I have continually threw my wife and my marriage to the side and acted selfishly. 21 days ago I felt as if I had done too much and thrown my entire life away due to my selfishness. As I listened to my wife pour her heartache out at me as she drove us home after finally confirming what she knew to be true, I opened the car door and went to throw myself out into the freeway. I had it my low. I felt so ashamed, broken and unworthy of everything. I immediately turned to God for refuge, and have sought him everyday since. This message hit me in the right place at the right time. I know God can restore me and make new what is broken. Thank you for speaking through Matt, God bless.
Certainly one of the better sermons I've heard on the topic, and I think he's 80% of the way there. Broadly speaking, there are two categories under which his married audience falls, the sexually flourishing and the sexually atrophied. Assuming that Matt means to appeal more to the latter than the former, there are two subcategories of the sexually atrophied that he would need to address, the sexually-challenged and the sexually-negligent. By "challenged" I mean those whose past sexual trauma or malinformation has stunted their marital sex life, and to this subset he appeals lovingly and expertly by emphasizing the beauty and divine gift of marital sex. To the other subset, however, he makes no direct appeal, and I think sexually atrophied couples may suffer more due to neglect than to emotional or physical handicap. Just my hunch based on how much of a trope post-marriage sexual frustration is in our culture - I mean, how many jokes have we heard about marriage being the end of sex? There's something to that. Albeit with the purest of intentions, I think that Matt not only leaves this topic of atrophy-by-neglect largely uncorrected but even deemphasizes it with a hard pivot from Corinthians to Solomon, from duty to beauty if you will, but the Bible affirms both; hence, there is flourishing to be found in both if pursued with reverence and humility. Unfortunately, as Matt pointed out, we live in a sexually saturated culture, which makes it easy to forget those neglected married people who suffer in silence. Perhaps "suffer" is too strong a word, but there is hardly anything more mind-warping in a Christian marriage than the challenge of loving an otherwise godly, heaven-sent spouse who has little to no value for the divine gift of marital sex. The experience can be demonic. That's why we have 1 Corinthians in the first place.

I get the point of the sermon which is great and true, however, you could’ve conveyed the same exact point and message without using words like horndog, orgasm, and making people laugh when talking about breasts.
Preaching is proclaiming God’s word, and this explicit language and juvenile attitude makes a joke of preaching. I’ve been listening to Matt for 15 years, but between this, and him referencing a “that’s what she said” joke on Easter, I can’t say I will be anymore.
I dont see an issue here, because the Bible was far more explicit
The original language used in the Bible (Hebrew and Greek) used more explicit and "dirtier" words in both Old Testament and New Testament verses. The English translation of the Bible is actually quite mild, the original language used in the Bible heavier and "dirtier" language. "Horndog" and "orgasm" are still mild compared to the actual Greek and Hebrew language used in the Bible
Also, sex is clean, breasts are clean, having a mild laugh about it is not sin. It's sin when it is joked in a way that's derogatory or if it's meant to destroy the "cleanliness" of it. But Matt wasnt joking in such manner
I’ve studied both Greek and Hebrew, where are some examples of this language? I’m genuinely asking this to know becuase I haven’t obviously read the entire Bible in the original languages.
I also don’t disagree that sex itself is clean, I just believe he could’ve given his exact same point without that kind of language that could maybe cause someone to stumble.
