My take: Outfit #2 is more aesthetically pleasing because of the contrast in colors and structure, and it visually puts the focus on the jacket, particularly the photo on the jacket. The small pops of orange give a bit of visual interest and the weight + amount + color choice of the textures compliment each other. Outfit #1 - I like the concept, but I would have executed it differently. I like the jacket, but it’s a bit busy for the pants- the texture is flat/too light, and the pattern, as well as the greyish undertone takes away from the outfit and it doesn’t contrast nicely with the saturated darker portion on the bottom Because of the texture of the pants, I would have gone for a more of a chunky knit oversized fisherman sweater to play up the contrasting textures and give it an overall more cozy feel, or to simplify it, paired it with a sweatshirt so that the focus is on the corduroy. Or if I wanted to utilize the jacket, I would have leaned more into the lighter tone in the jacket for the monotone color, or gone with textures that are less heavy.
That's how I view it, but mostly because I only want one piece to stand out as opposed to having alot. Shoes can be an exception, but if I'm wearing a sick jacket I'll wear other basic but matching/aesthetic colors to complement it.
Personally I liked outfits two more because it tied all the colours together. Outfit 1 I found it harder to figure out where to look. There wasn’t a clear vocal point imo.
the answer is color saturation, other stuff too, but most importantly saturation, if the black of the second outfit was rly unwashed/grey, the choice would be much harder
Exactly. And if he tied in the jacket color to the other pieces instead of just letting it be its own random piece, it would all flow together well and be aesthetic

After reading the comments and seeing the breadth in people's opinions, I think it comes down to how much the individual thinks. A few other people were saying this and I'm glad I found them because I was starting to think something was weird about my fashion sense. The more a person is used to thinking about things, the more meaning they will by default be looking to find in clothing. That's why the typical "easy to digest" fits might not do it for people who are in the habit of thinking a lot. It doesn't necessarily mean they're smarter or more intelligent, but I do think that those of us who look for meaning in everything do so with clothes as much as anything else, so when an outfit doesn't feel very meaningful or well thought out, our minds work harder than necessary to find something that isn't there.

Fun fact, as a musician that one chord that didn’t sound right can be nice if it is correctly used like if it is put in the right spot harmony wise, probably pretty obvious still cool
I think the one word that best makes aesthetic is cohesive. The colors in outfit 1 were better green tones. The idea of cohesive is deeper than color. We have to include cohesive textures, cuts, colors etc
wideo bra. i haven’t left a frugal aesthetic video with this feeling in a long time (the wrap up at the end too). don’t get me wrong, they’re all entertaining but the old ones were like actually educational and mind opening. it feels like you actually grew through being more authentic and became better at your work. wideo bra.
Even though i personally like 2 i can understand why they choose 1. Its their age. 2 is definitely something that was "aesthetically pleasing" back in mid 2000s. Peaked at around 2008 and slowly went out of style around 2017ish. Its definitely something that a hipster would wear in bushwick around 2010. 1. Is more of a GenZ interpretation of what aesthetically pleasing is for 2022. I definitely see some 90s hip hop inspo with a vibe that's clean and very Korean and Japanese inspired.
I was kinda suprised everyone chose the first one, I thought I was the only one lol. But yeah this is super helpful. I just love how you relate the outfits to songs. It's such a nice way to engage all the senses in order to find something aesthetically pleasing!
Honestly tho, I am *not* your demographic, but I've been binging your videos for the past couple of days and they're giving me so much. I feel inspired and empowered. The analogy to music in this video makes perfect sense. My inner music nerd is very happy right now.
So before I watched the whole video I think aesthetically pleasing outfits are due to a combination of color palette choices, and ability to wear contouring pieces of different sizes. It’s like how we wouldn’t wear a tight fitted shirt with skinny jeans, you’d want contrast to make the outfit pop, but also want the tones of the pieces in a way to sort of balance each other out. That was my first thought. Also, outfit number 1.
I definitely did not think the first one was more aesthetically pleasing, my eye immediately went to option 2. The visual contrast of the black against the green works way better for me than the monochromatic fit. It also creates more defined silhouettes by carving shapes out of the green jacket. I'm also an illustrator and not a fashion guru so what the fuck do I know
The thing about aesthetics is it’s a balance between harmony and discord between the “aesthetically pleasing” and the edgy. Between peace and clashing. It’s like sometimes you want that stank other times you want something sweet or maybe you want to mix the two you got to find your own balance.
