Ho avuto la fortuna di vedere a teatro quest'opera, con gli stessi interpreti, ai primi degli anni cinquanta dello scorso secolo .... Rivederli ora, a distanza di oltre 65 anni, mi incanta e mi commuove. Ringrazio vivamente per questa grande opportunità che mi avete voluto cortesemente concedermi.

This is one of the series of superb RAI productions for Italian television , as ever , with an all star casts , Tito Gobbi was a wonderful singer and an equally great actor , Vito de Taranto was really the embodiment of Dott. Bartolo , Italo Tajo an outstanding and humorous Don Basiglio , Nelly Corradi a beautiful Rosina who sings with such ease , Ferrruccio Tagliavini the finest lyric belcanto tenor of his day . This is a performance we are priviledged to see and hear , to treasure for all time .
It is so rare that one gets a perfectly matched cast !

Assolutamente!!!!! Were can you find a whole cast in world class quality like that nowadays??! And the stage design and costumes are absolutely perfect!!! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO TIMETRAVEL JUST FOR THAT! I WOULD GO OUT EVERY NIGHT TO THE OPERA BETWEEN '46 AND '86! These were the golden foughty years of opera in my opinion. Nowadays we live in epigonic times as far as opera is concerned....

Тито Гобби! Невозможно без восхищения слушать его бесподобный голос. И также невозможно без восторга наблюдать за его игрой. Высокий, статный - как он замечательно двигается по сцене, как элегантно кланяется, как обаятельно улыбается, насмехается над кем-то или просто радуется! Я наслаждаюсь каждым его жестом, каждым шагом, каждым движением. И, конечно, чудесным голосом, потрясающе мощным и красивым. Это счастье - видеть и слышать выступление маэстро Тито Гобби! Конечно, спектакль прекрасно поставлен, замечательный оркестр, отличный хор, все артисты заслуживают самой высокой оценки, например, Итало Тайо. Но синьор Тито Гобби - это необыкновенный талант, гений, чудо!

Fantastic! The whole Cast so perfect! Hard to imagine Gobbi as a young man - before he became Scarpia...Tagliavini's voice so sweet and round and easily produced...But Italo Taio blows me away. I've only known him on recordings and had no idea he was such a wonderful Actor.
The Cuts are unfortunate but necessary - I guess - to fit the time allowed and it keeps the Film moving well.

I saw Tajo in the late 50s when he was touring in the Broadway musical Fanny. At that time I had never heard of him. A friend of mine met him once after a performance and found him quite approachable and friendly.

Janja, you have uploaded a gem - from 1947, I believe. It juxtaposes the colossal personality and acting skills of Gobbi with Tagliavini whose lyric tones rival Gigli's for velvety sweetness. I haven't got as far as the Rosina yet to see if her lip-synching is any better than the above!!

Sono visuto anni in Italia , ed amici miei , educati , Avvocati ha preferito andare al cinema vedere un Spaghetti Western . Sono D'accordo , RAI dovrebbe rimasterizzare questi goielli .

Sono assolutamente d'accordo con quest' opinione!!! Il grande problema è il fatto che questa mancanza di passione nel popolo italiano a approdato a una massiva perdità di qualità anche nel mondo internazionale della lirica. Insomma la maggioranza dei cantanti lirici legendari degli anni 40 - 80 erano italiani e quasi tutti quelli cantanti, che hanno lavorato solamente ai teatri provinciali italiani in questi tempi sarebbero grandi stars anche alla Metropolitan oggi. Che peccato !!!

Il problema essenziale è, quanto guadagna un tenore o una soprano prima di affermarsi? Se un ragazzo ha una bella voce cercherà un talent, non un teatro, poi ci sono in giro tanti cantanti rubate alla lirica, basterebbe proporre qualcosa di meglio da cantare, ed ecco che avremmo bassi, mezzosoprano e tenori di livello.

La situazione per tutti cantanti giovani è diventata difficile e triste quasi dappertutto in Europa ed adesso l' interesse generale nella musica classica è molto piu basso rispetto agli anni 50 o 60. Anche la qualità dei voci ha sofferto molto dal arrivo dei video pop e della rete. A dire il vero, il piu delle volte, l'opera è diventata "popera" oggi, con tutta l'attenzione data al regista, agli affetti visuali ed ai riferimenti moderni e pseudo- politici sul palcoscenico ed alla bellezza fisica invece di quella della voce. La cultura europea si aspira troppo alla cultura degli stati uniti, solo i francesi sembrano di essere un po piu resistente verso di questa inondazione del pressapochismo. E forse per noi amanti dell' opera, questo sviluppo è particolarmente triste nella fattispecie dell' Italia, la madrepatria di belcanto.

I know this must be dubbed, nevertheless the singing is wonderful, especially from Gobbi. One can see what John Steane meant when he wrote that Gobbi's voice was one of the most beautiful he had ever heard.
