They are vocally the most talented girl group in kpop. Argue with the wall. No but seriously they have GORGEOUS vocals. I recommend you to react to their Killing Voice performance. It's like a high quality live performance of a medley of their songs.
I just found your channel and I just have to say YES, I am so glad that you reacted to these STUNNING girls because WOW (I just watched your Dreamcatcher and your (G) I-DLE reactions, now Mamamoo) I just want to say these Girls are insane one of the best Girl Groups in K - Pop! I LOVE each one of their songs but I will say I think that Starry Night has to be my favorite (by the way they filmed it in New Zealand) (but I will say I LOVE every single one of these songs they are just WOW) they are legit the Queens of Vocals (with Red Velvet) they also are LGBT Queens as well they are just overall AMAZING I love everything about them Solar is a Power House that does not care what other people think, Moonbyul is our Handsome Rap Queen (she has to be my favorite Rapper in K - Pop), Wheein is so underrated Vocally and Visually (she also can Rap pretty well) she is also our Ace of the Group, and Hwasa is our QUEEN of Queens like WOW she does not care what other people think and she is such a Sweetheart! Anyways I can't you to react to more Mamamoo such as more Music Videos, B - Sides, Live Performances, Covers, Dance Practices, Moments, and of course Ships! If you ever need any good Videos I could totally help you out with that if you need it, also you should DEFINITELY check out Red Velvet (if you haven't yet) like I said they are also Vocal Queens they are also considered as LGBT Queens, B - Side Queens, and Summer Queens and not only thst but one of the Members aka Wendy has to be my favorite Vocalist in K - Pop because her voice is so versatile she can literally change her voice she can also Rap very well (and dance), all of the Members are like Aces! You should also check out Blackpink (again if you haven't yet... I think you might of) but they are PHENOMENAL as well they were actually my first K - Pop Group and probably my favorite or at least have a special place in my heart. Another Group you should check out again if you haven't are Twice (I know how you feel I'm not the biggest fan of bubble gum pop, but somehow I'm more or a Girl Group stan) Twice doesn't really do that but they are definitely poppy but they KILL it, it's not very cringey at all and they do have Mature concepts as well plus they are also LGBT Queens (pretty much all of the Girl Groups are). Other Groups you should DEFINITELY check out are Loona (very diverse and the choreography is insane with them), Aespa (AMAZING Rookies they are definitely going to be big, well they already are), PIXY (VERY underrated they are like if Dreamcatcher and (G) I-DLE had a baby and their concepts are INSANE), Purple Kiss (They are legit like if Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher had a baby they are also AMAZING), GFriend (They are underrated and they had AMAZING choreography and vocals), there are many more Groups as well but I can't name them all and then some Soloists that you should check out are Sunmi, IU, Taeyeon, BOA, Hyoyeon, etc!
The girl with the short blonde hair in Starry Night is Wheein. The girl with the long blonde braid is Solar. Starry Night and Egotistic are just 2 of their more latin sounding songs. They actually have one of the most diverse discographies in K-pop IMO. They are known for their incredible vocals and stage presence. They were often asked to perform at awards shows as they are known to be really good at getting audience participation through their iconic ability to ad-lib on stage. Anyways I hope you continue to enjoy getting to know Mamamoo.

THe best guide is "Introducting Mamamoo" part 1 & 2, more abt. the individual personalities, and "Mamamoo story" is more abt. the group, how they fight together from busking on the street promoting their music to where they are now, as they are the 1st group from a small label, they are look down by many ppl even in the music industries before debut but they prove they are talented artists, broking all the Korean standards of gg, their songs often promote female empowerment, body positivity and self-love. Even the story of how they being rejected from many companies before debut and later become close friends/members , just like a family is inspiring .
I used to recommend "Mamamoo's journey" which is abt. their road to success, very touching one but dunno why it disappear in YT now.
All members have successful solo albums and projects. Can check "mamamoo dinggo killing voice and " immortal song medley ", they are vocal queens, live is always better.
the 2 most requested videos are Mamamoo Killing Voice(it's a live medley with their title track videos starting from their debut song going all the way up to their most recent song: Aya) and Immortal Songs Medley(these are rearranged songs of older artists from 60's, 70's, etc). after these 2 pick whatever you want from Mamamoo. there's no miss in anything you will choose. even their funny compilation videos are good cause they're comedians/crackheads. they are legit labeled as beagle-idols in Korea for being comedians/crackheads
MAMAMOO may not be "that" famous internationally, but they are well-known and respected in South Korea. They are one of the best vocal groups in the Kpop industry and even won competitions like Queendom (a talent competition between girl groups) as well as Immortal Songs which they have also won in their "rookie years". They are the epitome of a real "ARTIST" and they have the word "Talent" written all over them.

