2:43 It's nice and good that the father is supportive. But it was not good for him to eavesdrop on what he knew was a private conversation, and it was even cringier for him to write that note. The boy deserved to come out on his own terms.

My mom said something, in a bummed tone, about having to take her pride flags down because pride month is over. I said to her, "you know, you can be proud all year long if you want." And she had this look as if that never even occurred to her. They're still up. She's come leaps and bounds and I'm proud of her.
Edit: Aw 🥺 I didn't know how much joy this would bring to y'all and it gives me the joy! 🌈

People leave 4th of July decorations up for months, why not do the same with pride? Just today, I drove past a store that had an American flag literally the size of the whole store window. You couldn’t see the inside. I’m not sure how they get around it.

A similar thing happened with my parents. My mom is bisexual and had only dated men before she met her wife. Before said wife came out, my mom was always talking about how my “dad” was so much more sensitive and understanding than any guy she’d dated before, and that there was just something about it that was different. A few years later, they both figured it out and they recently got remarried as two women on their 20th anniversary.

I started watching you when I was questioning if I liked girls. I'm a trans lesbian, too, so I can relate to that.
When I came out two years ago, my mom was the first relative I told. She knew for years that I shave my body hair off and had her suspicions about me at least since I was a teenager. When you factor in step-relatives, I told my step-niece before any of the rest knew. "Malika" is gay, too, and we have plenty of common interests so I felt she was safe to tell. But never fear! In my head, the hugging and patting and happy crying through the laughter made it clear all was well, so first one to-come-out wasn't in terrible, pained suspense.

Kind of related to that last one, when Ireland had our vote to amend the constitution for same sex marriage. The text read "Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two person without distinction as to their sex" (ie, gender of the participants of the marriage is not a factor in the legality of the marriage. However the Irish text (as our constitution exists in both langauge) read "Féadfaidh beirt, cibé acu is fir nó mná iad, conradh a dhéanamh i leith pósadh de réir dlí" translated directly meaning "a couple may, whether they are men or women, make a contract of marriage in accordance with law" which had an interpretation (the 'they' implying plural here due to it referencing couple) necessarily both had to be men OR women.
In the same year our government accidentally, for two days, legalised ketamine, ecstasy, crystal meth and magic mushrooms.

I know this may be a bit off topic, but could someone maybe help me with something? I'm wondering what would be a good alternative to aunt/uncle for someone who identifies as nonbinary or goes by they/them pronouns. I don't have any figures like that in my life and I'm making a character who is nonbinary and has a nephew who is very fond of them. If anyone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it!
Edit: Thank you all for your help!
Another edit: The reason why I don't want to always just use their name is because it's a one-syllable name. I don't know any nicknames that could come from it, but I'll try and come up with some of those too. Also ankle, auncle, and zizi are all really cute. Once again, thank you all for your help!

Hmm… I use they/it/he and I thought abt this type of stuff. Generally I know a lot of people who have thought of “nibling” for nephews/nieces and just siblings who use they/them pronouns (my uncle uses that for me a lot I said they could call me nephew but they don’t want too-) but I think generally, the person who has the nephew would be able too decide if they want to be uncle or auntie? Sometimes I think about when I become an uncle- I’d want to be called uncle because that’s my preference. But it’s very hard to decide- some people like too merge them together but hmm… when you look up on google you’ll see “pibling” standing for parents sibling which I personally think sounds… interesting… but yeah I think most the time I see non-binaries who just identify as “non-binary aunt” or “non-binary uncle” and uh- yeah hope that helps ?? Basically just make it clear that they have decided they are okay too be called aunt or uncle even though they are non-binary and it should be fine I guess ^^

I go to a catholic school and some people I truly believed in turned out homophobic and transphobic. I can’t really trust anyone. I also think one of my less-behaved classmates is in the closet and hiding under homophobia and jokes. His friend I’m pretty sure he had a crush on moved to California at the end of last year. I’m hoping that he and any other closeted classmates figure out they’re not alone there. I wouldn’t mind knowing that myself.

