I'm an American fan of the Geelong Cats. What this video doesn't show is the loose ball scrambles. A loose ball in the NFL means someone screwed up, but a loose ball is a common part of the game in the AFL, and very exciting.
I lived in SE Asia for eight years. The Australia Network TV channel would broadcast AFL games on weekends. I had an American workmate who was absolutely addicted to AFL.
I'm a true blue Aussie who's played footy/ AFL most of my life. It's Soo awesome to see the Americans and the rest of the world enjoyed our great game . Much love from down under 🦘
Great reaction mate, you didn’t talk through it, you listened. Bounce is badly explained, You have to bounce it sometime “before” running 15 m. Players know if they take a few steps then bounce it will be before 15 m. Score of 120-10-130 means 20 goals x six points each equals 120 points, +10 behinds = 130 total points. (Which decides the game.) One of the most famous final quarters in AFL history is the 2005 semi-final between Sydney and Geelong. You can search for the final five minutes of that if you want to react to it. It is a super exciting finish. If you want to watch a fantastic whole game where the lead kept changing constantly search for the 2012 grand final between Sydney and Hawthorn. You can play the game yourself if you like. In the states there is the USAFL, comprised of 40 different leagues, including the women’s league. Because it’s amateur it’s nowhere near as brutal as our game, and it’s more of a social event for people to play and have barbecues and beers after the game. Other American people reacting have managed to find televised games as they happen live. Obviously a time difference but you can check that out if you want You will be blown away if you check out, “Lance Franklin’s best 23 goals.” Trust me, you will be in awe of this man. Cheers.
The Fox Sports secondary channels tend to carry the sport here in the US, in my experience. They are live, though, so the time zone situation means you're probably gonna be better off DVRing them if you don't wanna risk your sleep schedule.
In Australian terms you have to bounce the ball within 15 meters. It is not every 15 meters, it is within. So once you run the full yards without bouncing the opposition gets a free quick.
more like a free kick The rule is you must bounce at least once every 15m. So yes, as long as you don't further than 15m without bouncing you're fine. Most adult players will bounce the ball every 9-12 steps at a full run. Kids between 10-15 probabaly more like 15
Bouncing the ball is just a rule to give a defender a chance of catching a ball carrier on a fast break , a basic rule of thumb is 10 steps is about 15 metres or 16 yards
@leopoldstotch7711 10 steps.. 1 metre is generally 1 step at walking pace, but at jogging to sprinting pace each stride is about 1.5m for the average person, making it about 10 steps
The AFL has club salary caps and gives better draft picks to the weaker teams to help even out the competition..it's good because there are more close matches these days. Also new rules have come in recently to make the play more free flowing and high scoring & has worked quite well
As one brought up on Soccer, I love this game - as well as soccer and Rugby League of course. One of the best rules in AFL is the 50 metre penalty, applied if a player kicks the ball away or otherwise deliberately tries to delay the taking of a free kick. This means the free kick is taken 50 meters down the oval - sometimes right in front of the goal!! It's certainly a rule that I'd love to see taken up by soccer - modified to 10 metres. And I like the method of timekeeping, which is governed completely separately from the ref/umpire, and the clock is stopped the second the ball is out of play and not restarted until it's back in play again. And AFL could do with the adoption of soccer's yellow and red cards.
Nice reaction!! Watching these footballers take a speccie (spectacular mark) made you sit up and take notice. If you want to see more check out 'best of the decade' or Top 50 AFL Marks of all time'

A lot of people wonder about the 16 yards/15 meters. It is just "gut feel", from watching/umpiring a lot of matches. assume this will get suggested enough, the top 50 afl marks. A mark being a catch, same thing.
It becomes second nature after a while. You sort of get a feel for what 15m is. But to play it safe you’d probably bounce it every 10 or so metres to not run too far and turn the ball over with a free kick.
@@harrykatsaros yeah, there’s sort of a ‘safe rhythm’ of perhaps 8 long strides, bounce, 8 long strides, etc. and then when a player stretches that to 14-15 strides, you can actually feel the stadium collective clench in anticipation of the whistle as the player either finally bounces/kicks, or the whistle does blow

One thing that these videos don't mention is that when you use another player to catch a ball (a mark) is that you aren't allowed to use your hands to get on them. It is a high paced game and some players can run up to 25km during a game and they only have 4 on the interchange.

To answer your question about the 16 yards it's the same as asking a basketballer how does he know he hasn't travelled, it's just instinct. Aussie Rules per head of Capita is the most spectated sport in the world, the record attendance was back in 1970 with 121,696 spectators at the MCG, since then standing room has been replaced with seating and it only holds 100,000 people now. The Collingwood Magpies are the most supported club with home games averaging over 80,000 and a million plus through the turnstiles every season, they are also the most successful club of all time with the most premierships and the best win rate over 128 years of the competition. 🏳🏴