You basically us when we first time found Mamamoo and instantly madly in love with their beautiful voices, mature songs, lovely lyrics, sophisticated music & charismatics individual persona. And their MVs are always something else. And each member is also a fabulous soloist with albums to their own names. You might want to check their solo songs sometimes because individualy they have very distinct mature aesthetics. And yes, in their earlier albums, Hwasa did rap.

In case you're not sufficiently smitten, have a peek at Words Don't Come Easy. And for me, Immortal Songs is a premium example of their vocal prowess. Their comedic antics are side-splitting too. Countless clips of these are easy to find. Btw, you're not alone on that emotion rollercoaster. Those four ladies and their collective larynx have tears flowing here, from places not sad but previously unknown to me. (Oh yeah, Wheein is your 4th). Keep up the good work!

Mamamoo (Solar, Moonbyul, Whee In, and Hwasa) debuted on June 19th, 2014, their company RBW was very small and they had to prove themselves as well as do their own choreography, makeup, etc. They cut their teeth by busking and doing college festivals. They received the Rookies of the year in 2015 and 7 years later they have released 3 albums and 11 EPs. Each one of the girls has released solos, and numerous collabs and OSTs (Whee In - 43, Hwasa - 42, Moonbyul - 28, and Solar - 30). Appeared on many TV shows such as Queendom, Immortal singer, masked singer, and Hee-Yeol's Sketchbook. There is also a Mamamoo youtube channel (recommend watching the MMMTV episodes) and well as each of the girls has their own channel (channel names are Solarsido, Moonbyul2da, 휘인 Whee In, and HWASA).
Before the concert, if you have time, you should watch the first season of Queendom. Both Mamamoo and (G)I-dol were on it along with AOA, Lovelyz, Oh My Girl, and Park Bom(2NE1).
Let's just say it was an epic battle with all of them stepping up their game.

I've always struggled to get into girl groups, the bubblegum pop, youthful, cutesy concepts are really not my style, but mamamoo are something totally different. They have this maturity about them that is so sexy and powerful. Their vocals and stage presence are just phenomenal. The first song i heard from the was HIP and i fell in love immediately. No one has ever made me question my sexuality more than they have tbh lol.
OK listen up, I wasn't gonna comment coz this is an older video but GIRL, when I tell you that u speak to my very soul... this is the only kpop girl group that I'm really into PRECISELY coz it's isn't bubblegum or have a creepily (imo) infantilized concept. They are adult women and they own it in an industry that pushes cutesy all too hard. Not trying to put down anyone, but I'm so happy I've found someone out there that shares my sentiments!

