Matraca Berg - We've Never Danced

- This scene is from the 1987 film MADE IN HEAVEN starring Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis, now available on DVD from the Warner Archive. The song "We've Never Danced" was written by Neil Young and performed here by the great Matraca Berg, one of the top female songwriters in Country Music history. Her voice is as great as her songwriting, but she has been unable to receive the exposure as a singer that she has as a songwriter.
"We've Never Danced" was also recorded for the film by Martha Davis of The Motels, and that version is played during the end credits. That recording is the only one listed in the film's credits - where it is correctly listed twice. But there is no mention of Matraca Berg performing the song, so many people believe Martha Davis is the singer in the studio scene. Martha Davis' recording was included on the film's soundtrack album, as well as a compilation CD of The Motels. Matraca's recording of the song has never been released!

This is my favorite movie of all time and I love love love this song. I wish more people knew about this amazing movie.
Me tooo!!!
My favorite song ever.....I actually preferred this version tho, and wish they had released her version
Yes ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amen, ditto that , so manymany subtle hints like name of the managers label " Halo" reference to heaven made
Mine to❤
If you watch carefully you will notice the film grain and lighting suddenly change mid scene where Kelly McGillis is walking down the pavement, realises Timothy Hutton is close and turns around. The original film ending was they never found each other but following screen test audiences unhappy with it the studio forced the director Alan Rudolph to change it to a happy ending. The film would have been even more powerful with the original ending. In life we dont all meet our soulmate. I'm 56 and like Timothy Hutton said in the film ' there is someone in my life but I haven't found her yet'. Good luck to everyone looking for that special person.
I saw this movie at the Drive Inn when l was 19, l am now 54, this is the most powerful movie for me ever. It has always been my favourite. Like you said - AmericanObserver -" There is indeed a Strange - l will exchange to Strong - Force in this Movie -"
For me it connects from your Soul to your Heart to Love. There are some who truely feel what this movie is about. I love the Love that this movie represents and a Beautiful Song. 💕
Best romantic movie ever & I still have the VHS Tape 😭😭😭
there is a strange compelling force in this movie that i love. everything fits in so perfectly. great movie....great feeling.
This scene when these people he come into his life to help him record his song is magical, wish something similar like that could happen in areas of my life.

You have to practice and perform and put yourself out there with the interest and care to share your dreams with others of like minded individuals. look at elmo in the story. he was kind of all over the place but found a focus which was music and went all in because he really didnt have much else to distract him.

