Novice Using Mercedes Xentry on home laptop

- Having purchased a preloaded hard drive from Aliexpress with Xentry and a load of other Mercedes diagnostic tools, here Xentry is being used to carry our a quick test. This is the first thing the dealer tech does on your car.
The item I purchased was the Top Openport package (the webpage is confusing ... you need to select the option that includes the hard drive. My order included the 360GB HD + Tactrix clone Open Port OBD unit + remote install service).

The package came with a Tactrix clone Open port OBD unit. It was junk and failed the second time I used it. I purchased the a genuine unit from Tactrix in CA, and that has worked perfectly since.

I installed the HD in a Dell laptop. It is full loaded and boots to W10. Make sure you turn off all Windows updates! The seller uses Teamview to register the Xentry software on the laptop. I left the laptop turned on and opened a teamview session, and once I had notified the seller by email that everything was ready, within 4-6 hours they had completed the work.
The HD is preloaded with Xentry (which they setup for you), Vediamo, DTS-Monaco, EPC/WIS. EPC/WIS will work as is. Vediamo and Monaco need to be setup (or if you resourceful, you can do so).

Hello, am I able to use other type of cable to connect or only tactrix cable ? Did you try work with orther cable ?
Very interesting as I am bordering on buying something akin to this. Apart from errors, can you change the cars options using this software ? key options, keyless go, ambient lighting settings etc etc ?
Did you manage to find something that lets you switch on more hidden options?

Yes, with Vediamo you can change the options.
I believe so. When Xentry opens, you can select an advanced menu (developer mode or something similar) that lets you get into the nuts and bolts. I am so inexperienced that I would never go down that path!

I almost got it all together got loaded laptop and just ordered j2534 dongle. What did you mean ignition on?

Xentry Diagnosis request to click on the ignition field (next to the voltage values). There also can be change to off (just a click there will changes between on or off).
Ignition on or off it's diferente from engine on or off when you are doing diagnostic from Xentry Diagnosis program.
You've alot in RUclips showing to use it.
@@paulopalma-condesso8206 As Xentry goes through the communications protocol, one of the first things it tries to detect is if the ignition is on. I'm guessing the Passthrough doesn't send that info. Xentry will flag an error (something like this I think) "Unable to check ignition status". All I do is to then click in the ignition ON box on the top tight of Xentry.

You'll need to keep voltage higher up 12V.
Lower voltages will increase faults between modules.
Powerbank will be necessary and helpful.
I’ve just had this remote installed but when I go to connect to my car ( Mercedes GL), I get the following error:
Communication error (99.58642.0)
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Does Xentry boot and load? Does it then ask you for the communications protocol you are using (with a pull down selection)? Are you then able to select the Jxxxx Openport pass-through device? And if yes, does it connect with the car? If not, you might have the same problem I did: the cloned Tactrix 2.0 is a piece of junk and doesn't work: you need to buy the genuine item from Tactrix (I have used mine for 2+ years and it connects every time).