Really really enjoyed your reaction. You had me laughing quite a bit because all us moomoos (their fandom name) can totally relate to how you must've been feeling since we've all gone through the same experience of falling madly for them. After Starry Night, I wasn't sure if you were going to survive Egotistic 🤣 I can totally relate your feelings about kpop girl groups as the whole cutesy bubblegum concept isn't my thing either. While I do casually listen to songs from other kpop groups, Mamamoo is the only kpop group I really stan. Their vocal talent, charisma and stage presence caught my attention. But what captured my heart was their genuine personalities and bond with each other. I love that while they are a powerhouse on stage, they are also super relatable offstage and so down to earth. I read in a recent comment about Mamamoo that given the loads of talent in this group, you would think that you would have a group of individuals with super egos that are fighting for the spotlight. But you get none of that with Mamamoo. Despite how uber talented they each are in their own right, they all work together cohesively, supporting each other as a family to help each other shine. It's just amazing. And as you would've read in other comments, theirs is an underdog story, each rejected in some way before forming as a group, and even then, they were constantly overlooked and underrated, getting flack from the media and the industry for not meeting the Korean beauty standards and the norms one would expect from kpop girl groups.
You'll have seen many recommending the Purple Hawke guide which is a definite must as it's a really good one that introduces each of the members. Ha, relatable reaction to first hearing these women... so many go through similar their first time
They are always changing up the genres and styles of music they do, everything from jazz and bossa nova to hiphop and more, often blending genres together in unexpected ways, but at the same time there's always just a feel to the songs that is uniquely mamamoo (and not just because of their vocals)
Others have pointed out that they're always better live, so definitely worth checking some of their various live performances out. Some of my favorites are the various college festival performances of "you're the best" and "um oh ah yeah" where they keep changing the adlibs to fit the city, venue or audience (you can find compilations of these adlibs, though, after watching the associated mvs). Can't go wrong with any live performance you look into, though
Kudgeon pointed out their official roles but know all four can and do do everything, though we haven't really gotten official rapper solar or wheein in any of their releases, we've heard plenty of the two doing it offstage or behind the scenes (there's also a famous "um oh ah yeah" stage where they swapped parts. Moonbyul sang some of solar's lines, solar and wheein split byul's rap)
Also, be warned... you will never be ready for their dance practices. With two exceptions ("egotistic" and "aya") they're probably like nothing you've seen before
There are two major constants to their music, whatever they release, either as a group or solo artists... they tend to go one way or the other, either all about self-love, self-empowerment and/or female empowerment or full on 'the weird stuff' such as songs about being bored, literal puppy love (about a puppy seen in a window), their height differences or more.
All four are accomplished solo artists and each is so drastically different from the other three that it can be hard to believe they're in a group together, especially with how close they are. They are all strong-willed and very independent so the group could have easly become a catfight (b-side title there) but instead, they synergize so well and rely on each other, managing to become a whole that is more than the (already incredible) individual parts
It was so much fun watching you be totally bowled over by my ult group. Thank you for your reaction. The best guide is Purple Hawk's 2 part. Depending on how you prefer to approach things you may want to watch their Killing Voice MV. They do one verse from many of their title tracks. Just them in front of the micro phone. The other total vocal flex is the Immortal Songs Medley from one of their concerts (I forget if it's end of 2016 or early 2017).
They've done many different concepts and genre's since they debuted in 2014 but they've always been a more mature presentation than most groups. Their main themes are always female empowerment and relationships of many kinds. They also have a number of great humerous songs.
Moonbyul, and Wheein just came out with solo albums and Solar is coming out with one 3/16. As a not straight woman you may especially want to listen to Moonbyul's Shutdown (She flat out said it's an f/f erotic song, we aren't just clutching at straws).
With Egotistic I think they’re speaking to the haters/media/SK beauty standard and K-Pop standards that are negative, restrictive and limiting, that they all overcame by letting their individualities shine 🙌🌞
Honestly, Mamamoo was the first girl group I actually really got into, and is like, in the top 3 of my fav groups. All their songs are sooooo good, I think out of their entire discography there's like 1 or 2 songs I just don't vibe with, and they have a pretty big discography 😊 I think my top Mamamoo songs are I Miss You, 4x4 Ever, Better, Destiny, Sleep In The Car, Travel, Um Oh Ah Yeah, and Decalcomanie, but honestly I can just put the albums on shuffle and let it go (which I do at work a lot, lol)
When I first got into kpop, I was in that same boat as you where I only heard more bubblegum girl groups, which I agree is fine, I actually like listening to bubblegum if I'm in the mood, but Mamamoo blows that style out of the water. I've also been able to find other girl groups that I really, really like. If you want some more non-bubblegum recs, PIXY just debuted last year, but they're already top tier to me, they are SO good and it makes me sad that they're SO underrated. Like, I've been waiting for them to blow up since day 1, they're all so talented, and all so unique, I adore them 🥺then there's (G)-IDLE, who also sound so different and are so, so good, like, omg. I like some of Red Velvet's songs. From what I hear they have "Red" songs, which are more bubblegum, and "Velvet" songs, which are more R&B. The Red songs are good, but the "Velvet" songs are what I'm all about, lol. Loona is also really good, and like experimenting with their songs a lot. Everglow is really EDM, and I don't really like EDM, but they pull it off for me ouo (though I don't really like their latest comeback, personally). Sunmi is a soloist who absolutely destroys me (I love her so much). And then there's Jessi, who's pretty popular so you may have heard her before? Oh, and of course our rockers, Dreamcatcher 💜 I've also been enjoying STAYC, though they may be teetering more on the bubblegum side there's something about their songs that hit a little different, and I'm liking it ^^

I think most have answered your questions, but for the clown vs crown, I think they know the pronunciation of L to R is common in Korea, they kinda made it a pun/word play on the choreography at 26:52 where HwaByulSun put imaginary crown onto Wheein's head when she sang that line. 😁

By the way, MMM has been creating their own choreography all the way till Wind Flower. They started getting professional choreographers from Gogobebe (White Wind era). The choreo you liked, Starry Night, is made by them.
I recommend reacting to Mr Ambiguous and Hello EP in general, which was debut for Mamamoo. They were fantastic from the very start. Also a tip, while reacting to Mamamoo, watch mvs at their official channel, bc there they almost always have subtitles (like only one or two mvs don't have subs at all).

