  • It’s a basic strengthening exercise that’s pretty boring 👀 and us Physios give it a lot for post injury and post surgical patients.
👉 But they are GOLD in the initial rehab phase. Isometric means the muscle is contracting and you are getting tone, but the JOINT is not moving. This gives the recovering muscle or tendon some exercises and load without mechanical leverage forces to upset it. It’s not just for shoulders you can do for the knee, lower back, neck and all sorts of body parts.
Essential building blockbuster of an exercise and it also works as pain relief. Trust me this works. Completing your isometrics gives you a licence to then do the harder strengthening work with bands and weights when time and your physio allows!
Don’t forget them, get them done and you’ll thank yourself. 👍

Tim, excellent info as ever. I note you mentioned 10 second holds for isometric exercises in your Shoulder impingement, Pain and Shoulder Rehab seminar from way back 2013?. Now you say 30 second holds. Has thinking moved on since 2013?

I'm not injured. I know retired athletes with wrecked bodies. I always using the restance bands and I'm always doing yoga. Too many athletes are stupid with their training and don't focus on the joint health and take a time off when they need to.

Hi Tim, Perfect demo👌👌tks. I have to start isometrics after a week. Not sure if I can hold my hand for 30 seconds in Isometric 😀 I have moderate tendinopathy in supraspinatus tendon of my right shoulder. Nagging pain in upper arm with oedema (signal changes) and it gets worse in the night. Partial articular surface tear of supraspinatous tendon. Suddenly, got a jerk while exercising few months back. Pain & tenderness around the AC joint adds discomfort:( Sleeping on the side also cause pain even while resting my hand on the pillows. Your video provides mental strength 👍✌️ Do u suggest ice packs or hot massages after regular combo of ultrasound & interferential current starting tomorrow. Can this tear with clavicular joint pain & oedema with exercises will ensure complete recovery with healing in 3+ months. Kindly suggest. Thank you.

Ice I find is a good park reliever for shoulder pain. Progressing the strengthening work over time will be key as well. If you need help have a look at my shoulder rehab program: physiorehab.com/rehab-programs-shoulder-injury-surgery-rehab

@@physiorehab I'm diabetic and need to excercise after meals to keep my blood sugar levels down. I find it difficult to move alot so its hard to do normal moving exercises. Was wondering if this will help with that, in your experience?

@@kantabhanderiif you're not dead yet and you can't afford insulin, the best option is keto diet by eating only proteins and fats; exercise doesn't make you healthier if you are diabetic