Also you got to go bigger not just explaining senses and science. Don’t just explore the nature explore nurture. Why do we consider some harmonies as happy or sad or unified or wistful or angry ect. We have cultural associations and baggage with pitch harmony melody and colors and outfits too. Like explaining why your brain hears what it hears doesn’t explain why you like it or what it means to you. Why are some chords “pleasing” in part due to brain stuff yes but no one believes that is all it is otherwise we would all agree on the “best” of something.
The gap hoodie fits pretty perfect, almost snug actually. I’m 5 11 180 and got a medium and it fits very nice but since it’s cropped a large honestly might have been the move. Still love it, it’s my favorite hoodie
What is the opposite bro easily digest? Prefer alot more graphic and very opposite colors, don't care, won't budge. Prefer something express myself chaotic and abstract. Plus prefer over contrast and under contrast colors screaming and overwhelming you alot like my mental health. Calm smooth and disturbing i prefer.
This makes a lot of sense, actually. When you asked in the beginning of the video what "aesthetically pleasing" is, my first thought was "harmony" so I'd say I was quite on point then. I've always had a passion for art, be it drawing, writing, hobby crafting or fashion. So I know at least a thing or two about creating harmony in various types of art. I also easily get into nerd mode about colors, materials, texture, fit, etc. I really dunno if any of my outfits are aesthetically pleasing to anyone else than me though. But I always have a strict color theme and match pieces from different styles that I like. Because why stick with just one style of fashion? Although I'm not nearly as much into fashion these days as I was when I was younger.
My guess before they share their answers: I'd be more inclined to wear the 2nd. I think it would be more flattering, and I generally gravitate towards it more, but I also can see that the 1st outfit looks more... Intentional. Does that make sense? Like, I'm almost inclined to believe that someone wearing the 1st would have put thought and effort into the outfit. I'd imagine the 1st would get more compliments IRL and more interaction on social media. I'm assuming they'll pick the 1st, but I'll be happily surprised by my personal preferences being validated if they pick the 2nd.
Okay before watching the rest of the vid my guess what makes outfits aesthetically pleasing is: Color matching Pastel/light/washed colors in general And monochromatic outfits
The mixing and mastering of fashion. Also: you can bus and compress groups of clothing pieces to glue them together and achieve a more AESTHETICALLY PLEASING fit. Thank me later.
Am i the only person that confidently said 2? And still think Aesthetically 2 looks better! I don’t think Baggy top on Baggy bottom is aesthetically pleasing! Looks tacky 🤷🏾♂️ Maybe it’s because I’m from the west side of the the country and he all the way on the other side! West coast vs East coast taste!
I honestly think the trend just now is when the colours match on both the lower and upper half of the outfit, or at a push, the shoes and upper body match and the trousers and hat match. Idk why but it just seems to be what is “aesthetic” right now
I feel like being aesthetically pleasing is very subjective because I definitely appreciated the 2nd one a lot more.

Fun fact, as a musician that one chord that didn’t sound right can be nice if it is correctly used like if it is put in the right spot harmony wise, probably pretty obvious still cool
Editing is so good in this video. Feel like it's on a whole different level than before!
ratio
The genius behind that concept is the simplicity in it. And that is not boring !
13:44 as it was changing hertz I was listening to it like, “that almost sounded kinda nice” literally doing the very thing he was explaining haha
I think the one word that best makes aesthetic is cohesive. The colors in outfit 1 were better green tones. The idea of cohesive is deeper than color. We have to include cohesive textures, cuts, colors etc
It's interesting, cause I feel that cohesiveness is also what makes storytelling most aesthetically pleasing to me
0:05 proof you’ve reached a point where you are aesthetic without even trying.
wideo bra. i haven’t left a frugal aesthetic video with this feeling in a long time (the wrap up at the end too). don’t get me wrong, they’re all entertaining but the old ones were like actually educational and mind opening. it feels like you actually grew through being more authentic and became better at your work.
Yep i agree
I was kinda suprised everyone chose the first one, I thought I was the only one lol. But yeah this is super helpful. I just love how you relate the outfits to songs. It's such a nice way to engage all the senses in order to find something aesthetically pleasing!
This is so well made. The thought put in to this is impressive.
0:41 "am I allowed to swear?" "yeah" *doesn't swear*
Unironically one of the best vids you've made
Honestly tho, I am *not* your demographic, but I've been binging your videos for the past couple of days and they're giving me so much.
This is S tier. Every aspect of this video passed the vibe check for sure
I find it funny that he compared clothes to music when my outfit determines usually determines my music choice on the day lol
second outfit option looked much better
wrong
Fr
No
wrong
right
bro i was losing my mind when they said the first one 😂 I prefer the second
this is my fav video ever cause it just makes sense. u can tell Christian def put in work and thought abt this for days. Good job!