I went to the store with them today and I literally had to ignore all instructions I'd ever gotten from my parents about not walking away from them, so I didn't start crying randomly in front of them. I had to avoid the "Why are you crying?" question, while they were talking about transphobic shite. They were talking about a transphobic man who got into a fight with a trans woman, and now the transphobic man's store is getting so much positive attention and so many customers because he's transphobic and he fought with a trans woman. My parents are so proud of that man and the fact that his sales are skyrocketing. 😿

My advice: Protect Yourself: Say Nothing. Bide your time until you are financially independent from them. Use private browser tabs. Erase your viewing history from all media. Protect Yourself: Use DuckDuckGo or another search engine that doesn't track you. Use the web browser interface to all your social media and not the apps, so that the algorithms don't feed you suggestions that anyone with your devices can find.
Protect Yourself: Lie every and any time they ask you about LGBT+ stuff.
Meanwhile, plan for your future when you can be your true self. And mourn. Mourn that you don't have a family that will ever love and accept you. Mourn that your biological progenitors aren't your parents, they're your keepers. If it helps, harden your heart. If it helps, hate them for every bigoted thing they say.
And when, in 4, or 8, or 10 years when you finally are free of them, build your Logical Family to replace your poisonous biological family. Then, come out to them by telling them that they never loved you, then remind them of every homophobic and transphobic thing they've done. Do it in a letter so you can't be interrupted. Then Protect Yourself: cut off all communication. And then, at long last, build your new life, your true life.

@@not_the_only_cannoli_ Fortunately, no, because I didn't come out until (a) I was 23; and (b) 8 months after I was hospitalized for psychosis caused by a major depressive episode. I met my now-husband shortly thereafter. Everyone was just relieved that I was alive, and overjoyed that I was actually happy at long last.
But in my 52 years of life, I've known more than a few gay men, lesbians, and transwomen who had to cut ties with their biological family.
Also: not one did my depressive mood disorder complicate my coming out to myself (because it shuts off a person's libido), during major episodes, I'd start to suffer from paranoia. That carved a groove into my mind all those years before I finally got treatment, so I've remained a tad paranoid in regards to some things, especially security and privacy.
Again: Protect Yourself. Plan for the Future. Bide Your Time.

I told my friend that I was dating a Trans Guy. Friend asked me which way he was transitioning....I repeated that he was a Trans Guy. After about a minute, it clicked. We had a good laugh about it.
The Trans Guy I'm referring to broke up with me. It wasn't anything bad. We both realized we were too busy for each other, both of us not in love anymore. We're friends tho. It was a wholesome breakup.

The best part of this video? When Jamie squinches up his face every time he says *Wholesome*. Awwwwww!

1:37 I'm bi and mtf trans, and my mum is mostly supportive, but one time we were talking about how many bi people I knew, and, KNOWING THAT I AND SOME OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS ARE BI, said "I feel like kids that are bi are just doing it as a bit of transition phase to try things out, and will eventually end up being gay or straight".

I came out to my mom a few years ago, and she was... Technically accepting, she just said oh, I don't care, and then moved on, idk it just kinda.. didn't feel good. I also tried to come out as trans, even though now I would say I'm not what I identified as then, she just said that it was a phase, and that I didn't want to mutilate my body or that I would never truly become that gender and it was just real bad.
I know I have it better off than some people but you gotta recognize that even the act of being dismissive can hurt, it's like they don't believe you are who you are.
I've been hurt, but I wish the best upon the rest of you for your journeys, I wouldn't wish what I experienced upon my worst enemy. Stay safe out there 💖

I LOVE these videos Jammie, I really need to see positive things for sure now and then, even though a good chuckle from the "other side of the internet" is quite hilarious at times, but wholesomeness is tugging the heartstrings much deeper and gives the warm fuzzies better! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
1:42 I have a friend and her wife come out in the same way! She was FTM and wife was lesbian, and they're both so happy now it's wonderful to see in real life as well as on here 😃💖💯

As a licensed massage therapist, I will just say that it isn’t really that unusual for sisters to get a couple’s massage together, especially if they’re doing so as part of a “girls day out” and they want to hang out and talk together. It’s also common for parents and children to get couples massages. Usually it’s either because the parent doesn’t speak English and needs a translator, or the child is a minor and the standard policy is that a child under 16 needs to have a parent in the room with them.

I recently came out to my parents, but it wasn't the way I wanted to do it. They reacted really well and are open to educating themselves. Although it wasn't the way I wanted it, I'm glad they accept me. I was crying so much, because I thought they would hate me. I was pleasantly surprised. I hope all of you are well. Know you are loved, valid, and appreciated. ❤
