Hey pals! Trying out something new, and posting the bigger movie reactions and gaming related vids on the main channel! This year, I want to focus on this channel primarily (still with an emphasis on gaming and nerd related things), while the reaction channel remains for extras and shows :) Plus, this movie meant a lot to me, so it definitely deserves the MAIN channel honor, lol. Who was your favorite in this film?

I have to say, seeing Kevin frickin' Bacon, of all people, open this movie with a scene entirely spoken in German, gave me new respect for the man! But Fassbender takes the crown, in a cast of pure gold, and he still moves me to tears with his performance 🙌
Comics readers know tho, this movies one cardinal sin is that that energy ball would NOT have killed Darwin. Bad form, he deserved better than to tick the "black character gets killed" box 😑

Cool fact the coin kill was hinted in the beginning when Eric throw the coin at Shaw’s picture.
Also this movie makes every scene of Magneto and Professor X together more emotional for me like they are actually long friends who just disagree on very important issues. Last stand is more sad after seeing how Magneto saw Charles as his brother it just makes Charles death more depressing because it’s seeing an old man sees his best friend die then right after Charles dies he gets Jean Grey to continue the revolution that was inspired by Charles on introducing in First Class that his not alone and they need our help.

This movie easily has the most fun tone in the series, fully embracing the adventurous and colorful vibe of the 1960s X-Men comics. The costumes are bright, the personalities have room to shine, and for once, it’s not just Wolverine stealing the spotlight. It does take a lot of creative liberties with the source material though.
    *Comics First Class:*
In the original comics, the first X-Men lineup consisted of Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Iceman, Angel, and Beast. At the time, Beast didn’t have his blue fur (originally gray) he was just a regular guy with large hands and feet. Banshee and Havok were part of the 1960s comics, but they weren’t part of the original team. Specifically, Havok is Cyclops' younger brother in the comics, whereas the movie flips that dynamic.
The team was, of course, led by Professor X, who was already paralyzed and bald before forming the X-Men. In the comics, Xavier lost his hair around the time he graduated high school, so it’s pretty unique to see him with hair in any rendition. Magneto, meanwhile, is always depicted with platinum blonde or white hair in the comics, which I wish the film had stayed true to since I totally see Michael Fassbender rocking white hair.
    *Charles and Magneto’s Connection:*
In the comics, Charles Xavier met Max Eisenhardt (later known as Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, aka Magneto) while working at a psychiatric hospital, where they treated Holocaust survivors. During this time, they encountered Hydra, and while fighting against its forces, they revealed their mutant abilities to each other.
The film combines Charles Xavier’s formation of the X-Men, his first meeting with Erik, and the loss of his legs into a single storyline. Along with Magneto forming his Brotherhood of Mutants at the end.
    *Mystique & Charles?*
In the comics, Mystique is not connected to Charles at all and is actually much older than him. She’s been alive since at least the Victorian era and even took on the identity of Sherlock Holmes at one point. By the time the X-Men were formed, she would be closer in age to Wolverine than to Xavier.
    *Why so many changes?*
Alot of these changes make sense within the film’s timeline. If they had followed the comics exactly, characters like Scott, Jean, and Bobby would either be way too young or not even born yet. So, the filmmakers had to adjust to fit within the established continuity of the movies. The whole Mystique aspect though is... Well a creative choice I guess.
I would’ve loved to see a more comic-accurate lineup of characters, even if it meant going against the canon of the original films, a full reboot set in the '60s. A lineup that would include Marvel Girl, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel. Ideally, it would take place within the MCU, but set decades before the Avengers, which would be a fun way to introduced the X-Men into the MCU now that Marvel has the rights.

One major flaw with this movie that a lot of people have is Darwin's death. Dying to a small ball of energy was incredibly unrealistic and annoyed a lot of people lol

Since this movie came out the same year as Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Marvel had actually planned cameos of a young Erik Lehnsherr and a POW Logan. There’s no official info beyond this, but I personally think Captain America could’ve rescued Logan from Hydra. As for Erik, maybe there was supposed to be a scene where Captain America frees the concentration camp Erik was held in, only for Erik to use his mutant powers to help Cap. Afterward, Cap casually asks the kid’s name, revealing him to be Erik Lehnsherr.
Unfortunately, due to legal rights issues, these cameos never came to be :(