@@T2Master01 I couldn't agree more. I remember a conversation I had with with someone a few years ago; they told me they '...loved music...' and I told them about the instruments I had learnt and the choirs I had been in. They replied 'I can't be bothered with that, I just love music', To me that isn't love, love requires service. 27 years later... her singing voice haunts me to this day
This movie is magical. ❤️
Yes 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Best movie & song ever written. I believe matraca version is Awsome & she did co-write the song . Her voice gives me chills.
If I am not mistaken Neil young wrote the song.
She wrote a version too but never got it released. It was the studio version . I watched her interview with Tricia Yearwood & she was explaining why they never released hers. The Motels & Neil Young were the only two produced & released. They decided to keep Matraca Bergs for the movie only.
Simply Love it...the song, Matraca's version especially and of course the movie. Have suggested it to friends & family who have lost loved ones, or going through rough times...my heart bursts with joy and tears every time ~..~
I remember this movie from years ago. It gave me hope in some ruff times.
This is a great film.
Это так искренне когда она начинает петь и он смотрит на нее ... Прекрасно
My husband and I wish Matraca's recording of this song would be released. Her voice, phrasing and feeling of the words make us want to listen to it over and over again. Amazing movie, geat song by Neil Young and Matraca Berg--a poetic songstress!!!
I watch this movie at least once a year, its such a beautiful romantic movie, that I believe bombed at the box office, but it was such a different kind of movie, I think people just didn't get it. It also has Debra Winger playing as Emmett, a lot of folks don't realize she had a part in it. I adore this movie, and I wish more people knew about how amazing it was
Who played Emmett was the 'guess hoo-teaser' suggested on the tape/dvd...thoughts of everyone from Sally Fields to unknowns came to mind - Debra Winger was right under our noses! Goood stuff
@@peatmozz5545 I never knew that it was intentional thank you!
This movie needs to be brought back & acted out the same way!!! It would go straight to the top again...
Throughout all the years and movies.... I just couldn't find anything that parallels this ...One of my prized gift to my daughter when she grows up...
That's why when you meet someone new you feel like you've met them before.
I absolutely love this movie and own the DVD. I have always thought that Matraca Berg's powerful voice should have bee the only one recording the song. It's rather frustrating knowing that her beautiful voice was never given the chance.
Kari Tabag where did you get the dvd? Been looking for it for a long time
We Danced but not our last… I lost my Soul Mate 4-8-2021. I will find you again in the next Life Josie❤️🥲
Until then I wish you comfort and loving people who help you cope with your loss by being there for you, being good to you from the heart
I adore this song. Martha's version is great but I think I like Ms. Berg's interpretation better. I hope this gets released someday.
agree they should have released this version of the song instead of the other one!
I love the way she looks at him when she sings.
Yes
would love to find a copy of matraca's version....just love it!
Only gonna find it right here in the movie. Martha Davis of The Motels sings the soundtrack version which is phenomenal.
I love the “Do I stand a chance” in this version.
I love this I believe this happen
Thanks for a great scene. This song never got the released it deserved. Matraca Berg was fantastic. I've been whistling/singing this song since '87.
This film and song is a masterpiece
Matraca, you put the Motels to shame. Please record this song. I, along with everyone else here, think it'd be a smash #1 hit. Hell, just sneak it into an album somewhere. I keep coming back here in hopes someone found it or you recorded it.
I will definitely purchase this hit if it’s been released or produced. I online ordered the film dvd just couple of years ago far from the State to Asia.
@deanski9 ...Funny. Almost the same thing happened to me. I had not seen this movie since 1988. I only saw it once and then forgot about it. I was sitting up and thinking of a movie to get my wife and suddenly I remembered a tidbit from this movie for some reason. I searched the net for hours until I finally remembered the actress was Kelly McGillis, and BAAAAM! I found it title on IMDB. Tonight we watched it. My wife for the 1st time and me the 2nd in 23 years. Not a movie ANYONE should forget.
I bought this movie many moons ago, still watch and listen to the soundtrack 🙌🏽 and to this page for yrs too 🙌🏽
A fantastic version of this song and bass player "Titus" is played by the amazing and creative bassist Patrick O'Hearn, and a sneaky little cameo of Mark Isham who composed the brilliant soundtrack at 1:50 :)
Amo está película, jamás la volví a ver desde que tena como diez años, gracias
love this version of the song
Me too... I think its better then the original record. The atmosphere of this version is different. It reminds of old things...:)
I went to comment section to see if anyone knows if there is an entire version like this for the song. Is way better than the original
Love this song....
Прекрасный фильм!!!
I've seen this movie many time And everytime i cry cause i think soulmate exist...My preferite film ever! I'm looking for it on Dvd but i can't find it!
It's available from Warner Archive. Their DVD is where this clip comes from. www.warnerarchive.com
Virginia D. side note, i recently found my "Annie" i was drifting around for ears and years, just like elmo, and yes, i always felt like iwas running out of time for some reason, she was in a long term relationship, we were at the same events for years and never met until one day, and the moment we met we knew, it is possible!!!
Eddie McKeon that's cute! thanks for your advice...i know you're right. +Grinnygog1975 thanks you too. bye guys have a great life!
i bought it off ebay the other day
😂😂😂 amazon.com
I love this movie and I love Matraca Berg - too bad she was not acknowedged in the movie . This movie is hard to find but it was released on dvd in 2010.
Urodziłam się w 1982 film wybitny muzyka świetna
Wish it was on dvd.
That's so sad Matraca didn't get credited for her vocal performance of this song. She DOES have a great voice!
Y vives con esa sensación de que un día encontraras a esa persona destinada, quizás concebida para ti, un buen día, en donde se cruce un inicio sin fin.
Best movie
The soundtrack album was never released on CD. But if you do find the soundtrack album in another format, you still will not find this recording. It was not included on the album - only the end credits version by Martha Davis was included on the album.
great !!!
J'adoore..Il m'a marqué ce film ..spirituel....
This, the version by the song's author, Matraca Berg, is the one that should be available -Unfortunately, this short snippet is it -Let me know, if anyone knows how to get a hold of a complete Matraca version -Thanks, All -cheers....
The song’s author is Neil Young.
2022~♡-♡~
I love love love this movie. I keep thinking maybe one day ill meet my soulmate too but now at 54 im giving up. Sigh
56 now and still no one loves me
A real good movie
bought it off ebay for $30 love it waiting for my soul mate thought i had him but he never waited for me
I got it on dvd too. Loved it since i was 6 years old 38 now
Hope ya found it
they should have released this version of the song! instead of the other one!
Call me emotional but listening to this version makes me tear up. 1:52 Love the movie, love the music.
2022 still here loving this movie
Roger Ebert felt this movie failed to do what Heaven Can Wait accomplished. Personally I didn't care much for heaven can wait and I think this one has much much more emotional pull.
Girl with the Wings HEAVEN CAN WAIT simpler/MADE IN HEAVEN more real life-like
Heaven Can Wait just never really appealed to me at all. I dunno what it was about it. But this movie..wow..huge emotional impact.
This movie in some weird way makes ok with dieing
It's sad that this version is not recorded in the soundtrack, what a waste
Who would have ever thought that Hunny Bunny would graduate from holding up coffee shops to producing pop music?
@rjpcan58 Hey, I didn't realize that -Thanks for straightening me out -Still wish there was a completed performance of this version...
I like Matraca's version better
I have never found the soundtrack on CD. Does anyone know if its out there somewhere?
Since nobody seems to know the title of the film....Made in Heaven....
Where to watch the movie? or buy a CD? I can't find it anywhere!!! :(
Quiero encontrar la pelicula!!!donde está?
@rjpcan58 Yes, the full details of the song are visible below the video if you click on the arrows to expand.
Martha Davis is an incredible vocalist, but I prefer Berg's version. There's just something about how she performs the vocals. The studio should've just released the soundtrack with her version. They were probably wanting to go with a "bigger" name. Big mistake.
They should of got her to sing this song instead of the motels
@NPost12 Rip this video, or if you find one without talk in it?, and make it a mp3:) Use for ex RUclipsconverter.
@TiempoBaboso When is WHAT going to occur?
Whew...wondered what Matraca was doing with a blonde wig on...it's her voice, dubbed, and Kelly McGillis is the blonde. Isn't Hollywood great?
