Last year I had around 20 varieties. Best tasting were beefmaster, bigboy, pink brandywine, purple Cherokee, sweet 100. Large cherry. Yellow pear and jubilee are blah. Hybrids cranked entire grow season. Heirlooms were first to die.

I just got my Green Zebra seeds, very excited! My favorites from last year were Black Prince and Orange Peruche cherry. My season is too short for classic Brandywine, so I'm trying one called Genuwine this year, an heirloom cross that grows faster but supposedly keeps the taste. Fingers crossed! I like to try a few new varieties each year as well.

Both were exquisitely delicious slicers and will be back in my garden next year. I get seedlings from an organic farm in Southern Ontario called Tree and Twig -- run by a woman with incredible knowledge of heirlooms who grows with love.

I like Picus for my tomato sauce, it makes a nice fresh tasting tomato sauce, way yummier than sauce bought at a store! Picus are also great chopped into a Greek salad. So far I like Mountain Merit for a disease resistant slicer, I’m trialing one called Myrtle this year but they seem to lack vigour and are susceptible to BER. I need my tomatoes to have TSWV resistance!

Still learning the ropes with tomatoes in hot and humid Mississippi. I've been completely unsuccessful at getting the first Brandywine. I did try Cherokee Purple last year and the few we had were the best I've ever had. But last year was a bad weather year with temperatures hitting over 95 early in June. This year, with much cooler weather, my Cherokee Purple is loaded up and has some very large ones coming on. Trying Genuwine this year along with Chef's Choice Orange. Already picked two Early Girls this week - not the best tasting tomato, but so much more flavor than is available at the market.

hi; loved the video and your enthusiasm. What zone are you in? I live in NW coastal WA near Canada and many varieties people list as flavorful don't do well - we don't have the summer heat or proper humidity - we get blight instead. I would get maybe two tomatoes all season (no greenhouse) for all that care. Any recommendations on shorter-season or abundantly-fruiting disease-resistant and blight-resistant tomatoes that actually taste like something better than store bought bland tomatoes? My favorite ever tomato is still beefsteak! I am a PA transplant and I have missed the lip-cracking flavor of beefsteak for 45 years! Love the heirlooms, but will try anything for robust flavor. So far I have tried all of these with lackluster taste or results: mortgage lifter, big beef, celebrity, cherokee purple (good, but so late to bear), sungold (good til they split), and a whole lot of Ukranian varieties which are supposed to be good for our cool-summer climate, none of which tasted even close to as good as beefsteak I keep trying! I want them purely for taste and for eating/slicing. thanks!

Never had poor production on brandywine. Last year 2021 was dry here. Great for tomatoes. The brandywine was the winner for production. Most were 1.25lbs+. Big and so tasty. I also get good yields with Kelloggs breakfast. 1 to 2lbs. These are yields two best heirloom slicers I've grown so far.

I grew Genuwine a cross of Brandywine and Genovese it produced loads of tomatos in all temperatures even 100 degrees til about December 1st when the spider mites finished it off. The other one I grew Mr. Stripey this tomato was made for SoCal in mind as it also set massive amounts of LARGE yellow/greenish fruit EVEN IN 100+ degree weather. The Genuwine flavor was good does not hold well due to a lot of folding around stem. The Mr Stripey is still growing and setting tomatos here in January the taste is mild and if you get sores from tomatoes this is the one you want the only downside was it did have some cracking around stem but they hold well.

I really like celebrity. It is so much more reliable than Brandywine lol. I love the Brandywine flavor but sometimes my plants only grow a few tomatoes each. The celebrity plants, on the other hand, seem to grow buckets of almost-as-yummy tomatoes. I think celebrity is an AAS winner? I've always had success growing the AAS winner varieties...and that one was no different.