The one-two punch of X3 and XMO:W was like Batman Forever and B&R, they still made money but nowhere near as much as hoped, and fans weren't happy, and the next one had to "course correct" or it would be time to kill it or reboot it. This *was* a soft reboot of sorts, it introduced the new cast but managed to save all the established canon (although this series has the messiest timeline of any serialized franchise, they violate continuity and retcon with nearly every movie)

    X-Men debuted 60+ years ago.
Without a doubt, it's among the most legendary of Marvel Comics.
But to tell the backstory of these characters within in the film franchise was a great idea.
Because in this universe, they've been around just as long.
Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Kick-A**, The Kingsman franchise) helmed this one.
Casting of the characters was great especially with McAvoy as Xavier and Fassbender as Lernsherr.
The building of the past for Children of the Atom with history we already know in the 20th century.
Putting the Hellfiire Club on screen had been in early drafts of the first X-Men film in the 90s.
Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw (cold and calculating) and January Jones aa Emma Frost (superhot) were perfect too.
Part of a summer full of multiple Marvel movies along with Marvel Studios' Thor and Captain America:The First Avenger.
Even with the newer MCU at the time, the X-Universe on film could stand toe to toe.
Your gonna love the follow up to X-Men First Class.
Believe me, it will be a union and reunion to remember.

I have such mixed feelings about the X-Men franchise. On the one hand, I hate the way the "good" mutants are the ones that cooperate with their would-be oppressors and hope that one day they'll change hearts and minds. On the other hand, I hate that the "bad" mutants are the ones with all the valid points but they're also hardened eugenicists. I either have to root for the side that wants to eradicate their genetic "inferiors", or the pick-me side trying to change the bad system from within. Making it worse is the way that the "bad" mutants are shown to be these broken people with dark pasts, as if they'd obviously be on the "good" pick-me side if they weren't damaged.

As a species we’ve cultivated a mental connection between being peaceful and being good. In that kind of a world, not rocking the boat is seen as good. Not making problems for those with more power is good. Acting in everyone’s best interests is bad, because that isn’t peaceful. We’ve made ourselves exceptionally easy to control that way. Those who cannot be easily controlled are violently broken as hard as possible until they stop resisting. Letting things stay broken the way they want would ironically be the most intense form of retaliation I can imagine; it’s rare and kind of satisfying for peace to be the most direct path to revenge. Feels good.

Excited for what this year brings. I’ll be honest, I’m not very interested in game stuff so it kinda stinks that it seems like we’ll get less reactions. Idk maybe I understood it wrong.

I think I prefer Days of Future Past, but it's really close. Definitely watch the Rogue Cut, it has some vital scenes that were cut from the theatrical release!

Oh, since there's a good chance you watch X-Men 97, just some comments on whether you should watch the 90's cartoon first or not. There's a number of things that are plot twist or big moments in the original cartoon that are rather casually given away in 97. And while 97 is I believe totally watchable for folks who never saw the original cartoon or read the comics, you'll have a lot more context. On the other hand, the original X-Men cartoon has plenty of moments, but it isn't the timeless masterpiece that it's contemporary Batman TAS is. So I could see it feeling more like homework.

The reason Darwin didn’t survive had to be racially motivated. The most powerful member of the team, someone who whole power is to survive no matter what…dies. Once the Goddess of death touched him, and he became a God of death…there’s no way anything shown in these movies could kill him.

@5:43 The thing is, coins are made of non-ferrous materials, so they're not magnetic. You don't make coins out of iron. So unless I'm misunderstanding Magneto's powers, he couldn't have moved to that coin.

It's not just iron that is subject to magnetism. German coins of that period were made with silver, bronze and nickel. Both bronze and nickel are affected by magnetic force...

19:01 This cameo was always forced to me. Wolverine didn't need to be in almost every film. He should have only been in the original trilogy, his 3 solo films and Deadpool 3.

    • @mariebourgot4949
      @mariebourgot4949 6 дней назад

Even his three solo movies were too much. If they only did Logan out of the three, it would've been perfect. I think they overused Wolvie way too much, even "stealing" the role of Kitty Pryde in DOFP. I mean I love Wolverine and the work of Hugh Jackman, but he's not the only x-men. I prefer when they are a team and everyone get the spotlight in turn like in '97!

@@mariebourgot4949 Yep. The 90's cartoon and 97 understood it was about the whole team and each individual member of it. The Fox films were more like "Wolverine featuring the X-Men."
