    Cannot thank you enough for this. I bought your repair kit and I was elated to see you had this video for Infinity speakers. I inherited a nice pair of old ones when we bought our house and the foam had disintegrated. I had to do a lot of extra work to get mine apart and I ended up with a messier final product, but your video was very clear and helpful. Especially appreciate your emphasis on taking your time and not forcing anything. Got both speakers upgraded and they sound great!

    This video is awesome! I have Infinity Studio Monitor 150 speakers that I was devastated when pulled the covers off and a bunch of crumbled up foam fell out. I was thinking "what crappy speakers", then I remembered that bought these in 1988! Wow, they're about 35 years old! I was sad thinking that it was time to toss them then I found your products on Amazon, and these incredible videos that explain very well how to do the job. The woofer that is in the video is identical to mine (except the metal frame in mine is black). The few specifics to these Infinity's are explained perfectly and it made the replacement very easy. I also replace both dust caps because the foam Infinity logo was disintegrating and one has been smashed in for about 30 years.
    Thanks for the great video

      Just FYI, the center part is called the dust cap. It's purpose is just to keep dust out of the driver.
      It doesn't really hurt anything if it's been pushed in. I mean, don't push one in if you can avoid it. But it shouldn't hurt anything.
      If it bothers you, you can use the hose on your vacuum cleaner to GENTLY pull it back out.

    Thanks for the video! I worked on this off-and-on for a year and a half, but now it's done and they sound GREAT!
    The thing that was unclear was the centering of the cone, specifically, what I was looking for in terms of rubbing. One of the cones was perfectly quiet. The other made a distinct noise. I couldn't find anything rubbing so I just ignored it. (I figured it was just the noise a speaker cone makes when it's manually flexed - and this seems to be the case since they sound fine and great now!)
    As a newb the one thing that would have helped me would have been a bigger tube of epoxy. I nearly ran out attaching surround to the frame. I had to use white glue to glue the Trim Ring.

    CAUTION : Don't get alcohol on the face of the treated cone; I did and it instantly gummed up the glossy face of the cone. It did quickly dry, but left a flat looking finish to the area.
    *P.S., Appreciate the speedy delivery. Ordered on the Friday before MLK day and it arrived the following Tuesday.

      A trick if you have greatly hazed up a cone with alcohol: try orange oil on a cloth and wipe the gummy cone, and you may find it gloss it up like it is new, even looking a nice glossy wet (but it won't feel oily). I've done this to other cones, most Peerless, with no issues. Oil is the only thing I've found to "undo" the damage of solvents.

    Thank you for a great instructional video! Just replaced woofer foam ring on our 30 YO Infinity speaker. It was totally shot and I’m pretty sure it would not have gone nearly as well without all your tips! Zeppelin is now cranked up again! Will do other woofer soon as well. Do foam rings on midrange speakers last longer due to less motion / vibration? Thanks again!

    Great instructions. First timer, so I hesitated to do the job myself because I did not have shims or replacement dust caps, and then I saw this video and it gave me the assurance that I can center the voice coil without shims. Thank you!
    I spread the job out over several days, as I was so nervous about wrecking things; plus the scraping seemed endless on the first driver. I bought new knives for the second driver and it worked MUCH better. The original foam on the rear of my drivers did not peel up like yours. It was so degraded that I had to rub it off with my thumb from behind while pinching with my finger from the front. The glue process worked great with the exception of the foam jumping to the front on one driver while I was tugging to spread the glue. I was able to get it tucked back, but not before a bit of adhesive got on the front of the cone. Any tips for cleaning that up?

    • @simplyspeakers

      SM150 woofer uses the 4.5" dust cap part # DC-4.3INF. See our website here:

    Trying to determine what the resistance is of my drivers on my Infinity sm 125 speakers.
    I've already removed the foam ring from both, they were disintegrated. I'm getting 3.3 ohms
    on both, research told me they are supposed to be 8 ohms. Does having the foam rings removed
    affect the readings? I found the original manual and it states compatible with 4 to 8 ohms, regarding impedance.
    Any help would be great.

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  4 года назад +1

      A reading of 3.5 to 5.5 would be acceptable. Based on your measurements, the woofers are fine.

    Hello, How can I tell which set of contacts is voice coil 1 verses voice coil 2 in the infinity Q2 woofer? I replaced the original Watkins drivers about 15 years ago. The replacements had polypropylene cones instead of paper. The terminals were were not marked. The foam failed on the new ones so I need to replace them. Thank you

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  3 года назад +1

      You need a multi meter. One coil is 2 ohms and the other is 4 ohms. You will need to find a schematic online or on the Infinity speaker forums to know which wires from the crossover connect to the woofer terminals. We stock the foam kits. Part # INF-FSK-12Ji

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  2 года назад +1

      Use a lightly dampened cloth to remove the dust. The paper cones are coated so we do not recommend the use of solvents or harsh cleaners.