I definitely did not think the first one was more aesthetically pleasing, my eye immediately went to option 2. The visual contrast of the black against the green works way better for me than the monochromatic fit. It also creates more defined silhouettes by carving shapes out of the green jacket. I'm also an illustrator and not a fashion guru so what the fuck do I know
1 makes them look "obtuse" imo
@@eggggg00 very. The solid green just makes you look like a blob
tbh I didn't really like either lmao
SAME. I really liked the contrast! I also felt like visually I knew where to look. Unlike the first outfit.
yeah 2nd got more of big medium small shape
I made my first grailed purchase because of you Christian. Thank you for the future debt!
THIS WASS GREATTTTT!!! I loved music my whole life and now I’m just getting into fashion so this video is a great teaching tool
Why are some chords “pleasing” in part due to brain stuff yes but no one believes that is all it is otherwise we would all agree on the “best” of something.
the comparison between music and outfits was unexpected, but so genius and made so much sense
This is such a good video. Thanks, I think I'mma get back into dripping after years since quarantine starts.
I'm guy #2 I thought it looked cleaner.
I'm musician (mainly rock and metal) and I really liked this analogy. It made understanding this much easier.
Video starts, I see your style, and I was like "Yeaa... nah."
Blud straight outta Zoolander movie.
Omg bro ...... this is amazing. This is how I see things, and it's refreshing seeing other people connect with these described concepts
1:00 i thought the 2 nd one looked far better but looking at this type of content for some, i could figure out people will say the 1st one.
Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy. Aesthetically pleasing is something that is pleasing to your sense of aesthetics.
I really like baggy clothes but de 2nd outfit I think is more pleasing the first one have too much green
Second one for me, love the contrast, only thing that is worse is the boring slim fit of the pants
The first one got that “HOMELESS LOOK” imo. 😆
Bruh how is it not the one on the right
Frugal Aesthetic is so fucking good at explaining things like this, this man is genuinely so good at comparisons and examples
The gap hoodie fits pretty perfect, almost snug actually. I’m 5 11 180 and got a medium and it fits very nice but since it’s cropped a large honestly might have been the move. Still love it, it’s my favorite hoodie
Dude you can dress but you're also really smart. That math analogy was awesome. Great vid
The full camo and patterns of that sweater not being cut by a shirt.
I still like the second pic better lmao
I’m starting to feel like this is a music production masterclass instead of an aesthetic video lmao
Something aesthetically pleasing is where everything flows which means everything compliments one another
What is the opposite bro easily digest?
I mostly dress in black so the second photo was more aesthetically pleasing to me lol
My guess before they share their answers:
I'd be more inclined to wear the 2nd.
I'm assuming they'll pick the 1st, but I'll be happily surprised by my personal preferences being validated if they pick the 2nd.
i personally found the 2nd outfit at the start more aesthetically pleasing
as a musician i can say that this video taught me aesthetic science
"muted pastell tones..."
proceeds to wear a neon shirt with a black jacket
I chose the 2nd one because of the contrast
Okay before watching the rest of the vid my guess what makes outfits aesthetically pleasing is:
Color matching
Pastel/light/washed colors in general
And monochromatic outfits
I just wanted to say you did a great job with this video, keep up the great work.
the second one was way more aesthetically pleasing wtf???
its more of like a personal preference thing actually for me i choose the first look but it could be different for others
Yo ima a artist in different mediums, and I just wanna let you know that this video is ahead of it’s time. Beautifully broken down ✨👌🏾🤩
This guy's a mad genius 👏 😂
The mixing and mastering of fashion. Also: you can bus and compress groups of clothing pieces to glue them together and achieve a more AESTHETICALLY PLEASING fit. Thank me later.
Then parallel process them and blend the different fx together.
Sidechain your jacket
OTT
pov you actually picked the second option😖😖😖😖😖
Being a music producer, this is one of my favorite fashion videos I’ve watched in my 5+ years of watching them!
I think what broke the second fit is the skinny pants. If it covered the ankle a little bit more it would be just as fire as the first one
I picked outfit 2, taste differs so dress for yourself and not others.
I vibe with outfit #2..and i ain't changing my mind
I honestly think the trend just now is when the colours match on both the lower and upper half of the outfit, or at a push, the shoes and upper body match and the trousers and hat match. Idk why but it just seems to be what is “aesthetic” right now
Bruh I picked number 2, I was expecting everyone to agree. The other outfit looks goofy.
