I saw these guys in 1964 in Mattydale NY, opening for the Searchers. They wore suits and played Beatle covers that night. The next time I saw them was in 1969 as the Electric Elves in Morrisville NY. I ran into Ronnie at Home Depot in Woodland Hills, CA about a year before he passed. We talked about the great music in the 60’s in upstate NY. He autographed a picture of the Elves in my college yearbook. What memories!
Just wondering if you could remember anything specific he had to say. Any information about his old bands or insight into his personal feeling on music of the 60's would be invaluable to know. Thanks lockwpa!
@@vicctornight We mostly talked in general about the creative music environment in upstate NY during the 60's. He remembered Carmen Licitra & The Vikings (with Fred Winston), The Montereys, Otis & the All Night Workers (became Seatrain), Brian's Idols (recorded "I Feel Free"), Jam Factory (Drummer Joe English later joined Wings), and The Showstoppers (recorded "Nothing to say Today). I was hesitant to approach him, but since my history with his music preceded his famous era, I felt we could have an interesting moment. Unforgettable. He was kind and happy to talk.
Back in the early 80's my parents lived in Liverpool,NY there was a little record store called Desert Shore I stopped in once in a while I bought a couple of albums called history of Syracuse music that has a few of the early Dio bands on it plus a song called Sit down honey from the band Elf, I still have those has a few other bands you mentioned, has a interview on it from Joe English plus a bunch of pictures of various groups that were popular in that area back in the day, I lived in Cleveland Ohio back then I was 19 , now I'm down in Memphis Tennessee I'm 59 now lol and I'm still a Ronnie James Dio freak even seen him live with Sabbath and solo on his last in line tour in Cleveland ✌️🎸R.I.✌️Mr,Padavona
Wow...what cool old footage of Ronnie James Dio!!!! It's amazing to see and hear how Ronnie transformed from when he started in the late 1950s all the way to his heavy metal days. I was absolutely floored when I first heard his really old stuff when I found it online about 11 or 12 years ago. It's a trip how he went from "An Angel Is Missing" (Ronnie Dio & The Red Caps) to "Heaven and Hell" (Black Sabbath) a couple of decades later. RIP Ronnie James Dio (the greatest rock singer who ever walked the planet)
@@michaelcraig9449 Elvis lost his relevancy outside of people obsessed with the late 50s and early 60s that's not to say he wasn't iconic but Dio was doing so much more with his music anyways Elvis was much more concerned with his image and his movie career

Very cool. I wonder what song they were playing? Hair is short, except for Gary. Dick was still in the band. No snow. I'm guessing this was probably either the fall of '65 or spring of '66?
Awesome footage. Can't get enough of this stuff! Where were they playing? Looks like a small hall? This even pre dates The Elves right? Also wondering where the outdoor footage was shot? Cortland?
He'd say: "Heavy metal? You mean like a car or something? Or singing inside my car? What the hell do you mean? Now excuse me while I go smoke another cigarette. Been trying to quit you know because I recently heard it was bad for your singing voice..."
How so very cool...probably 1968 or so ? You can tell RJD is the leader,,,notice how nobody messes with him ? His golden voice never seemed to suffer from smoking. He needs to be in Hall of Fame...NOW 🎙️🎼🎵🎨

Angelflesh BarEnos - This is a medley of old-timey music; first is a version of "Peg O My Heart" and next is "When You're Smiling" and I can't think of the last one...Pretty strange; 1961 wasn't all THAT ancient times. It's cool to see the old styles and instruments.
That's not Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie was a lot shorter than that at only 5'4". In the Prophets, Ronnie played bass. That bass player is of average height compared to the guitarists. Sorry, but this is fake.
This is like the found footage they play of a band of guys playing together in 60s before all of their bloated drowned bodies are found in the river the next day

I'm the only one who cannot hear any music in the video?
After seeing some of the comments, it appears there was some misc music of the era, but it's been removed now.

This is amazing!!! Is there someone alive who can identify this footage?
The secret to the gravelly voice- lots of smoking! Plus, all the guys are pretty short- no longer they changed the name to Electric Elves!
that beer looked like genesee.
hey look the parants of those future dio metal heads in 1965 66 he was older than alot thought .way older than the sabbath guys.