How do you know you've run 16 yards ? ... You mark out 16 yards on the ground then count the steps you take to get to the end. You get a run up to hit the pace by the time you get to the first mark though. The umpires would know how many paces it takes and count the players paces to penalise them by giving the ball to the opposing team if they take a couple too many paces.
In AFL ( Australian football league)It's called a screama( screamer) when you jump up on someone's shoulders to take a mark .. women also play ... WAFL...AFL players can run up to 18klms about (10 miles) a game ..you got to be superfit ...a normal training night 10 x 400 meters then 10 x 50 meter sprints then circle passing kicking hand passing 200 meter circle then Indian file 20 players joging last one has to sprint past all to get to front then he leads about 30 minutes of this ..non stop..then one on one chase down 50 meter kick against your opponent fighting tackling to get ball back to kicker and lots more drills can be 3 hours of intensive training ...2x per week + match ..so you have probally ran 50klms that week half at full speed... sometimes a run down the roads would be ten klms at training .
Trouble with growing up with this sport in your life is that it makes other team sports look a bit stilted. No offside means a 360degree potential and playing on at all cost to catch the opponent off guard means continuous flow.High impact means you need eyes in the back of your head.As a fan your heart pumps with the action and you also get less time to catch your breath. You can hear the crowd roar at most plays as you near the stadium. Its a religion to many.

Just saying, 130 - 120, like it said in there is very high scoring, the normal is like 70-90 as a winning side, losing side might be like 60, for average that is.
A "mark" is NOT a "spectacular catch" - it is a catch from a kick launched no less t5 metres (about 16 yards) awat - most marks are quite mundane really!
They use yards to explain this to American audience. Here it is actually 15 metres. The metric system is so basic you can actually sense when they have over done it, give or take a metre. If someone does something spectacular or brave, they will tend to give an extra metre or two. If you are flat footed or under no pressure, you will sometimes see they get penalised just before said distance. Sounds crazy, but it’s what makes the crowds electric. Constant shouting and yelling at eachother over who had the greatest injustice. Good comparison is how the travel rule in the NBA seems pretty loose since the end of the 90’s. Interpretations change, same for the NFL :) frustrating in the case of the NBA. Makes it harder to claim GOAT. Keep it keeping it real brother.
I like your production brother. 10x most reviewer's screen set-up. PS. An old school yell from the crowd to the umpire when a goal is scored is... "How big' s ya dick" (And he points the 2 fingers). PS. The sport actually kinda comes from a traditional aboriginal game 1,000's of years old called MANROOK.
Now, I'm lucky, on my travels I've been to a few different sports, took in a Raiders Bills game a few years ago, a Golden Knights game in Vegas, Scotland France Rugby last year (I stay about 30 min drive from Murrayfield), but the best game I was at was about 11 years ago when I went to an Essendon Hawthorn AFL game...... pretty much non stop action, and it only seemed to stop when there was an out and out fight, or at the end of a quarter. If you think about it this way, a bit like MMA and a ball game happens to interrupt the fighting. The one problem with USA sports is all the commercial breaks....... and you'll notice I haven't been to a soccer (as you call it) game, simply because it's played by a bunch of pussies
😹🙀 Little Johnny in the family law court. Judge asks Johnny, do you want to live with your dad? Johnny says no he beats me all the time. Judge asks, do you want to live with your mum? Please react to AFL Biggest Hits Part 1
When you grow up playing it you know when you should bounce the ball
A "mark" is NOT a "spectacular catch" - it is a catch from a kick launched no less t5 metres (about 16 yards) awat - most marks are quite mundane really!
No more than half an NFL team could play Aussie. No O or D interior linemen would be fit enough to play 80 mins of more or less continuous action.
Flex you oke??? Just asking no vids for a while hope you are good my man.
Im good! Thank you for the concern. I was A bit Sick for a while and honestly had 0 energy. But im getting Back into the rhythm:)
@@Flexx2nicEReacts oke man take it easy health is important good to see you back .
Go Pies !!!!!!
Top 50 marks

Eagles vs swans rivalry
I’m a footy nerd
you dnt really know when you've gone 16 yards yu just gotta remember every 5-10 strides
I like your production brother. 10x most reviewer's screen set-up.
PS. An old school yell from the crowd to the umpire when a goal is scored is... "How big' s ya dick" (And he points the 2 fingers).
PS. The sport actually kinda comes from a traditional aboriginal game 1,000's of years old called MANROOK.
you're amazed by players using other players as a step ladder.....look at best marks ever
Shaun Smith leapt onto an opponents shoulders
you just know when you run 15m
Well said and you hit the nail on the head regarding soccer. I have been unable to watch that abomination of a game for more than 20 years.
Aye mate make a reaction on the afl biggest hits 😂
HOT PIES 2023
The season is on now bro go West Coast Eagles
Just to let you know, the U.S has now nearly as big afl competition as Australia. Heaps of teams.
The most electric sport on the planet when played the right way...if it was invented in the northern hemisphere it'd be the biggest too
any aussie watching this to get ma at americans?
Gotta support collingwood. theyre the most hated team but very loyal supporters. hop on the bandwagon while we are shit
😹🙀 Little Johnny in the family law court. Judge asks Johnny, do you want to live with your dad? Johnny says no he beats me all the time. Judge asks, do you want to live with your mum? Johnny says no she beats me too. Judge asks, well who do you want to live with? Johnny says, the Collingwood football club because they never beat anybody. 😊🤣
Lol top 4 this comment aged well.🤣
Geez this aged badly. They were a kick away from Grand Final last season and are favourites to win it this year.
