been part of my soul since 2006
I remember this movie because this is first (and only movie) I sat front row for. Looking back it would have been better to be in the middle, but this back in the day where you just got a ticket and you had to find an empty seat.
I remember driving to like 5 different theaters on opening night and every single showing was sold out! Had to wait until the next day to see it, caught the first showing on Saturday and it was STILL packed. Still one of my favorite moviegoing memories.
One of the most underrated sequels to me. I just like the ambitious feel and dark tone. Perhaps two and three could have been standalones, but Dead Mens Chest is a fantastic experience.
Maccus I had an action figure of when I was little. So happy these movies are loved today.
Man I remember seeing this opening night! I do miss those times, but I also love how I can get reserved VIP seats where I can lean back and drink booze.
One of my favorite movies ever. An absolute classic.
This movie gives me nostalgia of summer days wheen we went to theater with our buddies.
Can’t believe you didn’t mention the music and aesthetics, during the scene where Davie Jones is playing piano in his ship cathedral.
I know that feeling of excitement you are talking about when you see a movie. Seems like something that was only happening in the past. I haven’t felt that type of hype or excitement for a movie in years