I never related so much to a first time reaction 🤣 Yes, they are EVERYTHING. I recommend for you to check it out their Killing Voice video, the purple hawke guide and as much live performances and fun compilations as you can.

I'm not a fan of the bubblegum pop thing either (also not a fan of the sound of 4th gen groups), but fortunately I discovered amazing groups like Mamamoo. It's always fun to watch new fans going through the Mamamoo journey. Be warned, once you start to know their personalities you're going to fall even more in love with them. 😆
I would like to recommend Dreamcatcher, their concept is mind blowing. They're the complete opposite of what you expect from kpop. And since you like Moonbyul's voice, I think you'll enjoy DC's Dami's voice.

Welcome to the radish field! Your reaction was similar to mine when I stumbled across Mamamoo as I first started listening to kpop 6 years ago. If it wasn't for MMM I probably would have given up on kpop before giving it a fair chance because the songs I heard by girl groups were all bubblegum pop (as you said, there's nothing wrong with it but it's not my taste in music) and the boy groups looked ridiculous to me with their makeup, colored hair and synchronized dancing. Mamamoo intrigued me with their impressive vocals, mature vibe and jazzy retro swing sound on Piano Man and then blew my mind with their radical re-interpretation of Tom Jones' Delilah live on the Immortal Songs 2 tv show.
Rather than give you a MMM history lesson (which would take all day) I'll answer your questions during the songs and add into along the way.
Starry Night:
The members in age order from oldest to youngest with their self-described responsibilities in the group:
Solar (Kim Yongsun): leader, vocals. She had long blonde hair in Starry Night.
Moonbyul (Moon Byulie): rapper, performance. Aka Moonstar because Byul means star.
Wheein (Jung Wheein): vocals, performance. Short blonde hair in Starry Night.
Hwasa (Ahn Hyejin): vocals, rapper.
Performance is their term for dance & staging so Moonbyul & Wheein are basically the dance captains. The best way to get to know the members is by watching Purple Hawke's two part guide called Introducing Mamamoo.
Most of their MVs are produced by Zany Bros, esp the ones shot in the last 4 years such as Starry Night.
You really shouldn't have skipped the teaser for Hwasa's solo song Be Calm. Some of the shots during the song are too gorgeous to miss and her singing is even more gorgeous. Starry Night was the first title track in MMM's epic 2018-19 four album series 4 Season 4 Color. Each album had a theme season & color and was associated with a primary emotion/relationship stage and one of the members, who performed a self-composed solo song on "her" album. Starry Night was the Spring/Yellow song and Hwasa was the featured member. They included the teaser for Be Calm as a way of introducing that element of the 4S4C concept. In case you're wondering, 4 Season 4 Color was a landmark series unprecedented by a kpop girl group and is one of the most complex, ambitious projects in kpop history.
Egotistic:
Solar wasn't originally supposed to actually pole dance in the MV but Solar being Solar she scrambled to get a one hour lesson the day before the MV shoot and liked it so much she kept it up, partly because her doctor recommended it as a way of improving core strength to help her with back problems due to a car accident the previous year. She went on to pole dance in her solo stage during MMM"s 2018 4 Seasons S/S concerts and at their legendary performance for the 2018 MAMA award show. She also uploaded a partner pole dance set to her self-composed solo song Hello, which was on the 3rd 4S4C album. You can find the Hello double pole dance vid on her youtube channel Solarsido.
The ad lib vocals you asked about at the end were by Solar.
Hip:
Acoustic instruments like sax, trumpet and guitar are common in Mamamoo songs. They started their career by doing a series of songs ranging from the swing jazz era to 60's soul, commonly called their Retro Era.
Aya:
Sexy has become normal for Mamamoo, esp Hwasa and Solar. Imo it's not done in a crude way and their sexiness is largely a side effect of their self-confidence and stage presence and the way they stare into your soul through the camera. In other words, it's not an act or an image, it's just part of who they are.
Aya as a savage breakup song is accurate. There's a whole lot going on in the MV which, like many MMM MVs, is more complex than it may appear to be on first view. A full MV analysis would take too long but some of the questions that need answering include: Why the blatantly artificial orientalist set & costume design? What's up with Solar's unibrow and ghost outfit, Hwasa's dominatrix dentist, and Moonbyul's archer, and why doesn't Wheein play an equally outlandish character that has nothing to do with the Arabian Nights theme? At the end why does Solar stab the bowl of her tears with the dagger?
Enjoy your free-fall descent into one of the deepest rabbit holes in kpop and congrats for getting to see them live at the upcoming concert. Mamamoo is even better live than they are on record. Have fun!
Actually, Wheein mentioned she is a genie in AYA, that's why she had a scene with all those lamps and had all those lamps lit up when she held up the candle at 27:30
Also to add on about vocal fry and ad libs, MMM doesn't need sound effects because they can do their own, especially from Solar (Yong Sun/ Yong).

