Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. I do not know all their needs, but you do, Lord. I offer them to you with confidence that you hear our prayers. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, discerning, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand and revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. May the Holy Spirit give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Please give me the grace to set aside my intellect and my know-it-all attitude and let your Word speak to my heart and my soul. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Thank you and praise you for the gift of perseverance and for nourishing us with your word! Amen.
Fr. Mike and all who reading this. WOW. The Lord knew I needed to hear these words today. Please pray me. I feel myself becoming very bitter and angry. I am being tested in the worst possible way. I do not like feeling this way. I need your guidance. I am praying for all of you.
Prayers offered and hope that you are in a better situation today. This was a powerful study today and gives those suffering the courage to put their faith in God.
Father, may everything that I do this day, whether it be full of joy or pain, whether it be full of love or of grief, I ask that everything I go through today be offered to you just like Jesus offered everything to you. It is in his name we pray. Amen. 9/4/2024
I'm a few days behind since I've been sick, but as I've been reminding others this year, every day is the right day. Thanks be to God that the episodes are here for us whenever we come to them.

During the reading of Proverbs Chapter 17 Verse 3, and Fathers reflection upon it, the lyrics to Neil Young's song "Silver and Gold" came to me: "Workin' hard every day Never notice how the time slips away People come, seasons go We got something that'll never grow old. I don't care if the sun don't shine And the rain keeps pouring down on me and mine 'Cause our kind of love never seems to get old It's better than silver and gold. We are so blessed having Fr. Mike reading. He just glides through all the names and their pronunciations, while reading with emphasis. This makes God’s word come alive for me.! Thank you.
Thank you for all your hard work, Fr. Mike. I’ve been listening to and praying about the readings and your commentary all year, at this point in time I have only one thing to say: Do NOT Apologize For Taking Too Long, we are learning and expanding our understanding of God’s word because of you, so for my two cents I say the more the better! God bless you and this community you have built, I pray for you all the time 🙏
I love you comment but there is people who has time constrains. So as much as I love all the explanations I truly apecite his apology. Because people whi has restriction with time eill continue maiking the effort to come back next day. That bringg said. Thank you Fr Mike and more thank you for your kind apology. God bless you
This is the first time I've ever read through this much of the Bible. I can notice there are a lot of common themes that get reiterated in different chapters and different books. And every time they do the message becomes sweeter to me. I can really feel how these readings are "food" for my soul. I also realize that is the same message in many books written across thousands of years and that such a thing could only be possible because it is the Word of the one true God. Glory to Jesus Christ. Thank you for all that you do Fr. Mike.
Fr. Mike. These explanations on the readings are most helpful. So important not to become bitter when events are testing but allow God to use this time to purity me. You gave lots of helpful advice while explaining the readings, so thanks. Viva Cristo Rey
Thank you and God Bless you Father Mike. It has been so wonderful going through The Holy Bible with you and all the others. I have brought several people to you through this Ascension Bible in a Year program, they all love it. Praying for you and for all who join you here everyday......
Fr. Please pray for me girl and all my boys son's and girls daughters, my father, my husband, all our sons and daughters, my whole family members living and deceased. Fr. Pray for me because I am struggling with temptation. It is easy if you spent your whole life refusing to partake in something than having tasted of evil and drank the wine then to cut yourself off from it. The longer you are away from it the longing can grow stronger and you give in to it. Then you become defeated and the cycle begins again, but it's only a test. What happens when the real trial comes and you forfeit salvation, your very inheritance for a bowl of soup like Esau? Pray for me.
Thank you Fr. Mike. I cannot wait to meet Judith too. What a wonderful God we have. I am so grateful to you Fr. and to all the people who are faithful to make the journey together this far. God bless Fr. Mike and God bless us all.
A great reminder to stay faithful to God and treat challenges as God's tests. *_ Proverbs 27:21 shows that only the best people are tested by God. Like how crucible purifies silver and valuable minerals, furnaces purifies gold, God tests hearts of humans. Fr. Mike is right. We must not get bitter but better and think of each hardship as a test that can be passed by working with God so we come out with a purified soul and more stronger. *_A great example of Rechabites that followed a simple nomadic lifestyle like Abraham that pleased God and yet God tested them by offering them wine and other things when they were forced to live in the city due to Nebuchadnezzer's siege. *_ We must exceed God's expectations and not just be happy by fulfilling the lowest common denominator. Day 248! How time flies… When I started this on Jan 1, I didn’t think I would make it this far. I failed many times before in reading my whole bible. “Thank you, Lord. Thank you for keeping me here. I would not be able to connect the Old Testament to today’s world without your explanation every day. God bless you. Always”.

Two things: Bethuliah is widely considered to be a pseudonym for the Samaritan town of Shechem due to the geography mentioned in the book. It is believed by some Biblical scholars that the people of Judah due to the grudge against the Samaritans didn’t want to ascribe any divine acts to the Samaritan people after the exile so changed the towns name in the book of Judith to distance It from them. It is also widely believed to also be the same as the town of Sychar that featured in the book of John with Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. The second thing is that if you pay attention it specifically says that the people held out for 34 days and then said they would give up if 5 more days pass without help. In other words they were planning on surrendering on the 40th day. So I guess it was a prefigurement of Jesus 40 days in the desert.
Isn’t it so true that scriptures reveal the current events that are going on right now? It is so beautiful there in the Proverbs that putting gold through a furnace or silver through crucible has a connection to how we are tried and purified by God. Also I want to start hearing about Judith which I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

I am very confused as to the reference made to: "Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, son of Habazziniah" in Jeremiah 35:3. Who is this? Is it the weeping prophet Jeremiah's son? I am so confused as Jeremiah was not to be married and as the Lord told him he would have neither a wife or children so who is Jaazaniah and who is the Jeremiah being referred to there in Jeremiah 35:3?
@@jessr1698 Thanks, yes I thought it was probably a different Jeremiah - it was just not very clear and confusing since prophet Jeremiah writes using third person.

Different Jeremiah, kind of like if you multiple friends with the same first name but different last name
@@jessr1698 Thanks, yes I thought it was probably a different Jeremiah - it was just not very clear and confusing since prophet Jeremiah writes using third person.
Not the same any more, but right. Commence
