B picks the 2nd best #2
A picks 3td best #3
B picks 4th best #4
Assuming A and B are of similar skill level. Our teams look like this.
A, #1, #3
B, #2, #4
As opposed ti to the teams if player 2 picks 2
A picks #1
B picks #2 , #3
A picks #4
Now our teams look like
A, #1, #4
B, #2, #3
Now that looks more fair to me. First pick gets the best snd worst player.
This really doesn't matter if all players are of even skill level, instead of the wide range of skill levels here. But from just a balance perspective it makes alot of sense.

Depending on the game the last person to choose gets to pick 2. That's how it works in risk when you choose your spots rather than random. The last guy gets benefits for being last.