@@hq3727 Thanks, I hadn't heard that! My point was that she's the only one who stays in the Arabian Nights setting. My initial idea was that maybe she's supposed to be MMM's version of Scheherazade, the one who tells all the tall tales in the Arabian Nights and that the other three play roles in stories S didn't get around to (lol), but there's no indication of that as Wheein's role. I saw her as the only one of the three who gets out of her relationship without violence, transforming from the repressed woman symbolized by the veils, hats & dark makeup to someone who magically lights up the world when she liberates herself. Genie is perfect. 😊

Welcome to your new life as a MooMoo. They are the best singers in the best group world wide. Top tier vocalists. They have solo albums, 3 of them came out over the last 2 months. Hwasa in December, Wheein(Blue hair) and MoonByul in December and Solar is in 2 weeks. And individually they are unreal then as a group it there are no words for it. They also have talent writing lyrics and Solar has composed a few songs. I am all in the Solar system for Bias so some things on her. Check out her Solarsido channel which is a few years old now. Unbelievable talent vocally on display with covers, acapellas of AYA and lady gaga song. She also has dance videos, more on that pole as well. If you really want immersion checkout the entire 4 hour 4 Colors 4 Seasons concert. Wheein, Hwasa and Moonbyul also have stuff going on those 3 just started their RUclipss in 2022. Find the crackhead videos as well, dressed as pokemon, puppies and teletubbies and more.
I recommend their Starry Night dance practice. You get the choreo, but you also get Mamamoo personalities (which are the best) 😉

Also Hwasa an Wheein are middle school friends and went to SEUL to acomplish their mutual dream (abd RBW CEO recognized them and created the group with them as center).
Wheein is the seams of the group, she sometimes don't shine as bright as the others but she is doing the hard work to make sure everithing fits together (probably is the most versatile singer of the 4), MooMoos (fandom) say When you Wheein you cannot Wheeout.

At first when I just got into Kpop Mamamoo was the only girl group I liked because I didn't like the cutesy concept and high voices. But I gradually started to enjoy the other stuff too and was like that's actually quite catchy. Now I stan literally everyone.
MAMAMOO is gorgeous and talented on all levels group and solos! I love love love them so much! Everything about them is stunning! Thanks for your reaction! I found them also through music show stages with Got7 since they debuted in the same year 2014. They were on the shows many time competing against each other and it was always amazing how they always congratulated each other on wins etc. I understand what you mean about girl groups that have the bubble gum sound. So many things I would like to say!!! They are insane live, and you won't be disappointed! The most well-known within the fandom is the Dingo killing voice and the immortal songs medley. (However, in the dingo killing voice, moonbyul's tone has been altered to make her seem more nasal than usual, and if you would like to hear better live stages, just search up for any title track performances on yt) Also, I'm jealous you get to see them in person.
My personal recommendation, in your own time, or if you want to make a reaction video, their compilations are hilarious and genuinely brighten my day for the live performances, though... I recommend you go through all of their previous concerts, namely the 4S4C concerts, they have solo stages, and so many iconic moments have come out from them! Thank you for your reaction!

If you are going to kpop.flex I recommend you to also check out dreamcatcher before going. I heard they will also be there and are the opposite of the bubblegum kpop that doesn't suit you that well. Besides that they are off course very talented and (in my opinion) very worth while checking out!
